tattooer, Given the time of year, it will take a while for the gang to see your post. We're all spending time outside getting stuff done. I am fairly new to snus myself, so my advice will be very basic. Taste varies, and like e-juice, what I like might be awful to you. Most here have a common, basic list of staple snus. Thunder, General mint, and Odens seems to be popular. I use Fellini mini mints (mild mint with a hint of chocolate), General mini mint (mint), and Thunder mini mints (mint with kick). Look for the Beginner's Guide to Snus in this part of the forum. It lists most of them and what they are.

There has been mention of a couple of low end "do not buy" brands here as well. Search the threads until the experts come back in.

Best of luck, and welcome to this side of the tracks!

Actually that was jakobsens iced fruit. I could taste almost nothing but strong salt for an hour. Most people here seem to start with the general mini mints and thunder frost minis. The thunder are 8mg and the general are 4mg. The regular portions are mostly 8mg with the exception of the strong and extra strong. There you can get 11,12,16, and I think 18mg. There might be others too. From there it is a matter of personal taste. I would suggest maybe starting with the two already mentioned and maybe a can of something stronger for the bad cravings if you have any. Other than that most of the ones available have been tried by someone here and if you have questions on a particular one then we are glad to give our opinions.

I would recommend getting at least some straight tobacco unflavored snus, and at least one can of the bergamot type. These are some of my favorites.... well the wintergreen and mint are not high on the list anymore but I liked them a lot when I first started

    Ettan
    Roda lacktet
    Grovsnus
    Skruf original white
    Lab 01
    Tre Ankare
    General Wintergreen
    General Mint
    Odens Kenal (cinnamon)
LD black (licorice- but will be gone in a few weeks when the FDA rulings and PACT act kicks in)

Tattooer - Welcome to the smokeless subforum. When we're not off on summer vacation, you'll usually find this to be a very lively group. As others have said, taste is subjective, but you can't go too wrong with some of the "old standards."

My "stash" is pretty heavily dominated by the following, in my order of preference:
    - General Mint (White Portion)
    - General Wintergreen (White Portion)
    - Grovsnus (Portion)
    - Ettan (Portion)

I started off casting a pretty wide net with my first few orders, but those are sort of the ones I've settled in with for regular use. Others I have enjoyed and usually have a can or two of are:

    - Lab 01
    - Lab 02
    - Thunder Mini Mint
    - Roda Lacket

I'm not personally a fan of the bergamot flavors, but do recommend you try them because of taste being so subjective. They wouldn't be on the market if someone, somewhere didn't like them! :)

    Happy snussing!

tat, these are all good suggestions and they're also widely popular. The General Mint has been a hit with everyone but me, too sweet for my buds, but that's high on the recommendation list. You also might try the Thunder Frosted Mini's (spearmint flavored). I think most folks start out on a good note with the flavored snus. Also, Stubby recommends trying a tobacco flavor as well as a bergamot. If you don't get a tobacco flavor to start with you'll kick yourself. Ettan and Lab are really nice and mild flavors of tobacco. As far as a bergamot, I think General White sums it up pretty well without being too strong. The best thing is to get a few different ones to get a feel for what's out there, then post your impressions. That'll be the easiest way for folks to help steer you in the right direction. And it's lots of fun, too :).

When I first started snusing I placed two or three orders with no two cans the same so I could try different ones that sounded good to me. The only can I ever threw away was the iced fruit. I tried four or five portions but every time it just tasted like a salt lick. If you get some you don't like then you could always make a trade with someone here.

I just wanted to add that if you go to general's website...depending on your state you can order a free sampler pack...they include 3 portions each of the white portion, wintergreen (white portion), mint, and dry mini mint..so you can give those a try and it don't cost anything

I agree with Drozd. Get a sample pack for a buck, see if you prefer flavored or straight tobacco and take it from there. My advice to the beginners is always the same: you can't go wrong with a selection of General Mini Mint, Fellini anything, Thunder Frost mini (the 8 mg per portion, not the Extra strong mini, it packs 16 mg per portion, don't go there yet). Try mints, wintergreens, eucalyptus, they are all nice. If you like tobacco, Lab 1 is mild and not too salty. You may also try Discreet snus, sweet and candylike, peach and strawberry are nice. That's American brand made "the Swedish way," that is, pasteurized. The nice thing about snus is that it's inexpensive and even if you don't love the taste, it gets the job done.

    Good luck and welcome.

I ordered the samples........, I feel forced to order the Snus bucket, simply for the great deal.
I have used several of the American Snuff
    Skoal,Copenhagen,timber wolf....etc.
I am sure the Snus is better, I just don't wanna spend a ton before I know what I enjoy.
Normally I prefer a tobacco flavor, this forces me to go with the snus bucket.
I am curious if that sounds like a good idea, because without these WTA's I honestly am thinking as clearly as before quitting.....Russell

That sounds like a reasonable solution to me tattooer. After all if you get tired of the plain tobacco taste then you can still flavor it yourself. Did you receive the sampler yet?
not yet on the sample package, I sure wish I have.......
so how much longer before the PACT act takes its sting on us all:evil:??........russell

The snus bucket is a bucket of dry unflavored snus. You can get it at getsnus and northerner and I am not sure where else. You can either use them as regular tobacco portions or you can flavor them yourself. They sell flavorings for them also or you can use your own.
