newbie, with a bit of dissapointment

Hello, I bought my first e-cig about two weeks ago. I was really enthusiastic to try it as from all hte reviews and what I have read it sounded like a good option, I have been a smoker for close to five years now,I really enjoy smoking. So I bought this device and it seemed okay, bought the liquids with nicotine, but i still seem to crave regular cigarettes so hard, the ecig is working properly and everything, theres a lot of smoke, which is good, theres no smell whcih really bothered me with smoking. But it just doesnt feel the same. Maybe i would need to buy some liquid with cigarette taste? Anyone else with a hard start?
Like at this point it is not as enjoyable for me so ive basically switched back to good old cigarettes again. Any advice would be appriciated, maybe I am just not as patient as one would have to be?
tl;dr: Got an e-cig but it doesnt compare to traditional cigs, any ways to make it better?

The mg of nicotine i think was 18mg (i might be wrong, I dont know where i put the package right now haha) and I actually bought some pure nicotine boost liquid because it didnt seem to work at all at first, I dont even smoke that much really, and I added that and smoked that for a bit and it made me light headed haha so I dont think that that is the problem.

and HOW you are vaping makes a huge difference. I tell everyone that smokes that i let try my stuff "it isn't like smoking...don't take a drag like a cigarette"
i think there are a few threads and videos floating around.

I think I smokeit correclty? Like a cigar yeah? I read about it online I kept inhaling first time and it made my lungs and throat uncomfortable.

Hi, I sort of agree with you. I have just started vaping to. I got my starter kit last Friday and have been trying 3 different flavour liquids (all 18mg). I'm still smoking menthol cigarettes in-between vaping. It doesn't feel like smoking... I don't get the same buzz that I get from a cigarette. I think the only similarity vaping has to smoking is that I stick something in my mouth, suck it and blow out stuff that "looks like smoke". That's pretty much where the similarity ends.

In saying that, I have definitely not smoked anywhere near the same number of cigs per day since Friday. But because I feel like this is nothing like smoking, I'd probably be better off just sticking a patch on and forgetting about it... be a lot cheaper too!

Actually, I think I miss the smell of smoking. I'm pretty sure that the smell is part of the overall experience of smoking and as such, I'm not getting that with vaping.

Lots of people start vaping thinking that they can just switch to this, where they can still "smoke" and not have to go through any withdrawals of actually getting off real cigs...that's not the case. A real Cig has 4,000 Chemicals, and I'm pretty sure that one is addicted to more than just the Nic that is in it...so yes, you're still getting the Nicotine, but you're going to have to go through most of the same withdrawals as you would if you were to quit "cold turkey" Or at least both my husband and myself did. I've quit smoking before..I know/knew what its like to quit...and we went through just about the same thing once we started Vaping..just not as intense as quitting "cold turkey"

A lot of people who were 1+PAD smokers, usually start out at 24mg of Nic..really helpful when the going gets tough.

You have to really want to get off Cigs for this to work for you tough...it's not an easy process at all..but still easier than doing it on your own.

let me also say though..that I have seen people come on here and switch to Vaping and have no problems what so ever with withdrawals. You just have to find the right equipment and stick with it.

Good luck!

I keep seeing people tell Noobs to not Vape like you would smoking a real Cig..and I've never gotten why they say that. I Vape the same way I smoke.

Here's what hottierockstar was meaning...when you got go take a draw off your PV..take a drag in your mouth, let it sit there for a second, then inhale..don't inhale straight to your lungs.

I have never known any smoker to inhale straight to their lungs..well, when they smoke something else, but not Cigs.

Most people I know that have made the switch need to start with tobacco e-juice similar to the type of cigs they smoke. Also depending on how much you smoke you may need higher mg e-juice. If you smoke a pack a day of "light cigs" would start with 16mg if stronger cigs or more then a pack go up to 18/24/32/36 etc. until you find the level that is right for you.

True, it's not the same as smoking a cigarette -- for starters, unless one is using a cig-a-like, the e-cig/vaporizer can't be held like a cigarette (heavier, different shape, etc.) ... and can't be smoked like a cigarette (e-cigs/vaporizers require slightly different technique). Seems to me it's helpful to not expect it to be like a cigarette. Having said that, e-cigs/vaporizers do provide a very similar hand-to-mouth activity, something to do with the hands, the oral gratification thing, and blowing out "smoke" -- all these are satisfyingly familiar with respect to those habits.

In my opinion, the real PLUS value of vaping (beyond the health benefits of quitting cigarettes), is the absolute pleasure of finding e-juices that taste so good that a cigarette is left in the dust by comparison. I vape a strong menthol, and although I smoked menthol cigarettes for about 40 years, I absolutely never smoked a cigarette that came anywhere near providing the great menthol taste that I get from my vape. I was perhaps lucky that this menthol was the first e-juice I tried, and with one draw of that on my vaporizer, the cigarettes were gone forever because no cigarette could ever match this flavor.

I'd predict that for most people, once they find an e-juice flavor they really like or really love, their response will be the same. Don't think of it as trying to replicate perfectly the flavor of a cigarette (although people do find e-juices that satisfy that interest), think of it as replacing cigarettes with something better -- go to a B&M store where you can sample different e-juices and find a couple you go for.

The hardest part sbout switching id
S the sctual giving up on cigd. I dmoked for 14 yeard and now bern vaping for avyear snd I just got over ALL the "side effects" of smokibg. Iy wont be an instant transfer from cigs to vape. And it will take sone time to fine tune your resistance and the juice that works for you. Its not as simple as buying a cheap kit and grabbing juice that sounds good in orint. The key to vaping is finding that device that really works, finding the right resistance that works for you and I think most importantly finding a good juice. There are hubdreds of juices and nit all are created equal. Fibd yoirself a good vendor you like. I love DnD vapors berries and cream. It is my absokuye favorite and vape over 100ml a month of it. But thats me abd it doesnt mean youll like it. Also the nic level is important. You will see that unlike cigs that nicotine hits hard and fast. It delivers very quickly. Try chain vaping for a few minutes. Do some long controlled pulls and lung hit it. Youll feel the buzz so quick its almost scary.

Many people quit vaping cause they dont understand how to vape and what to expect. They dont know how its supposed to feel. The point is you have to stick with it and just keep trying new combinations of device and juice.

You need a good battery. Id suggest a provari because its a staple in many peoples arsenal. And its just a durable and easy to use device. And because iys VV you can easily fine tune your vaping style I.e. resistance and voltage. And get a good tank system. The vivi nova is another staple althoigh bottom coik tanks seem to becoming more prevelant. Id siggest the kanger pro tank. Its nice looking, very easy to use and it has a glass tank so youll get a clean flavor.

And if you really want to quit smoking you have to quit completely. Yoir not giving the vape a chance to win you over if you keep going back.

Sorry for the mispellings.

And good luck. Switching has saved my life and will continue to do so.

And dobt get bogged down by all the fancy mods like caravellas. Id love to own one but to me they are more of a bragging right and a piece of art. Like a car collector tgat has that cherry Shelby GT. In theory most devices will do the same thing. Its just a battery cased in a fancy and flashy tube. Although beautiful and prestigious, a 300 dokkar mod will "basically" do the same as an 100 dollar mod from lets say puresmoker.com.

Everyone starts somewhere. We were all beginning vapers once and eventually youll get the hang of it and be drooling like the rest of us do iver velas and jugs.

Go higher on the nic. Your body absorbs nicotine far less efficiently when you are vaping than when you are smoking, so you need more than what was in your cigarettes. As a previous poster mentioned, you might be one of those people that nicotine alone won't do it for you. Try higher nic first though, we can talk about other options later if that doesn't work. It took 24mg to appease my cravings on the front end.

I had the same experience at first. I just kept craving a real cig. I could go about 4 hours and then all I could think about was a real cig. It was driving me crazy, I thought I was doing something wrong.

But I asked questions and kept trying, and now I'm doing fine. I had to up my nic to 18mg, and I learned how to vape properly too. And I'll be honest, I had to accept that it wasn't going to be *exactly* like a real cig- and that that was going to have to be good enough...

But I've been smoke-free for over a week now, and I'm doing fine :) I'm still on a quest for the sweet spot- have some new gadgets and juice coming in the mail soon- but for now this works just fine.

Keep at it :)
