Hi all

Im left a bit confused after having bought my third mod in as many months
Started with a cheap vaporfi cigaretter type jobby but not really doing the trick for cigarette replacement (desperate to get off the cigs!!) Then bought a vaporfi rocket 3...shat itself after a month.
I now have a fuchai 213 which was recommended to me by a local supplier...seems much better all around but my settings/nic mixture is all guesswork at this stage and reading up on it has just been info overload!
Hoping someone could help with a couple points....?

Being a 20 p day smoker - what would be an ideal strength to mix my nic juice at?

What is the whole pg vs vg about and how does it effect the vape?

What wattage if any would be ideal to best deliver nicotine?

Some of these questions/answers may be in other forums but seriously need idiot proof advice...
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Since you already have a mod, I'd suggest grabbing the Aspire Nautilus X and some 1.8 Ohm coils. I would go 50%VG/50%PG and 18 mgs nic to start. You'll want to stay between 12 and 14 Watts. Puff on it just like you'd do with a smoke. I would grab a tobacco flavor and maybe a couple of other flavors that sound good to you. Coffee flavors work great. Chocolate flavors too. Maybe a strong fruit that you enjoy, like cherry or a citrus.

Oh:

VG makes clouds and gives you a 'lung hit', you'll feel it in your lungs and it will feel heavy. Like breathing in high humidity
PG brings flavor and gives you 'throat hit' that makes your throat scratchy and feels like you are actually breathing in smoke
Nic varies depending on how much you need and also gives 'throat hit', and you will definitely taste it if you go high nic

The higher your Wattage, the lower you want your nic level to be. Because the higher the Wattage the faster the nic is delivered to you-your'e going through more juice at once. So if you end up going with a more powerful vape then decrease your nic significantly.

I'll just list how i started : bought a kit with a nautilus tank (5ml) mod dosen't matter as long as it does variable wattage, had some 50/50vg/pg liquid and went the whole month vaping through cravings. Used the tank on it's 2nd to 3rd hole for airflow control to smoke it doing mtl (mouth to lung) which is pretty much like smoking a cigarette.

Now using an aspire mod with removable battery on temperature control on a Freemax Fat scylla sv with a stainless steel coil rated at .25 0hm with 80/20 vg/pg mix at 445F. This is called Sub 0hm vaping as the coil has a resistance of less than 0 0hm,my nautilus has 1.8 0hm coils for mtl but going sub is more suited towards dtl (direct to lung) which is described as simply breathing normal through your mouth. For better taste like listo said more pg for better taste and that throat hit you get from cigs. I went with 50/50 at first now using 60vg instead since i use a .7 coil on my nautilus for now.

I may have repeated things that listo said above but i'm too lazy to read and speaking about what i used and how.

Hi Yoey & welcome
You've only mentioned what mod you have but have failed to talk about your atomizer. A mod is just a fancy battery holder with some protection circuits and the ability to modify the power output. The real magic takes place in the atty (atomizer).

If you already have one then tell us what it is. If you haven't yet got one then folks can make suggestions but you have to decide how you'd like to vape. What you've had in those vaporfi ( terrible vendor ) products has been MTL (mouth to lung) devices. They tend to have a very restricted air flow, use lower power, produce less vapor, and you use them like a cigarette, using you mouth to take a puff and then inhaling the vapor into your lungs. Listopencil is recommending a MTL atty.

DTL (direct to lung) on the other hand has you inhaling through the vape directly into your lungs so they tend to have much freer air flow, produce much larger clouds, and use more juice. Which is best for taste is up for debate. I am a DTL vaper, it just feels natural to me and the MTL devices feel like they are too hard to draw air through (OK I'll admit it I like the big clouds).

VG produces bigger clouds and a very smooth vape with little or no hit to it at all. PG gives you a throat hit and promotes taste as opposed to VG which mutes it somewhat. You can get your juice with VG to PG ratios in 50/50, 70/30, 80/20, and max VG. The latter means the juice has the PG which came in the flavor concentrates but no more was added so it can mean anything from 10% to 20% PG. You just have to sample different juices and see what you like.

Your power setting is primarily going to depend on the resistance of your coil. The higher the resistance the lower the wattage. The overriding consideration is your preference, what you like. Vaping at a low setting produces less vapor, more taste, and a wetter vape. Higher power gives you the opposite. Normally you want to start at a very low setting and work upwards until you find the vape is getting too dry and tasteless and then work back down to what you like best.

Ok so atomizer is an aspire clieto 120
0.16 ?? 100 - 120w
As far as juice goes...bought 0 nic juice from local supplier and have ordered nic juice online... he suggested "100mg nic 100% pg base". Now a bit unsure if this suitable?

Oh, OK. That's more of a DTL tank. Well, actually, it is a DTL tank. I am only seeing 0.16 Ohm atomizers for those and they are rated at 100-120 Watts. I started vaping at around 10-ish Watts and it was all MTL. I eventually worked my way up to DTL vaping 100 Watts and beyond. Problem is, DTL vaping all the time makes me crave cigs like crazy. I miss that feel of smoking. Something for you to keep in mind. Going for high Wattage is fun. It's fun to blow clouds and the flavor can be crazy good. But if you do find yourself with savage cig cravings I'd recommend getting a MTL tank.

Vaporfi is an abomination.

The Fuchai 213 is my favourite mod (along with the Smoant Battlestar for TC).

2 ends of the spectrum in one post...

- - -

Does the Fuchai do temperature control?... mine certainly wasn't working last time I tried it.

My advice.

1. Use Kanthal coils (0.3 - 1.0ohm) and use the Fuchai in VW mode.
2. If you are going to DTL with a subohm tank.... maybe try 6mg at 20-30 watts.
3. If you want a classic MTL, maybe try 12mg at 10-16 watts.

18mg or 24mg is really for old tech devices, or low power ones (nothing wrong with those if you like them)

6mg or 12mg is quite a difference - some thought needs to go into that unless you definitely go DTL or MTL.

1.5mg or 3mg is for higher power sub-ohm vaping... probably upwards from 40/50 watts.

Yeah, the Fuchai 213 does TC:
  • Temperature Control: Nickel 200 (Ni200), Titanium (Ti), Stainless Steel 304, 316, 317 (SS), TCR, TFR Modes
  • Now Utilizes Celsius Based TCR Calculation
  • Temperature Range: 100 - 300°C / 200-570°F
Sigelei Fuchai 213W Dual 18650 Temperature Control Mod

I have the 200W+ and the 213 was the next model-it handles TC better than mine does. I just started doing TC with mine. Working great so far. I think Yoey1979 just needs to figure out what kind of vaping (s)he wants to do. Low Watt cig mimic, medium Watt flavor chaser, high Watt cloud chaser, or Temp Control. From the OP Yoey1979 is going for something to replace smokes and already has a cloud chaser tank.

I did find a coil. This one: Aspire Cleito SS316L Temp Control Coil. The back story and details on it are sketchy at best. But I am reading that it will work in the 213 because it's SS and because the 213 lets you set your own TCR. I still haven't seen any official acknowledgement that the coil will work for TC in the 213 though. If it does then that may be the vape you are looking for. Fiddle with the temp until you get the experience you want. You might try a restricted airflow drip tip like I did. It makes you really feel the vaper coming in rather than having this big, breathy cloud to chortle down in your lungs quickly. So, if that does work, you can decide between:

MTL off of a TC coil using a restrictive drip tip (I've done it, it works) cig mimick
MTL off of a completely different tank (I've done that , and it works) cig mimick

MTL at medium Wattage with quick breaths and the fire button only held down for part of the puff in (doable but tricky, kind of annoying) flavor chaser
DTL at medium Wattage with a full intake and exhale ( takes some getting used to but the flavor is worth putting up with the clouds) flavor chaser

DTL at high Wattage with a full intake and exhale (will take more getting used too, clouds bro clouds) cloud chaser
DTL at TC with a softer vape (may allow you to get used to DTL easier, can do MTL hits with quick breaths ) cloud chaser/flavor chaser

It is suitable though your preferences may change what you next order.

The vendor and you have obviously agreed that you will be mixing your juice. This isn't quite DIY but you should start trying to use a calculator for it. It will introduce you to mixing. My preference is E Liquid Recipes and if you go to that website click on Create Recipe. If you are going to save it (and you may have to sign up to save it) you should give it a name. The next box down will be how much mixed juice you want to make. The next box down is the nic strength you want in your juice in terms of mg/ml, anything between 3 mg to 24 mg will do but I'd suggest 6mg to start. The next box down is for adding water or alcohol so leave this at zero. The next two boxes are for the VG & PG ratio in % that you want in the final mix, in your case this will be the ratio of the 0 nic juice that you purchased. The next box is the nic strength you are using to mix and you have purchased 100 mg nic. The next two boxes are for the PG and VG ratio in the nic you will mix into the juice, in your instance you have 100% PG in your nic. You will not have to add a flavor to get your answer as to how much nic to mix in, it will now show below in the recipe you've created.

For instance if you want to make 30 ml of mixed juice using a 50/50 zero nic juice and a 100% PG based 100 mg nic to achieve a 6 mg nic mixed juice then what the recipe should call for is;
- 6% or 1.8 ml of the nic base
- 44% or 13.2 ml PG dilutant
- 50% or 15.0 ml of VG dilutant
Since you are starting with a pre-mixed juice the VG & PG dilutant figures represent this juice so you add them together to determine you need 94% or 28.2 ml of your juice to be added to 1.8 ml of your nic and you will end up with a juice of 6 mg of strength.

If you end up with an error message stating "Something is wrong with your VG/PG ratio?" the problem is that the % ratio you've set can not be achieved using the other additives you've chosen. For instance if you tried to set the above example to be a 95/5% VG/PG ratio it can't be done since you are adding 6% PG with the nic. Change the ratio to get rid of the error message.

Still not sure which way to go re low watt etc as still experimenting a bit but what lm liking is big clouds with medium throat hit... i figure if i can fine tune settings/ juice mix to achieve this consistently (rather than fluke) to be enjoyable but also deliver nicotine effectively than ill easily give away the cigs. Set to between 60 - 75w today and went medium puffs dtl... seemed good in flavour/throat hit etc - only problem is i mixed a premixed (nic) juice (vaporfi) with a mix from local supplier. Vaporfi juice seemed very strong/harsh so mixed it 50/50 with 0 nic stuff. Now i just need to figure out what mix i have now exactly... afraid ive complicated things further haha
vaporfi juice only says nicotine by volume unflavoured 5.14% flavoured 3.6% *with 9ml of flavour mixture
No mention of vg pg ratio or mg's of nic
