I was able to wrap the coil on the ceramic without too much difficulty, but I did have problems with attaching the coil ends to the posts. Creating a hole in the IGO deck is another great idea, I might have to steal that one too.
I didn't mean to hijack your Nextel discussion with ceramic discussions, but thanks for your genius ideas :toast:

I'm not sure what gauge of wire you tend to use; but anything 30g and under will hold it's shape pretty nicely. I usually have my legs crook'd, bent, pointed and skewed exactly where I want them to go, before screwing in my wikicoil.

did you break your wick while screwing?

Yes, I knew Curt9733 started the thread, but you contribute often. I had been using 32g for the ss wicks, and started the ceramics with it (I met Zen and he convinced me of the virtues of 32g). I have since switched to 30g, especially with the ceramic. I broke the wick when I laid it down on a piece of paper towel. I have been treating them very very gingerly, and it is the fragility of the ceramic that is starting to drive me mad :D.
SnG seems to be out of the Nextel, but I added me email for notification. Should I even bother trying to order from Omega? I doubt I could BS my way through a technical discussion of uses of this product.:glare:

...There's mine with the xc116 sleeve. Excuse the contents of my tank. Lol I was too lazy to do a complete take down to clean up the tank after the failed attempt at using the xc116 as a wick. Vapes pretty nice too with a 1.5mm airhole
This is the first thread that I have seen the short wicks. What is the reason for the short wicks?

Well, my first reasoning to it was: If I'm gonna be vaping it with the genesis tilt anyway with long wick set up, why not save in wick material by doing short wick?

BEST DECISION EVER. Even before the xc116 sleeve, the ss wick would literally be soaked in juice. It was ridiculously awesome

I think we should leave Omega alone for a while. don't want them feeling the need to dig in. (?) What, pray tell, did Zen have to say about 32g magic?
He said it is the only gauge he uses when he makes and sends the wicks with his mods, that it was the easiest and best to use, and that there was no need to use a different gauge. When someone else mentioned the ribbon Kanthal, he said that there is no benefit. He also showed me how to wrap a coil on the wick installed in the PV. He is very adept at it, me not so much. Zen is a very interesting guy, and has all the air of a vaping guru. I had not wrapped a single coil when I met Zen, and I'm clearly still exploring things for myself, though. With all of that said, he was very patient and a really really nice guy.

Oh, well I'm using mine for a small kiln I'm building, ceramics, heat treating knives. I'm going to line the door/opening with it.

When I ordered free sample directly from 3M, I ran into the same problem. I was honest, and they denied my request with the same "industrial use only" reasoning. I think their lawyers have advised 3M (and their "industrial suppliers") not to sell to vapers, because they don't want to deal with the FDA coming down on them.

So I placed another order and told them I was using it to shield the leads on heating elements in a foil stamping press at the book bindery I work in. I had a sample in 2 weeks. They sent me enough to actually use it for that, with enough left over to make a couple coils to try it out in my attys, so technically it wasn't a lie.

If you can't beat the system, game it...

got this from the MSDS dated 1999

HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS:
Carbon monoxide, formic acid and trace amounts of other substances.

RECOMMENDED VENTILATION:
Provide appropriate local exhaust when product is heated. Use in a
well-ventilated area. Provide sufficient ventilation to maintain
emissions below recommended exposure limits. If exhaust ventilation
is not adequate, use appropriate respiratory protection.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION:
Avoid breathing of airborne material. Avoid breathing of thermal
decomposition products. Select one of the following NIOSH approved
respirators based on airborne concentration of contaminants and in
accordance with OSHA regulations: half-mask dust respirator, full-
face dust respirator.

But the one from 2013 says no health effects from inhalation is expected. So the old data would have us consider that this may not be safe for our use. but the new data suggest it should be pretty safe. Both reports do say due to their large size (7-13 microns in diameter), Nextel(TM) Ceramic Fibers are considered non-respirable and, therefore, are not
expected to pose a cancer risk. Fibers are defined as respirable by WHO convention if the length is larger than 5 microns and the
diameter is less than 3 microns with a length to diameter ratio greater than 3:01. Just something to take in for consideration I guess. I tried this stuff when I had an Iatty but have gone from when I had a genesis atty phase. I'm now on a RDA phase and have been using hemp with great success, but the nextel has once again piqued my interest.

The first part there reads alot like the instructions for heat treating the stuff to remove the "organic" material. The "OK to inhale" part sounds like after heat treating. Compare to heat treating instructions (official, I guess) posted at this vendor . . . . .

Speaking of which, it's curt9733's thread. You out there, curt? Still alive? Feeling any better?

Thanks for asking. I'm starting to feel better. The problem started with aspiration pneumonia (pneumonia caused by inhaling vomit). The aspiration occurred two days before the pneumonia developed. I have had the aspiration problem for 30 years or so, due to a weak upper stomach valve. A day after the pneumonia started, I developed sepsis, which, if not treated in time quickly leads to septic shock causing organ damage, organ failure, and a 70% mortality rate. I was about 5 hours or so away from septic shock. I went to the ER, and they administered massive amounts of IV antibiotics, stuck me with lots of big needles for bloodwork, took my temperature (104) checked my blood pressure (93/55 which was very low), checked my blood oxygen levels (also dangerously low). They also took my clothes away and gave me one of those gowns which show your .... Luckily, since I have lost 65 pounds in the past 4 months (I am on a special diet to prevent seizures caused in part by reactive hypoglycemia), I have no ... to show. I was admitted for a 6 day stay for more antibiotics, tests, CT scans, etc. I could not vape at all when I was sick because it hurt too much. One of my CT scans showed "innumerable bilateral pulmonary nodules," which is not good, especially as a former heavy smoker with a history of cancer and a genetic history of cancer. However, I don't think any of the nodules are very large, so that may be in my favor. I had to go back to the ER again two days ago because I couldn't breathe, so they gave me oxygen and a ventolin treatment X 7. So it's off to the pulmonary specialist Tuesday morning to find out what the plan of action is, then to the gastroenterologist on Wednesday to schedule an upper GI endoscopy to figure out what can be done (probably surgery) to prevent the aspirations. I am able to vape again at lower pg, no menthol, and lower nic level. The best thing I have gotten out of this is proof of how fragile and important the lungs are. I share this with all of my friends who are smokers and think they are going to live forever or just don't care (so they say). I remember back in my 30's when my thoughts about smoking were something like, "Well you have to die sometime," or "You have to die from something." Many of the people in the other rooms next to mine were in some degree in respiratory failure, and some were around my age (43). The woman in the room next to me was in constant pain, and she moaned all night long. I can now tell my friends that dying hurts a lot in most cases, and not only that, it hurts everyone around you, especially your family. My 13 year old son came to see me every day. No child should EVER experience that kind of worry. He tried to hide it, but I could see it in his eyes, and his actions. So if you can put death off as long as possible all the better. Dying young is like writing or reading a book halfway and then stopping. You would think to yourself, "What could I have done given another 30-40 years?" I have been married for 23 years. I could finish my lifelong journey with my wife, I could see my son graduate from High school and College. We could go hunting, play chess, basketball, and fix cars. I could educate him unlike anything he could get in public school. I think to myself, "What would life be like for them if I weren't here?" My wife works part time, we have a house payment plus many other bills to pay. My son needs guidance (he is just starting to get hair in his armpits). Will they have to sell our home which we have lived in for 20 years? will they live in a small apartment? Will my son have to switch schools and be away from all his friends? Will he blame me for living like I did in the past? What the hell was I thinking when I used to smoke and drink in total denial of the repercussions? Why do we do these thing to ourselves, and why do we disregard the effects these actions have on others? Life sucks sometimes, but dying ALWAYS sucks.
Anyways, I am back to rocking the AGA-T2 with the nextel. It's fantastic as usual. I am going to ask the pulmonary specialist about e cigarettes in general, and I'll let you know what he says. BTW, has anyone had success recently in ordering from Omega? If so, what justification did you give them for purchasing?

Wow, Curt, thanks for this post. I hope that you recover more fully soon. I didn't try to order from Omega, but SnG just emailed me that they have Nextel back in stock. I went to the site, and it still says Out Of Stock. I'll try again later tonight.
Two posts offered justifications for ordering from Omega. One was lining a kiln door and another was insulating heating element leads in a book binding machine (I think, something like that:))
Feel better soon...

Alot to take in. GLAD you're feeling better. Yeah, I know (w/ my 8 yr. old daughter).

We need to start telling everyone how much the Nextel sucks, man. I got an email from SnG that it was back in stock (@3:30). Ordered some at 4:30 and got the last 2 ft. So, EVERYBODY, NEXTEL SUCKS!
Oh, so you're the reason I didn't get any Nextel?!?! :D

I know. I was feeling good that I got some. Now, not so much.

My experiments with different wick shapes and sizes, and with how the stuff works in different atties have left me with not much. I'm pretty sure that, with this 1-2 hour run on the stuff, SnG will stock/treat larger quantities.
No problem, that is the way these things work. I'll get my hands on some eventually...I do have other wick diversions I am trying as well. I've got some ceramic, hemp, and white wick:)
