Why are you so concerned about nicotine that plays such a relatively low impact when these chemicals injure more children than nicotine?
Common Household, Industrial, And Agricultural Products Containing Toxic Sustances
Alcohol (rubbing) FuelAntifreeze Floor/furniture polish
Arsenic Gasoline Art and craft supplies
Glues/adhesives Automotive fluids Hemlock
batteries, automotive Kerosene batteries, household
Mercury Building products Metal primers
Cleaning products Metalworking materials Cosmetics/personal care items
Mothballs Cyanide Oven cleaners
Daffodil bulbs Paint strppers/thinners Dieffenbachia
Paints, oil-based or alkyds Disinfectants/air fresheners Paints, water-based or latex
Drain openers Pesticides Flea collars/insect repellent
English nightshade Stains/finishes Ethanol
Strychnine Foxglove Wood preservatives

But then they don't get the attention like nicotine or exploding ecigs do.

Lets outlaw....

-guns
-most medicines
-knives
-anything flammeable
-cars (you know, they can blow up)
-lighters
-PENCILS. (they can poke an eye out ;) )

Well....you get the picture.

I see your concern. I really do. BUT, you are advising everybody something that is common sense. Anything like the above list can kill someone, just depends on how you said children use it/get to it.

Welcome to Australia.

Let me elaborate.
Guns mostly illegal unless it's a single shot variety. Need licenses and rego and your ammo can't be locked up with the gun. All because some dude shot a bunch of people.

You can buy paracetamol and cough medicine in the supermarket, but almost anything else needs to be purchased at a pharmacy. You have to show ID and get treated like a druggie to get certain very common analgesics because they can be made into Illegal substances.

You have to be over 18 to buy a knife of any description. Even cutlery.

Lighters are all childproof, and on some cases, adult proof.

New cars must have airbags, abs brakes, and electronic stability control. Because apparently, our driving skills aren't worth a .....

Pencils are discouraged from an early age with many schools offering the "pen license" as an incentive that causes us to work hard to spurn this evil device and make us think it was our own idea.

Very informative post and I agree. While I don't know anyone here who would be so careless or cruel, my bf knows/knew deadbeat people who do coke and who knows what else all day and have 2-3 kids in each household. I could totally see them letting a child taste the juice to see the reaction, unfortunately. They are too stupid to know that could be a fatal mistake. The world is full of idiots and if they stumbled on this post via Google, it's all for the better.

Lol.
People like that aren't googling ecigs.

They're far more likely to be watching the wrestling.

Just keeping it (not) real. :D

Yes but how many tast like peanutbutter?
and I never said anything about banning nic..

A child don't care about how things taste or smell, I know you have to agree. When my little girl ate some cigarette butts at my ex's I know for a fact they have to taste like pure nastiness. But then again she kept eating them. Some cleaners have almond extracts lemons etc...

Same..everywhere almost?

You can buy paracetamol and cough medicine in the supermarket, but almost anything else needs to be purchased at a pharmacy. You have to show ID and get treated like a druggie to get certain very common analgesics because they can be made into Illegal substances.

Usually same in Amurrica

You have to be over 18 to buy a knife of any description. Even cutlery.

Sounds about right.

Lighters are all childproof, and on some cases, adult proof.

Always funny when you hand a sixteen year old a lighter and take it away saying it childproof. (Movie: Waiting)

New cars must have airbags, abs brakes, and electronic stability control. Because apparently, our driving skills aren't worth a .....

LOL my car doesnt have any of that...removed by yours truly..because racecar.

Ever notice that many major brand cleaning products look similar to your kids’ drinks in the fridge?

Ammonia Fatal when swallowed
Ammonium Hydroxide Corrosive, irritant
Bleach Potentially fatal if ingested
Chlorine Number one cause of poisonings in children
Formaldehyde Highly toxic; known carcinogen
Hydrochloric acid Corrosive, eye and skin irritant
Hydrochloric bleach Eye, skin and respiratory tract irritant
Lye Severe damage to stomach and esophagus if ingested
Naphtha Depresses the central nervous system
Nitrobenzene Causes skin discoloration, shallow breathing, vomiting, and death
Perchlorethylene Damages liver, kidney, nervous system
Petroleum Distillates Highly flammable; suspected carcinogen
Phenol Extremely dangerous; suspected carcinogen; fatal taken internally
Propylene Glycol Immunogen; main ingredient in antifreeze <----- I chuckled * but then again the main ingredient in most things is water so..
Sodium hypochlorit Potentially fatal
Sodium laurel sulfate Carcinogen, toxin, genetic mutagen
Sodium tripolyphosphate Irritant
Trichloroethane Damages liver and kidneys

A fair enough original post that I expected to disagree with given the title, but... I don't. Like others I'm not sure the post was delivered perfectly, and I don't give additional credence simply because of a Ph.D in Engineering, which is quite irrelevant to Chemistry (though his daughter's qualification is of course relevant).

I was looking through the thread yesterday about how people store their stuff, and many had fancy-looking lockable boxes which can be bought quite cheaply at the likes of Office Depot et al.

I have no kids, no friends with kids (okay, no friends) and no-one comes in my apartment. My stuff is in a locked tackle box. If I take juice round a friend's house, it remains in my pocket, and the idea of not checking my ADV is in my pocket before I leave is unconscionable. More so, I'm using a tank nowadays that holds over 2 days of juice, so I rarely take juice out of the home anymore. Forgetting my PV with tank, simply couldn't happen.

When I talk to people about ecigs I always make a point of explaining that if the juice were drunk in the quantities its sold, it will likely kill. I think that's all the caution that is necessary. You don't need scare tactics here... ECF is by and large a smarter community than average. :)

I support the OP's advice. We are dealing with dangerous liquids and they should be treated accordingly.

Some interesting factoids

In the past 40 years, at least 70,000 new chemicals have been released into the environment through new consumer and industrial products and food.
Male and female infertility are on the rise. Research is now pointing to pesticides as a viable cause.
Women who work in the home have a 54% higher death rate than women who work out of the home. - Toronto Indoor Air Conference, 1990
Each year more than 50 million Americans suffer from allergic diseases. Allergies are the sixth leading cause of chronic disease in the US, costing the health care system $18 billion annually. The prevalence of allergic rhinitis (inflamed nasal membranes) has increased substantially over the past 15 years.
Asthma ranks among the most common chronic conditions in the United States, affecting an estimated 14.9 million persons.
According to the U.S Poison Control Centers, "A child is accidentally poisoned every 30 seconds and more than 50% of all poisonings occur at home with children under 5 years of age."
Asthma is the #1 cause of absenteeism in schools.
There has been a 25% increase in the last 25 years in cancer incidence among children under 15 years of age.
ADD/ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed childhood behavior disorder today. More than two million (3-5%) children have ADD.
Thirty years ago the 3 major childhood illnesses were chickenpox, measles and mumps. Now it is asthma, ADD and cancer.
Brain cancer in children is up 40% in 20 years.

I absolutely understand where you are coming from. It is very dangerous. BUt I hate to say, you are tunnel visioned on this. Yes it is dangerous, but taking a quick look in my bathroom I can see roughly 20-30 products which are much more lethal, and not under my constant supervision. Life is dangerous, keep your juices out of reach of children. (Every new parent understand babyproofing your home) and watch your kids. The bottles (most I believe) all come with a child proof cap (which I even have had a hard time with).

Unfortunately, nothing is safe and it is up to us as humans to protect the ones we love. When you look at the big picture, if you know you will be having poison in your home, you prepare for it. Just as you prepare for all of lifes dangers when they do occur.

A label I totally agree with stating that it is poisonous. Though I dont think this would help children, more so for the adults. As I know children do not listen to labels....let alone they're parents most of the time lol.

Best of luck and just be careful! And congratulations on quitting!
