That is very interesting, it's amazing how much things change isn't it. THough I do have a theory (and only a theory) With the introduction of new research materials, and the implementation of fear. I believe these numbers have risen due to people looking for it more. I don't know if you understand, but If you look....you will find. 30 years ago the last thing on anyones mind was sickness and disease. Therefore, there was no extended research into the field. Bam, 30 years later. Almost everyone is trying to find out what is killing people and yada yada yada, thus they come out with much larger numbers. Just my 2 cents :p

Wow. So true.
30 years ago, all I was thinking of was sleep, food, warmth, nursery rhymes and why my nappies were so heavy.
Plus I didn't even know what numbers were, let alone large numbers.

Nicotine has a bad reputation due to it's association with cigarettes, but it is not a bad drug. Nicotine may account for the addiction to cigarettes but it does not cause death or disease, it is the chemicals found in cigarettes which are added during the production process that account for the consequences of smoking, not nicotine.

Most vascular damage is caused by nic.

im not at all going to get in to if this thread should have been posted or the intent of the OP. I will say this thread made me think of something i should do. I am a very active internet user and read lots of info here and else where about the dangers of nicotine. I realized that although i am very aware, that doesnt mean everyone in my house is very aware. So i just took a moment to make sure that everyone in my house knows the dangers of the products i use. Sometime i assume that me knowing means my wife knows too. After 17 years of her telling me what im going to say or how im going to react i assume she can read my mind, LOL. The truth is as much as she would like to read my mind, she cant and thats probably why we made it 17 yrs together....

Accounts for PART of the addiction to cigarettes. And it is an interesting notion to speak of nicotine addiction as long as you have a fairly safe method of administration. NB, nothing is perfectly safe. But it doesn't fit the criteria for substance dependence disorder anymore if consuming it does not cause known harm to you and your life.

The OP keeps talking about people in vids that have e-juice on shelves and such. Has it occurred to him that those people may not have children in the home?

As I look to my left, within 3 feet of me I see a couple hundred + ml of 24 and 36 mg liquid and about 90ml of 100mg nic, a knife, some vicodin, and a .40 pistol with live ammo in the chamber. The gun is a Glock, so it has no safety either. To my left within 3 feet, is another 40+ml of 24mg liquid, another knife, a .45 caliber 1911 pistol with one in the chamber, hammer back and safety on. Behind me is a 12 gauge shotgun, loaded with one in the chamber. I have other various bottles of juice and firearms spread around the house as well.

I suppose it is safe to say I am not in a kid friendly environment. Everything I have named could easily be reached by a 3 year old. Considering I live alone and have no kids, I see no problem with that.

Well I have an electric blanket and a mobile phone two feet from my head while I sleep.

Beat that.

alan21 - prove it

``The findings of this study demonstrate that nicotine causes acute endothelial dysfunction in long-term smokers and suggest that there may be other constituents of cigarette smoke that contribute to this adverse effect,'' Neunteufl and colleagues conclude.

The study also suggests that nicotine-containing nasal spray, which is used as nicotine replacement therapy for smokers trying to quit, could contribute to heart disease risk.

Let's ignore the OP and talk about interesting stuff.

Tobacco companies are marketing a "safe cigarette", also known as fourth generation electrically heated smoking system (EHCSS). Anybody knows about this? I keep stumbling on medical research done recently using these devices. In the papers, they specify the devices are not marketed yet, and provided to researchers by Phillip Morris. I wonder when they come out with these? I'm sure they will already have scientific data that they are safer than cigarettes, and then the FDA will gleefully say "the EHCSS is a scientifically proven safe alternative to smoking, while e-cigs, well... we don't know what's in them". I find this quite intriguing but I don't know much about it...

I guess it's a variation of this: Patent US6803545 - Electrically heated smoking system and methods for supplying electrical ... - Google Patents

Also: Philip Morris buys smokeless nicotine technology from Duke researcher

Be afraid, be very afraid...

Well, if you are dealing with 1000 mg/ml nicotine, aka "pure nicotine", and you smash a bottle of it on your floor... god help you. I don't think the cost of replacing your floor is the big issue here. I'm thinking the "immediate death" might be a bigger one.

Yes, nicotine is very poisonous. Yes you need to handle even very dilute (say up to 3.6% nicotine solutions) very carefully. And yes, some people will be idiots and poison themselves or others.

But we have to compare here- about 4 million Americans will die from smoking in the next twenty years. I am pretty sure that 4 million people aren't gong to die from handling juice badly.

So be very careful with your juice and tell the banners to go .... themselves.

Best
