So I was at my doctor this morning and figured while I was there I'd ask to see what she thought about the e-cig. She didn't sound real happy when I asked and she proceeded to tell me that it's not much better than a real cigarette and that nicotine causes lung cancer, heart attacks and strokes. Now the heart attack and stroke I can understand because of it being a stimulant but lung cancer? I think she needs to go back to medical school. I just might be switching doctors.

Does Nicotine Cause Lung Cancer?

I would DEFINITELY look for a new doctor. When I demonstrated my PV to my doctor, 2 1/2 years ago, he was thrilled that I stopped smoking. I gave him information I printed out from the CASAA web site and gave him the web address of CASAA. He now recommends vaping to his patients that smoke. My dentist ask me to provide him information for his brother-in-law who smokes.

If you plan on suggesting to a doctor to go to a web site for information on vaping, I would not tell them to come here. They don't want to read all our "chatter". I would direct them to CASAA.

Awesome, thank you.

It's not 100% healthy. I mean you are still pumping a stimulant into your body, but it's sure of a hell a lot better than pumping that and then a crap top of other hazardous chemicals into your body. My doctor gave the whole "Well I preferred you didn't smoke anything at all." routine, but then proceeded to tell me that it was much better than cigarettes.

I read somewhere that nicotine has been known to promote cancer growing cells. I wish I would have bookmarked the article. They tested it on lab rats that already had cancerous cells and it increased the growth. I'll try to find it when I'm off and post it...I have to get to bed..work tonight.

Not discrediting this in any way but I believe we are all born with a certain amount of cancerous cells or cells that have the potential or that are at more risk or something like that for getting full blown cancer. I think the problem is when they start to grow and spread. I could be wrong though but I thought I heard something to that effect.

Haha, yeah..."Well I preferred you didn't smoke anything at all" How many times have I heard that.

It's amazing how many alleged health professionals have bought into the anti-tobacco hysteria without using their own professional knowledge to question it.

Yes, I'd be finding a different doctor.
And if you're in an HMO and have to request that you don't get that doctor again make sure you tell someone why, that she is not educated and relies on common rumors rather than medical facts and theories.

I cringe when I simply hear doctors incorrectly using the word "cause".

Nicotine wards off Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
IIRC, in small doses it's also useful for symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis.

Nicotine itself is not harmful except in extremely large doses - but then so is water.
And oxygen.

Heck, I think everything is dangerous in extremely large doses. And yes....even chocolate.... :)

I went to my doctor on thursday, I am diabetic and have the begining signs of congestive heart failure, he was so happy that I was vaping. He had been doing research on it but before me had not met anyone that vaped. He asked me to show him how it worked and so there I sat in my doctors office vaping away:) For the record this was my fathers doctor as well. He diagnosed my dad with CoPD in 2007 and lung cancer in 2009.
I asked him about the known risks of lung cancer and nicotine and he told me that there is no connection. However if someone were to already have cancer certain things will help "feed" the cancer cells, like nicotine and caffine.
I personally am comfortable with vaping. I have done my research and so has my doctor. Oh and on the plus side.... my heart is slowly returing to normal size and I do not get winded anymore. Vaping has saved my life and of this I am positive.
Happy vaping all!!
