Nicotine Comparisons

I feel that this thread is pursued by two distinct groups of people, both looking for something else..

One group is looking for nic base with as less flavor and bite as possible, in order to prevent interference with the flavors that are mixed into it, or just because they like to vape unflavored base (where unflavored means unflavored).

The other group is looking for nic base that has a pleasant flavor that comes from the tobacco it was extracted from, in order to support the tobacco flavors in their mixes, or just because they like to vape unflavored base (where unflavored means without additional flavorings).

This means that it makes no sense to talk about nic base in terms of good or bad, without telling what you mean by that.

I am in the second group. I look for nic base that has a pleasant flavor. This means that I am not very interested in trying NN or VT (apart from the fact that they do not ship to Europe). From the ones that were discussed in this thread I tried MFS and RTS, and from these to I prefer the flavor of MFS (I have a liter in my freezer). From the European suppliers I used to love EcoPure Regular and AtmosLab Mist, but I slowly started to dislike taste of the former, and dropped the latter because of inconsistent batches. Tried a few others which I didn't like much, but didn't try Inawera (allegedly too pure for my taste).

Several of the bases I've tried have an nasty taste of what I consider (not sure) to be traces of some kind of chemical solvent that is used in the extraction process. Whatever it is, it tastes bad.

RTS and MFS don't have that and therefore I consider them to be free of undesired substances that were not part of the tobacco it was made from.

(btw in my case it's all 100% VG)

I would add at least one more group; those that have very limited funds and are looking for something that serves their purposes while costing as little as possible, but do want to avoid anything truly nasty.

Didn't mean to badmouth your choices. I'm sure they're fine nics. I had tried them back in '11 when their was more inconsistency around and got some bad stuff- that's all.

No offence at all my friend, on the contrary. In fact we are all sharing a common interest. I do not know many people who like to spend time on this subject :)

At the same time I get the feeling that we all make strong statements on brands as if they are what they are, while in the meantime they are changing like crazy while we talk. I guess that your '11 stuff has nothing to do with my '14 stuff, other than that they are both from MFS.

Best thing to reach for is to have something in your freezer that you like, preferably enough for many years ahead (don't know about the USA but in Europe legislation is kicking in very soon now).

Every base sold in the USA is dirt cheap compared the prices in Europe.

Strangely enough the cheapest stuff seems to be the best in flavor to me..

But this third group of yours, don't they have a preference for clean taste or 'dirty' taste? Or would you call them 'the ignorent group' who buy anything that is acceptable?

In fact, my first two groups was a division within those who search for the best (i.e. everyone who takes part in this thread), so your third group would not be part of that ;)

No, more like people who appreciate an excellent cheese, say Reggiano Parmesan for me, but must eat something else most of the time because they cannot afford that. I'd rather have a decent American Parmesan on my pasta than none at all. And I would certainly prefer vaping mediocre nic to smoking, price considerations aside.

That's exactly why I buy my nic in the states, and why you should buy your parmesan in Europe. The best 2.5 years old reggiano is about 50 dollars a kilo here and can be kept for a long time, just like your nic base [emoji39]

(edit: with the falling Euro it's rather 40 dollars nowadays, and going down steeply, so you will all be eating Italian parmesan soon)

Very witty and very true.

Unlike descriptions of fine wine, there's no standards of what is meant by words such as peppery, dirty, throat hit, grassy and I think color might be a nice addition as well as aroma. I don't know if anyone here wants to attempt to define those terms but it might go a long ways towards understanding what some of the reviewers are referring to.

Taste is highly subjective. One person's distaste for a specific nic flavor might very well be another's preference. One thing for sure is that not all nic is created equal and vapors have increasing standards that manufacturers have to satisfy. When I first started vaping, WL was considered the cleanest taste and that was just over a year ago.

Good post. I try to advise anyone to get several samples and test. It's so darn cheap compared to cigs.

I wonder how many regulars here have a supply of nicotine base that at their usual rate of consumption would outlast their natural life expectancy.

Well.......If I got my mothers genes (she's 92 and going strong. Her mother made it almost to 105), I don't have enough. On the other hand if I got my fathers genes, I'd better quickly tell my next of kin what's in those little bottles in the freezer. ;)
