I cut my nic down to 3mg from 8mg within days after I started using a kayfun - a highly efficient nic delivery machine I call it. My juice consumption didn't go up that much either; maybe 15-20%.

Wow good for you - that has been my fear to become a chain vaper LOL I am at 18mg and a ml a day so far and hope to not change it much in the future:p

I've got both the subtank and atlantis arriving any day now and currently, I'm at 18mg - 24mg. I've heard stories of people needing to drop their nic. Anyone have any suggestions so I can be prepared? I'll probably just wing it, but I love the idea of dropping nic level.

If I were you, whatever liquid you know you love and already have on hand in higher strength (whether DIY or premade), make some/get some in a low nic so that you can easily adjust it by mixing the two. I began dripping with my 24 mg/mL and was fine until I wasn't. When I wasn't fine, it wasn't too cool. I dropped my nic soon (for those type of devices).

I vape 12mg 50/50 in my Nautilus/BVC
I dropped to 3mg 40/60 in my subtank 1.2
I vape at least twice as much in the ST and 6mg was harsh.
3mg is good for me

Just finished reading the last 2 years of posts and the first year. A big shout out to all for contributing. I've been away almost 3 years and been mooching about, having a grand time. ;) One thing never changes, sense of taste is highly subjective.

Of the 2 categories described, I have a foot planted firmly in each. I like unflavored 50% of the time. I like the taste when its not tainted by chemical flavors but not at all a fan of pepper. Years ago I bought a bottle labeled levy ( as I remember). It was straight up black pepper to me and I have never had it so strong since. I like moderate TH. When I flavor its typically a tab variant. No fluffy flavors for me. :D So a gessoed canvas is not necessary. Sitting on the fence as to which nic will be my next purchase.

Nope, gesso is not necessary -- but rabbit skin glue is awesome on linen.

(sorry, the painter needed to say that. LOL)

Just got in another liter of VapersTek Throat Hit 100 mg VG. For the money, this nic is my current favorite. In the past this VG-nic had 12% water added, but this batch seems unthinned. For unflavored vaping, about 22% water opens up the TH and pepper in the nose very nicely, but this batch is milder than the first round I got last Fall in terms of pepper effect.

For my normal carto vaping during the day I am about 18-24 mg. But with my Kayfun Lite at 1.0 ohms on a mech I cannot go above 8 mg max. It is too efficient and too pleasurable to not just sit there and puff away. I don't think my blood nic levels are much different, the Kayfun just delivers nic much better for how I vape with it. That is not to say one cannot lower their nic intake over time, but I'm not sure that using a more efficient atomizer with lower nic levels is necessarily doing that.

Jonathon Foulds, MD, from Penn State gave a really interesting talk at the FDA Ecig Workshop earlier this week. His team survey 1000s of ex-smokers who were now exclusively vaping for >1 year (average was 1.3 years, I think). When comparing the estimated average nicotine absorbed from their previous smoking levels with the average nic absorbed while exclusively vaping, they found that the levels were almost equal. Conclusion: we know how much absorbed nic is needed to maintain a particular level of comfort, and when we switch from smoking to vaping, as long as the gear allows it (not cigalike), we naturally gravitate to that same former blood-nicotine level, no matter the level of nic we have in a juice.

This thread is about comparing the quality and experience details of the different nics on the market today, but I thought I would throw this in, since the concept of lowering nic levels with RBAs and higher wattage came up.

How nicotine levels can be measured (or "estimated") by survey?

A buddy of mine makes his own liquid and is offering let me use his supplies and help me out with getting started. I figured I should learn since the FDA and local state stuff is going to swing down hard. I already have some Amber Boston Round bottles ordered for long term freezer storage , After some research I decided dividing it into smaller bottles that I can take out when needed, and allow to warm to room temperature before opening seems the best way to do it as VG when in the freezer seems to become a dense syrup correct?

I'm looking for a good all VG Base and based on this thread given the price and availability these are the ones I'm looking at.

Vapers Tek is the one ATM I am leaning towards. Good things are said about them here it seems..
1 Liter U.K. Throat-Hit Nic (100 mg USP/EP) - Vapers Tek

Ecig Expess Is another one that someone on Reddit said was alright.
100mg Unflavored Nicotine Base - ecigExpress

My Freedom Smokes This is my third option, I have heard people describe it as "Peppery" and some have had mixed results.

Thanks for your input!

You may buy a litre of something then wonder if you made the right descion for your own tastes. Might consider getting small bottles from all three or even a few more e vendors before buying a litre.

Yeah I might try that. My friend uses Nude Nicotine but It's a bit too expensive for me ATM, but He said he would buy from me what I don't use if it comes down to me not liking whatever it is personally.

I believe those surveyed were also clinical test subjects. You are right, survey alone would not give blood levels. They measured cotinine levels from vaping and compared to normal cotinine levels for the particular number of cigs smoked a day when the subjects smoked. The point is we gravitate to the nicotine consumption we had while smoking, on average.

Most people seem to report starting at high levels and then dropping down. I used 24mg briefly, then 18 for quite a while. Now I'm happy with 12mg.

When you say we gravitate to the level we got when smoking, does that refer to the high level we start vaping at, or the level we settle into after a while? I'm thinking we might need a higher level than we got when smoking to get us past the hump of quitting.

Sorry if this has already been covered. I should check out the survey and see how long the subjects had been vaping, but this is a really long thread and I haven't read through it.

I imagine a lot has to do with total consumption more than just a particular mg/mL of a liquid. I now vape a lot of 6 mg/mL, but I also vape it about 4x as much as I did 24 mg/mL that I used to buy. My consumption has gone up without exactly raising nic consumption -- I just consume more PG/VG and flavoring than I used to. Now, of course, that isn't the same for everyone as some people go totally off of nic.

When I vape 24 mg/mL it is unflavored and I vape it a whole lot less (in terms of actual mL) than my 6 mg/mL.

I've tried WL, NN, Vices, VT and Heartland (PG and VG)

I like throat-hit, but don't want any peppery taste or funky odors. The 2 I've settled on are VT TH (that you link above) and Heartland VG nic Nicotine Solution 100mg Pure USP Grade - Liter Heartlandvapes Wholesale

When I started 24 was the recommended level and thinking back at the equipment then it wasn't a bad idea. Most weren't able to vape more than maybe 3-4ml daily- equipment limited. Change this, change that, clean this then that, swap out batteries...

Cartos made things better and then carto-tanks made it too easy. I empty a 6ml of 12mg/ml daily now. Back then I struggled to use 2.5 of 24mg/ml.

I recommend 18 for PAD newcomers now and I think most drop down to 12 soon after. 24 with plenty of PG is a harsh vape.
