Somewhere out there
Make a single large batch of PG/VG mix. Split it into 5 portions. Add one type of nic to four of them and keep the 5th nic-free. That way each nic can be compared to the other as well as to a nic-free "juice".

I mixed up some 0 nic vg/pg 50/50 and have been vaping that on and off. I've also sampled just PG by itself and just VG by itself. (Straight VG still makes my nose run.) I also ordered up a fresh bottle of PG, as I was running low. I was surprised to find that the fresh PG tastes much better than the 2 year old stuff. Both are from Essential Depot. I don't know if the old PG went bad or picked up some taste through or from the plastic bottle.

I agree that the no-nic sampling is very useful in establishing a baseline for testing.

CB, I'm certainly willing and able to do that, but I think I should keep any results private until the end. It should also be understood that my results won't be entirely blind. Having dispensed all those samples from marked bottles, I think I can identify at least two of the bases visually.

I'm kinda thinking everyone should keep their observations and results to themselves, at least for some period of time, so as not to influence others. So by all means, let's talk about what should be observed and how, but let's not discuss the actual results just yet.

I agree observations should be kept private until a reporting time. I also agree on a 1-10 scale, 1 being lowest, 10 being highest. For example, smell - 1 being no smell, 10 being a strong smell.

Rossum, Do you have a Google drive acct? If so you could have a folder in there for each participant or if people have there own they can send you a link to folder so you can see results.
this way if we have a general form we can fill out and drop in folder it can only be accessed by owner and whomever they send link to and can be edited if you want.
I also think that having a 1-10 scale is overkill. its either going to be clear, colored or dark ... no odor slight odor or strong.. that kind of analysis I would think would be enough to get a pretty good idea, especially since taste and smell are very different between people, hence why a e-juice tastes good to some and others think it taste horrid or off.
Just my 2 cents ,hope it makes some sense.

I received my samples, Thanks rossum!

In the mean time... The nicselect I got from ecx is really good. Pretty great nicotine flavor to it for an unflavored nic base.

I think alchem finally nailed the process. It's some stiff competition for the others that I'm blinding.

I think Jeremy above illustrates a good point with this comparison. He is looking for that certain flavor in a nic base that he finds pleasing. Which isn't clean, flavorless, mild throat hit that I am looking for to subohm my Custard vapes.

I think there should be an overall rating based on smell, taste, throat hit, and an overall 1-10 scale of favorite based on vaping style.

I agree with above ... I am following this thread closely.

I am looking to see which nic comes out the cleanest tasting.

I like nicotine base to be as tasteless as possible.

Thanks again for doing this Rossum ... it is a great idea.

Cheers

It seems each of us has their own ideas of evaluation criteria. Perhaps our sponsor will step in and establish that.

I suggest a numerical rating for most criteria. Those can be averaged to obtain overall ratings. Additional comments can be shared here in the thread by individual testers.

Mine arrived early this week. I am going to mix up some unflavored this weekend and take notes of smell, taste, throat hit, color (in a clear syringe), whether it's peppery or not (well, that's really part of taste). I have to leave on business for 2 weeks next week so want to get my testing done with complete notes so when a reporting format is agreed upon, I will be ready to report.

These are all nic with pg, is that correct. And it was decided on a 50 50 mix?

I think 50/50 is suggested for those who can vape at that ratio. That' what I'm shooting for. I have my base made up ready to add the supplied nic. My finished mix will actually be 46.5% PG / 46.5% VG / 5% Distilled Water and 2% Nicotine.

I'm curious why you'd put 5% water in what would otherwise be a 50/50 mixture?
