@aikanae1 - I have never experienced "throat hit" and I think it is because I do light draws - like when I smoke? I have asked and asked what it is lol and do not get it. I also do not do lung hits at all. The thing you need to consider when I talk about taste is that I can use 5% of a ready made juice for flavoring - hopefully that will let you know where I am coming from - I doubt very much that most people would truly get any baccy taste from VT TH nic. ;)

Your right, I wouldn't taste most of what you can. I suspect your a "super taster" and I've known one other like that. It's kind of it's own curse. I am sensitive to TH. The slightest tickle will set me off into a coughing gag response. The reason why I asked is that I'm realizing that I'm understanding where some of the regulars on this forum are coming from. From there, I can better guage where I might fit in.

I guess I'm still trying to figure out ways to organize these impressions, even if it's sort of a lost cause. Force of habit. I'm also trying to come up with an analog form, mini booklet, to keep track of this stuff and DIY flavorings, taste notes, etc. for my own use.

The best way I can explain TH, for me at least, is a Sudden/Immediate and Very Noticeable tightening (almost to the point of causing me to cough) at the back of my throat for a Strong TH, which is what I like (inhaling Cigars did that to me :w00t:). Light TH would be a Delayed/More Gradual and Lesser tightening at the back of my throat (my Mom's Parlement's would do that to me :(). That's the best explanation I can come up with on TH. Hope this helps someone. :)

I would describe it as smelling like raw tobacco, almost woody. I worked in the tobacco fields for years growing up (broad-leaf, under the nets) and when I smell nic. I get that smell you would get from the stems as we snapped leaves off the main plant. To me there is a very subtle nut compound in the background but not like the kind I get from AP, more like a chestnut. Then again, maybe that's just me.

It's tobacco. :)

I got to thinking about this a little bit after I posted. Broadleaf tobacco is a big plant and the different parts of the plant smell different. The flower smells one way the leafs smell distinctly different but the smell I get from raw nic is that smell I used to get when I snapped the leafs off of the stems. Extrapolating this out some more, what I was probably smelling was the sap (that got all over our hands turning them in to sticky messes). This makes total sense as this is probably where the highest concentrations of nic. would be in the plant. So the most accurate description would be, it smells like tobacco sap.

Now I want to grow it. I got some seeds from an .edu site.

Amusingly enough, there seems to be an entire forum dedicated to that:
How to Grow Tobacco • Index page

Lol. Logged in. I think that's where I got the link for the seeds. There were thousands of varieties, all by numbers. I had to say I was a reascher investingating home growing. Why would an academic site promote home grown tobacco if it's so evil? That was before vaping.

It's still perfectly respectable to be a tobacco farmer. I bet some state still have agricultural extension services that will help tobacco farmers out with information at taxpayer expense. So it doesn't surprise me that there are 'academic' sites about it either.

It is still grown locally but now it is mostly field tobacco not the broadleaf under the nets that was used for cigar wrappers. Conn. River Valley Broad Leaf is a well known quality wrapping tobacco.

I just grabbed a variety of seeds. They were numbered and some were marked for wrapper, cigar, pipe. I have no idea what I have. I'm not sure I could find it again. I grew some garen variety nicotinoa by just throwing seeds out and it did very well with no effort on my part. Smelled divine. I can grow a lot of tropicals where I'm at.

Impressions from others can narrow down what you decide to try for yourself, but, in the end, if you're picky about nic, you have to try it for yourself. I remember seeing posts from at least one person, who came on this thread saying they just tried nic "A" and it was the tops. Then a month later they're back saying brand "B" was the tops and they were going to dump "A" into the sewer because they couldn't stand it. Also, Wizard labs used to be he darling that everyone praised, now it's hardly mentioned. I think the competition improved more so than anything going wrong with Wizard.

I'm not that picky about nic, I've tried a number of brands and never had one that really displeased me badly when fresh. I did have one that went fishy in time, but under less than ideal storage conditions, so I don't bad mouth the vendor. I have developed preferences, especially since going to unflavored and slight menthol, but I wouldn't feel immense deprivation if I couldn't get my preferred brand.

I'm so glad I was able to take part in the blind test that Rossum sponsored. It let me try 3 brands I hadn't had before and compare my impressions to what others thought. Nude came out on top and I agreed, but not by enough of a margin that I felt compelled to dump what I already had and replace it with NN. NN is what I'd suggest to try for a newbie who comes on the forum and doesn't know where to start. Then try other brands based on what they do and don't like about NN. For anyone who thinks NN is too expensive and doesn't mind a little bit of tobacco-ish taste and TH, I recommend VT TH highly. (I was using VT TH from before the taste test).

You used to work at a tobacco farm? Yea, I'm really getting interested. The complexity of curing kinda scares me. I wasn't thinking about taking it seriously before. I could do local organic and I bet there'd be a low key market esp for cigars since I don't think they are getting their premium exception. Did you enjoy working with the plants?

You know what I've been vaping since late summer? I mixed the left-overs from that test together, diluted it down to my usual 35pg/65vg/15nic, and put it up in 120ml glass bottles. It's not the greatest, but it's acceptable.

What I learned: Do not keep partly full plastic bottles of 100mg PG nic at room temperature! It hasn't changed perceptibly since I mixed it down and bottled it in glass, but it sure did between the time I opened the original bottles and dispensed the samples (which I think that was in late June) and when I mixed down the remainder in mid August. The NN (which was the only one that came in glass to begin with) changed the least.

I have plenty of "fresh" NN in the freezer and it wouldn't kill me to dump the stuff I mixed down in August, but I figure if I can vape this, any NN coming out of my freezer 5 years or even 10 years from now will be just fine. :)
