TL;DR: Does salt nic give a better hit at the same mg/ml concentration?

If you could vape freebase nic at the strengths typically found in salt nic - 50mg/ml, say - would you get the same 'buzz'? I think what I'm trying to ask is if removal (or reduction) of throat hit is salt nic's trick?

Apologies - this must have been done to death by now.

Many thanks.

Hi,
IMO...Yes. That is salt nic's trick.
Folks can use outdated 2010 technology (Juul etc.) with high concentrate nic salts and NOT have their throats ripped out.
A "better" hit, well; Some seem to think Salts are MORE bio-available, and some think Salts are LESS bio-available.

Full disclosure: I have 14 years worth of 100mg/ml freebase in my freezer. I have not had a desire or a need to try salts.

Thanks for that.

I think I'll pass on the salts, which I suspect the TPD will throttle anyway. I gave up on the 'buzz', but need a throat hit.

Very nice! Very nice indeed.

I use nic salts. I recently added a bunch of nic salt to a tank I inadvertently lowered my nic by well, it doesn't matter. I certainly got a bit of a "buzz" and also here and there "overload" (although my goal was to halt my recent return to smoking, and overload certainly makes you not want to smoke).

If you want to get all complicated with it, you could try half freebase, and half nic salts. That would give you your "buzz" feeling (although to be honest, my thoughts are the buzz can be transitory your body MAY adjust, although it also may not) and still give you the throat hit you want.

There are different processes to "make' nicsalts, by using malic, citric, or benzoic acid. I have a hunch that the method used may make a difference, but I don't know that for sure. Etc.

I've been DIY with them for a while, mainly because I wanted to avoid a throat hit. Honestly, by now I could probably use regular freebase and that will be the next thing I grab from the freezer after my current liter is gone. Etc.

"Even though nicotine salts are known to be not the most effective way to deliver nicotine, Pax Labs have supposedly figured out a way to make it more effective than freebase nicotine. This is due to the benzoic acid added to the salt nicotine as the nicotine becomes much more readily available and more effective than traditional freebased e-liquids." Nicotine Salt vs Freebase? Why Nicotine Salt Is The New Craze.
There is supposed to be a noticeable difference. This article breaks it down pretty well.

Thanks for the replies, everyone - that article's good.

At this stage, I manage without the cigarette buzz & just lean on throat hit.

I gather that the Juul might be about to hit the European market - not quite sure if/when. It's just a bit of a shame that the TPD will clip its wings, with the 20mg/ml cap. If it could help smokers by way of a more convincing hit, then I guess we're missing the cleverest part of the trick. Ah well...

Well, IMO, since freebase nic has been in eliquids that has helped millions of us switch and get off the smokes...I think we millions have discovered "the cleverest part of the trick" already. It's vaping in general and finding whatever nic level, set-up, MTL or DTL style, etc. did "the whole trick" for us. I'm sure even without nic salts, the availability of the Juul for them, etc., many more will discover it, too.

I've been using Freebase Nicotine and it's been wonderful for me. But I hear all the hype about Nic Salts and it got me curious. Can I use Nic salt 18mg on a MTL Innokin ares or an RDA? I hear a lot that nic salts are only for pod systems, is this true? I would like to give Nic Salt a try providing my devices are ok to use on an RTA/RDA? Thank you

Hi,
You can use any type of nicotine you desire in any device you desire.
Buy/use any topper/mod you like.
Adjust nicotine strength to suit.

I just read at an e-liquid site that you shouldn't use nic salt in a Sub-Ohm atty. I'm not sure why not but they definitely said not to do it.

A,
If the nicotine content is adjusted accordingly, salts can be used exactly like freebase nicotine.
I might suggest the site is trying to CYA or has a user base of beginner/inexperienced vapers. (juulers etc.)

In a SUBΩ device, 1.5mg/ml-3mg/ml seems to be the standard strength used. It can be salt or freebase, but the content of nicotine is the same. (Salts will remove 99% of the TH)

Obviously few would use 50mg/ml freebase with a smoke BBB, similarly, few would use salts at that level with that device.

Cheers

They probably say it as legalize to protect themselves from the folks who don't know that MOST COMMERCIALLY made nic salts are WAY TOO high for sub0ming and it can lead to nic overload.

Nic salts can be used in anything AT THE RIGHT DOSAGE. Much like belladonna is helpful for heart issues AT THE RIGHT DOSAGE.

You can use nic salts at 3 or 6 or whatever in a sub0hm device but by then, you are probably going to hit "I am at least diluting these nic salts like crazy OR doing DIY."

That's my opinion of why they say that though. Nic salts are hot. Sub0hm is hot. Totally important that kiddos don't combine 50 mg nic salts in their favorite cloudmaker. I'm not sure they'd read the warnings but that's my GUESS.

I just read something about nic salts formulation having anti-oxidant properties which in turn extends shelf life. Sounds reasonable i suppose...
