Been vaping seven years and I’ve tried dozens of devices. My RTA is doing well for me but feel it’s time for a change and would appreciate some help.
I picked up a juul starter kit ($28) just to check it out. I kinda liked the idea. So here’s the plan:
I’m using about 7 ml a day, 4 mg/ml juice in the RTA (I DIY with freebase nic.). With discipline, I should be able to use about 1.5 ml of 20 mg/ml nic-salts in a pod system to feed the addiction. The hardware is not a problem, have four deices for testing on the way.
The problem is this is my only experience with nicotine salts (10 times stronger than what I’m used to).

Will 20 mg still have too much kick?

Have you tried this?

If you use nic-salts, do you think this could work?

Am I crazy?

Uh . . . don’t answer that last one.

... but it’s the easiest question...
The deal with nic salts is they’re basically just like regular nic. You can cut them with ejuice base, mix them, vape them in whatever, etc... the only difference is they’re formulated to have less (or more if you want) throat hit.

Don't know where I saw it but I thought Nic-salt was advertised as "smooth" (less TH) and absorbed faster.
Do you mix with Nic-Salts?

I did it once or twice. I found them forgettable personally, but I vape 10mg in DL to begin with. In my experience and from everything I have read, they mix and behave exactly like regular nic except for the change in throat hit.

Hey Whiplash. I tried the nic salts and it's nice. I normally use about 1 ml a day at 20 mg. "Freebase" nicotine actually refers to nic salts. The ammonia reacting with the nicotine makes it more bioavailable:
Freebase nicotine - SourceWatch

I do find that in unflavoured liquids the taste of the salts is different from the regular nicotine juice. A little flavor quickly covers this up. I also find my lips and tongue need to adjust to the different chemical composition. The resulting vape has less throat hit. As I am also satisfied with 1 ml of regular nic juice between 6 and 9 mg, I don't use the salt juice a lot any more. I have to say it is closer to smoking, but I had the same experience on my old ego stuff at 24 mgs.

You can buy nic salt in the same mg that you're using now

As the other members have already stated the only real difference between freebase and nic salts is throat hit.

I've never been a huge fan of throat hit and can barely stand 18mg freebase but can vape 50mg salts all day with no issues. 50mg might seem like a lot, but for me it's the difference between getting enough nic in a couple of puffs or sub ohming for 20 minutes.

I have also noticed that some of the DIY juices I have been mixing the same for years don't really taste the same when mixing with salts. I Still haven't figured out why yet, but I've only been using salts for about 2-3 months.

You can use nic salts at whatever concentration you want. Most are formulated to be smoother than freebase, but you can occasionally find nic salts that are supposed to be harsher. I have no idea how the process works, but I use 18 mg/ml in my MTL setups. My respiratory system was torn up when I got here, so it was just easier for me. I can vape freebase at that strength these days, no problem. I don't notice any other major differences other than throat hit.

IDK as far as your calculations but I will say, if you are using nic salts at the kind of concentrations as the Juul... .Well you are likely to consume less than you would be in a lower nic setup.

Whether that conversion will be exactly one to one, as far as conversion, I have no clue. The brain can adapt rather quickly to different nicotine strengths, not to mention the whole hand to mouth issue. You are gonna have to see. Etc.
