I've been vaping for just over a month. A few times I've had to smoke analogs because I found my supposedly charged batteries pooped out on me when I'm on the go. Before e-cigs, I couldn't go very long without a cigarette until I started hacking and coughing. Have a cig, stop coughing. Normal, right?

So I'm wondering why, after all this time without cigarettes, my lungs aren't trying to repair themselves. No cough, no hack, no nuthin'. I know I have one "collapsed" lung due to a bronchial infection several years ago. Could they be so far gone they won't even try to recover???

Has anyone else gone symptom-free when quitting cigs?

Me!! :)

Smoked a pack a day for 25 years and never once had a 'hacking up a lung' episode to show my lungs were 'clearing'.

But, that being said, I'm ALSO a Paramedic and not everyone 'expels' the nasty, a lot of people just re-absorb it. We got rid of it OTHER ways that weren't so obvious. But, it's clearing..

Ooh that do make me feel bettah! Still I wonder why I hacked so much before when I didn't have a cig. I guess it's all good though!

I just took a deeeeep breath (didn't think of that before) and it feels pretty darn good. I think I am able to breath a little deeper than before.

I think I was at the three or four month mark before I started coughing up junk but it's been a while and I can't remember specifically.

Yeah I shouldn't hold my breath (pun intended). My immune system could be running really slow. This is also good information, thank you! Something to look forward to (Not!) :D

I still have no coughing up junk either. It has been 2 months now.
I have only noticed that I have no wheezing anymore and can actually blow up baloons for parties without being winded. The wheezing only really started when they added the carpet glue(so I have read, thats what it is) to cigs to make them self extinguishing.

8 months here and i never did...

Over 13 months here and neither did I. I kept waiting to cough up the crud that other people described, and it just never happened for me. Smoked for 21 years too.

Yeah. It snuck up on me. My moment of realization was when I was walking the dogs up one particular hill that I always dreaded before because it almost always killed me. I got to the top and realized that I wasn't out of breath. I wasn't even remotely winded. Then I started paying more attention to my breathing and realized that... well... that I could breath. :D

I never have "Hacked up a Hair Ball" while I smoked or after I quit. But one thing that I have noticed is that my nasal passages seem to be much clearer.

My nasal passages are much clearer as well. When I was smoking I was constantly blowing my nose, people used to ask me if I had a cold all the time.

When I first started vaping and quit cigarettes, besides having congestion and a drippy nose, I also had a huge lump in my throat. I could even feel it draining. Not sure what that was about, but it did worry me. It did go away after about a month. I probably drowned it, LOL, as much water as I chugged all day every day.
