I'm fairly new to vaping (3 weeks or so) and as I've been browsing these forums I am seeing everyone talk about how they haven't touched an analog cig in X amount of time. Am I the only vaper that was not a regular smoker before trying out vaping?

I'm a fidgeter and vaping gives me something to do with my hands.

Yeah, I don't know many that didn't use tobacco of some kind. I wasn't much of a smoker, but I enjoyed Skoal... I chose to quit chewing about 2 months ago, but ended up picking up smoking. Nothing heavy, 4-6 cigs a day or so. I really didn't want to continue that habit, but really wasn't interested in giving up nicotine either. Then I found PVs. Got my first one 2.5 weeks ago and haven't looked back. I've spent more than I anticipated (3 models already lol), but I figure sooner or later I'll have them all so the cost should eventually drop off :)

At least you're not using nicotine. Good for you!

Yes, jynn, don't even try nicotine eliquid if you can. You do definitely not want a substance to control you. Just an advice.

Oh, I have no intentions of ever adding nicotine to my juice, seems silly to go and get myself addicted when I can already have all the parts I like without it.

You had that problem too? I went a bit overboard myself. :toast:
just don't start modding! that gets expensive quick, that and every damn thing you see in a store gives you a new idea. I drive the wife nuts when I grab something completely random and start examining it. She knows......

*puts up hand*

I wasn't a smoker to begin with. I would accept the occasional analog in social situations, and I've always loved the nicotine, but i've never been addicted to it - I just didn't pick up smoking due to health concerns.

Now I'm on my first week with ecigs and I love it. I'm less stressed and generally happier, like i said - I love nicotine.

jynn, if I were you I'd go & find another hobby... this is a forum of nicotine addicts (99% of us I believe). Ecigs are cure and fun, not the other way around. Hope you don't find my comments condescending.

cheers

+1

Ok, let me just preface by saying that since you're well into it already, welcome to ecf.

However, if you were considering vaping, I would not be too polite, as I have not been in the past in these cases...simply because every former smoker in the vaping community have so much to lose. The fact is that the antis patrol this forum regularly, looking for things to use against us in their quest for banning e-cigs. One of the main reasons is that e-cigs will be used for recreational purposes and not as an alternative to smoking. For almost all of us who have been killing ourselves slowly with cigarettes, e-cigs have been an absolute god-send. So please forgive us if we try to lead you away from it.

It's just the harsh reality of the precarious status of e-cigs politically right now.

I can totally understand the concern Shaka,

To help prevent any "antis" from using me as an example for their cause, let me elaborate on my situation:

I was not 100% non smoking previously, I just was not addicted. I smoked analogs in social situations such as parties, or while out drinking and usually pick up a pack before long car rides (30 mins+) to have something to do while driving/sitting in a car. I did not/do not like the taste of cigarettes, or the effect of nicotine. I have an anxiety disorder and having something to occupy my hands prevents me from subconsciously twisting and pulling at my hands and skin or shredding/destroying whatever poor object makes its way into my hands when I get nervous. (politely described as being a "fidgeter" in my original post)

The e-cigs are a HUGE improvement, no health risk or 2nd hand smoke for others, no foul odor, no risk of chemical dependency, no wasted nearly full packs of analog cigs that went stale before I got around to them, and no safety hazard from trying to light a cigarette while driving, but still all the therapeutic benefits that smoking has for me.

Most of you started vaping to end a dependency on analog cigs, I started vaping to avoid developing one :D

Jynn,

I hope I didn't offend you, but I trust you know where I was coming from. It's comforting to know that there are other issues that vaping has help you with. Again, I extend my welcome to you and truly say glad to have you aboard.

In my short time here, I've seen a couple of new members who never smoked seeking advice on hardware and juices. It should not/must not be our position to welcome them and advise these people who sucked nothing but air into their lungs on what juices to suck into their lungs and what hardware to suck it with. Even a stern warning against nicotine use doesn't justify giving them assistance and advice.

If other members should disagree on this, then I'll just have to agree to disagree because this is something I feel very strongly about.

Mahalo!

I'm smoking analogs only when drinking :) Normally I'm using snus...so I can't really say I'm smoker.

The reason for e-cigs....I like the habit...blowing smoke etc....and I want to quit snus because it's very dangerous as well. I hope I can get rid of drunk smoking too....I'm a chain smoker when drinking...1 beer, 3 cigarettes...not good. I ordered Tornado E-NI and going to try that next time I'm drinking. I get terrible hangovers because of analogs.

this is a forum of nicotine addicts (99% of us I believe).

Funny, I thought this was the "Electronic Cigarette Forum" not the "Nicotine Addicts Forum". I totally understand warning people off of using nicotine who are not already addicted but without the nic these things are harmless. As far as I know PG,VG and flavorings are quite benign.
I hate to sort of disagree with you for the first time Shaka but I don't believe that this subject gives the antis arguments any more teeth at all. The number of non addicts that vape is almost as low as the number of pre-filled Chinese carts that can be found with Diethylene Glycol in them.
As I stated in another thread, I believe that a legal ban of ecigs is going to be impossible due to the fact that every single part of the practice of vaping is legal and widely used in other industries. Nicotine is the primary component of the products sold by the major opponents of ecigs so they won't ban nicotine. What else can they ban? Batteries? Switches? Electric wire? PG? VG?
I don't think we should become complacent in the defense of vaping but I just don't see how we can lose this thing.
