Ok, let me just preface by saying that since you're well into it already, welcome to ecf.

However, if you were considering vaping, I would not be too polite, as I have not been in the past in these cases...simply because every former smoker in the vaping community have so much to lose. The fact is that the antis patrol this forum regularly, looking for things to use against us in their quest for banning e-cigs. One of the main reasons is that e-cigs will be used for recreational purposes and not as an alternative to smoking. For almost all of us who have been killing ourselves slowly with cigarettes, e-cigs have been an absolute god-send. So please forgive us if we try to lead you away from it.

It's just the harsh reality of the precarious status of e-cigs politically right now.

How well put and i couldn't agree with this and your following comments more. When I started here almost everyone here was a hardcore smoker trying to find an alternative that wouldn't end up harming their health. Many of us viewed vaping as a blessing that would probably save their life. It was in my case.

I would never advise a nonsmoker to start myself. And as Shaka says so well the antis are more than happy to point out that people who never smoked are using it for recreational purposes. I wish I could agree that a ban is next to impossible but I don't.

Hi, do yourself a favor and find something else to do. Vaping to me is for SMOKERS to find a more healthy alternative. I read some where that even the no nic juices have a trace of nicotene in them. Nicotene is still bad for you(hardens the arteries) but the smoke from a burning cigarette is a LOT worse. Don' take a chance and become an addict!:2c:

I'm smoking analogs only when drinking :) Normally I'm using snus...so I can't really say I'm smoker.

You're a nic addict and ecf is your home.

I guess the term "smoker" is a like a catch-all for people addicted to nicotine, whether you smoke, dip, or use snus. My son is a hardcore snuff dipper, and I've been trying to get him to vape instead, and he's starting to come around (I learned from a member that dipping is way harder to quit than smoking, btw). So you had a very valid reason to start vaping.

...I hate to sort of disagree with you for the first time Shaka...

Point well taken Mist. I've always enjoyed your posts, but hey, its inevitable that at some point we gotta disagree, right? LOL And as long it's constructive, it's healthy.

I can see where you're coming from and truly respect your position. What drove the point home for me was a little while back a new member, non-smoker, seemed young, wanted to take up vaping because he thought e-cigs were cool. Political agendas notwithstanding, I believe it is improper intrinsically to advise and assist someone like this to take up vaping. So that really is the basis for my position. BTW Domino lowered the boom in this case.

How well put and i couldn't agree with this and your following comments more.

Thanks Zelda, means a lot. And I forgive you and all the other veterans for ganging up on me when I wanted a sticky in this forum. LOL I joke, I kid! That was a learning experience for me!

Ok new to this, my 2cents
If one of my kids wanted to start vaping when they were not a nicotine addict I would discourage them for the following reasons :
-most kits you order come with pre-filled carts, an inexperienced to nicotine person may not realize and get hooked trying out their new machine
- E-liquids still don't have to write everything that's in them, so there is no way to tell if a company may be sneaking small amounts of nic into their 0mg juices to get people to reorder from them entirely or mixing with same tools used to mix nic level juices and cross contaminating by accident
- no long term studies have been done on vaping, yes for us previously addicted to analogs it has got to be better than the 4000 plus chemicals we used to be inhaling but to go from 0 chemicals to who really knows hmmm maybe not the wisest decision

However let me say that as an adult only you know what the best decisions are for yourself who am I to tell you that your wrong?
Exactly its not up to me to tell you! I just don't want someone to inadvertently become a slave to nicotine like I am!

I'm glad I'm not alone in the spending like a fool. I swear there for a couple of weeks I was out of control. Hopefully that will level off now that I have various models to try and a nice assortment of juice.

I for one am so grateful to have quit regular cigs. I had tried every way possible over the years. The most time I ever got was 3 months. For me vaping is a lifesaver. I also turned my sister and her husband on to it and they are doing great with it.

I agree that if it becomes a recreational pastime for people that never smoked or weren't addicted to nicotine that could be a problem. But in Jynn's case she has a valid reason for it.

Okay, let me shake this thread up a bit. Many of us have lost weight since starting to vape. I know that I've dropped a few pounds, even though I really didn't need to. The flavors (especially the sweet ones) satisfy me in ways that I use to be satisfied only by snacking. So, my best friend, who has been struggling to loose weight since she hit 40, ask if I thought that e-cigs would help her loose weight. She has been an ex-smoker for 20 years. I didn't know what to say, I had to tell her truthfully that it might, but that vaping, even without nicotine, was an addiction. She said that she was already addicted to food, so what was the difference? What would you all have said to her?

just don't start modding! that gets expensive quick, that and every damn thing you see in a store gives you a new idea. I drive the wife nuts when I grab something completely random and start examining it. She knows......

In my case it's HE KNOWS. He kind of cringes because he does most of the mod building.
Basically when he is on a mission for me, he hangs out here (we share jj2). He probably is on enough some people probably think I've got a double personality.

I would have told her that vaping to lose weight is a very unhealthy way to lose it and she just needs to do it the healthier way like everyone else. Proper diet and exercise.

I haven't smoked in almost 10 years but started again with ecigs. Funny, I found that the nicotine had a very mild effect so I ordered the high nicotine ecigs. I've been using them constantly and don't care if I get hooked since, now, I find the sensations very pleasant. I'm not even sure if I could get hooked, has anyone found out if that's possible?

I still feel like a newbie compared to some of the veterans here. (When did I gang up on you - must have been my belligerent phase)

I think the habit of smoking involves not only the nicotine but the act of smoking. And it can become a habit almost impossible to break after time. It is both a chemical and psychological dependency.

When someone young comes on and wants to take up vaping(whether they smoke or not) honestly I'd advise them quit while you can. What seems a fun hobby at 20 isn't fun at all 20 years later when you realize your hobby has become a lifelong addiction.

I have a friend that asked this some thing of me. I told her that while I fully believe that vaping is better than smoking, the ideal is to not inhale anything into our lungs. We don't know the long-term effects of inhaling this stuff, and I wouldn't advise it unless it was to quit doing something even more harmful. Whether her extra 30-40 pounds is more harmful, I don't know. I also told her that she's a grown up, she has to make these decisions.
