With Thanksgiving being over a few hours ago thought I might pass this on. Little background so bare with me. My dad's sinuses/allergies have been sensitive to cigarette smoke for as long as I can remember. Not just smoke sets them off but stuff like perfume/after shave. With the perfume/after shave the "little dab will do ya" is OK. Being in my 40's now I have gotten the same way, grew into my allergies instead of having them as a kid. Plus smoking has bothered my step mother ever since I met her back in the early 80's.... Neither one of them would seriously harp on me about smoking except for an occasional comment about not liking it.

Anyway was down their place for Thanksgiving. My car has a problem and didn't want to try my luck with a 120mile round trip. My father has an engineering background, so on the way down brought up the e-cig. Talking about battery life and such.

My step mother was having problems trying to print something on her computer so I was trying to figure it out. Asked her if I could vape and explaining that it didn't burn anything or smell. So rest of the night I was allowed to vape in their condo :)

On the way home was a little bit chilly, not as cold as it usually is in Northern Ohio in late November. Force of habit from smoking I cracked the window (would have never even asked to smoke in the car with my dad when I did smoke). Plus when I vape in my car it tends to fog the windows up. So my dad ends up saying that he couldn't smell anything and the cold was bothering him.

Great story! So far everyone in my close circle of family and friends have embraced my ecigarette habit with happiness lol! Pretty much all are ex smokers or never smoked. Even my smoking friends (who are getting more rare) don't give me a hard time as long as I don't give them a hard time I think we can all co exist together. The only issues I have is with ignorant strangers who somehow think my vape is going to harm them or it's stupid to pretend to smoke lol. I don't give a rats because my loved ones and friends accept it. I wish more of my smoking buddies would try it for themselves.

Last cigarette 16th October, 2011. Forever grateful for the support and advice from ECF.

My step-mom's mother is an ex smoker (if I remember right), my step mom and my dad never smoked.

I think I mentioned that my dad wouldn't harp on me about smoking but once in a while would just say something to the effect of "you're smart enough to know that smoking is killing you, look at what it did to both your grandfathers".

My father and I don't see eye to eye on politics. We did agree that the folks who are trying to hold back e-cigs are "health nazis". The same type of people who if they had their way would make it so you couldn't get fatty foods, salty foods or sugary food. An e-cig lets someone get their nicotine with less risks than a cigarette/cigar/pipe and without having to gunk up the air of people around them. For me that's a win win situation.

I was talking with another volunteer when I went out to help the critters over the weekend. Ex smokers seem to be the most militant anti-smokers. She was actually asking questions about them.

Sort of seems to be the way, at least for me, that people have more questions than are jumping down my throat. :)

My parents are militant non-smokers - they never smoked - and my mother is allergic to pretty much everything. I wasn't allowed to smoke on their property, let alone their house. The one time I brought a cigarette .... in and threw it in their kitchen trash can, my mother walked into the kitchen, sniffed, and asked if I'd brought a cigarette .... into the house. I sheepishly dug it out and took it outside to throw away.

But I vape anywhere I want to. They love that I've given up cigarettes.

Not having to go outside to get a nic fix is a bonus, especially up north here where it gets cold and snowy.

*lol* my concession is that it might not be healthy but it is more healthy than smoking and I'm not clouding up the air with second hand smoke.

Guy who owns the laundromat I go to smokes a pipe (pipe smoke always reminds me of my grandfather). When I go next time will ask him if I can vape in there. Big part of being accepted I think is going to be asking folks before hand (explaining if they don't know about vaping) and being courteous/respectful.

My parents are both smokers, and yet are somewhat resistant to the ecig. We traveled together on a five hour drive and they were also very perturbed at how much more I use it than i smoked cigarettes.

I am glad your parents are being supportive.
Yeah thats typical with confirmed smokers, they always find fault with e-cigs.

I use my VP more often than I would have lit up an analog. At the same time though I'll take a few drags and put it down. I will chain vape at times though.

Makes me wonder what the average drags on a cig (plus time in between analogs) is versus the drags on a PV (plus time in between is).... sure both vary person to person and nicotine levels.
