Katie had this house changed from oil to natural gas quite a few years ago, and replaced the radiators with the baseboard strips that cover the copper heat and return water pipes. With heat strips running along 3 of the four walls in my room, I have to have a window open or it gets too hot for me. I keep my door closed so that I don't cool down any of the rest of the house.

Thanks for the heads up on the heads up Nick !!!!!!!!!!! I'll be ready!!!

Heat wise I have an electric furnace....Pretty sure it works fine....I use propane logs and a Mr. Heater Big Buddy...I love the BB so much I have two...One running daily and one for the beach or in case Mom loses heat...Yeah I got it hooked too a grill tank sitting smack dab in the middle of the dining room....Heat first....safety third....

Tracy, I have an oil furnace, but I only use it overnight. During the day, I heat the house with several electric space heaters. They aren't cheap to run, but the cost is about 1/3 of the cost of using oil and they do a very nice job in keeping the house warm.

Really Jerry? I've thought about using electric heaters but was worried about the cost. What I pay per month in oil is ridiculous....and I pay all 12 months. Plthhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!~ Maybe I'll have to try switching it up some. Thanks!

Good morning, Refugeepeeps. :)

Yes really, Tracy. I use 4 electric heaters, one in the kitchen, one in the living room, one in the bathroom and one in the sun parlor. I also have one in the basement and one in my bedroom, but those two are only on, when I'm in those rooms. It costs me about $125 a month to run them, which is a heck of a lot cheaper than oil. They are on 12-15 hours during the day. My oil usage is cut by more than half, closer to 2/3.

Tracy, there are many different types of electric heaters and the costs range from $20 to over $100, depending on what you get. The ones I use cost around $30. Do some research and find out which ones are best for your needs. This link may help you.

Oh and it's best and safer to plug them directly into an outlet. If you need to use an extension cord, don't use anything that's rated less than this:

Rated at 1875 watts, minimum.

Jerry is correct...All my drop cords are heavy duty...

Late last night on the bedtime nature call we had near disaster...Spike was quiet eager too go out...I figured he just needed out....He had heard two racoons in the yard and went at them full speed ahead...The coons were on the other side of the boat and out of my sight...I figured it was just another phantom until Spike yelped...that's when the flashlight caught eyes heading up a tree...Not sure if contact was ever made as Spike was uninjured...Either of the coons could have easily killed Spike...They did scare the sheet outta him...Earlier I'd heard two owls hooting back and fourth and a pack of coyotes were also yelping...Looks like I'll be policing the area prior too nature calls from now on....
