Oil change complete! Flush and fill on the coolant system and ac recharged. (Or whatever they do)
My car had head gasket issues almost 3 years ago and the mechanic told me every 2-3 years to flush and fill. This is the first I've done it. This place suspects there's still an issue bc their machine was having difficulty doing it. He explained it should work like a vacuum and suspect a small leak.

ElDee please advise if you get a chance. Wth does that mean? What issues should I look out for and most importantly does this likely mean I'll be looking at car payments in the near future? Ugh!

Just keep an eye on your temperature gauge Tracy. If you have a small leak in your coolant system, it would likely be a radiator hose that needs replacing...not too expensive. If you had a leak in your radiator you'd likely have been noticing water puddling under your car. Long shot might be the water pump.

Not sure what the old mechanic was talking about on the head gasket...that would leak oil, not water/coolant.

And thanks for reminding me (again) that I need to take my car for the same services :)

Yeah Bov.....You missed that one...Coolant circulates around the cylinders in an attempt too keep them cool....It definitely passes thru the head gasket...First you must observe the coolant level when cold....get it good and hot and then observe it again...keep a hawk eye on the cold level...also check where it's parked...Should it be losing coolant and none was observed under the car smell the exhaust for a sweet anti-freeze smell....I can smell it a mile away...matter fact last night when I got in from the beach I whiffed the grill and the gap between the fenders and hood...thought I caught a whiff of burning oil....Twas a negative...Also observe the exhaust for water dripping or steam....steam is OK if it's cold out as a hot muffler forms condensation when rapidly cooled in cold temps..You can also remove the radiator cap and look for bubbles in the tank when the engine is running....I run a product called Bars Leak in all my rides...it stops leaks and more importantly lubricates the water pump...there are also corrosion inhibitors...whenever you add water either used distilled or the 50/50 blend anti-freeze...minerals from tap will fekk your sheet right on up...

I gather much from the diagnosis....there should be a vacuum....Bullsheet...Vacuum must be mechanically applied...I've seen the coolant machines...never one that draws a vacuum...I prefer to spend the time and fill the system the good old fashioned way..That also gives me time to listen to the engine run...ACs are another story as you gotta pull a good strong vacuum on them...Being the mechanic called out the head gaskets makes me doubt him....well actually I think he was upselling...there are a ton of places for anti-freeze to leak besides the head gaskets...Keep a check on the level..It may drop a little in the first week...that would be normal as I often add a little after about a week of running...I'd check into the Bars leak and it should be readily available at any auto parts and maybe Wally's Wurld...Should the head gaskets be leaking I'd likely trade it in...I doubt they are but it's possible...

Got my crown molding up....saw my limb cutting neighbor and was happy when she ignored me...Got the bluish purple ankle from Hell...Resting wasn't in the cards so I hobbled on...I've cut almost 5 acres of grass the last two days.....it's growing already....No damage from an almost direct hit from Ana...It hit a little South but that puts us in the highest wind zone...The ditches down East look like lakes...but all was good...The tide wasn't right for the shark teeth...When low tide arrived I was beat so I'll just try again next time...the bath will be complete with a finalization of the paint line between the baseboard and wall....a mirror....some towel hanging thingys and maybe a shelf for my stuff...I'm sure something else will crop up....let's hope it's an easy fix.........

Thanks so much ElDee! I will be referring to this post often in the near future and watching for the things you said.
They scared the sheet out of me! The car needs brakes and rotors and back tires next but I'm not doing any of it for awhile until I know the heads are good, or at least aren't giving me issues.

Take care of that ankle. I love me some purple as we all know, but not on any of my friends skin...unless it's ink!

No ice for me!! I know I should but I don't...This getting old sheet......Dangitt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Different cars got different "known" problems...Rangers like to leak anti-freeze thru the intake gasket...older Toyota V-6s are known too have problematic head gaskets..One can also inspect the spark plugs looking for one to be unusually clean...A/F in the combustion chamber cleans everything...Not suggesting that unless Bo knows mechanics....The A/F level tells all...Last Bars Leak I purchased was in a silver bottle...GM at one time added BL too every vehicle built...

The great BB King has passed...I saw him play a set from 10 feet away once...I had the black with silver skript Led Zeppelin shirt on....about 3/4 thru the set BB threw down the opening to Zep's HeartBreaker...Just another memory from the book of Dee....RIP BB.......

Hey, maybe you could help us. DH needs a drivers side fuel injector rail for his 1996 Dodge Ram pick up. Brand new from dealer they are close to $500. Parts stores don't have them that he checked with. No way will he pay that much. Any idea where he may be able to pick one up for less other than a junk yard?

BTW- That truck has less than 60,000 actual miles

Tracy, I hear you about not wanting a car payment. We drive our vehicles until they just won't go too. I drove my last car ( Mitsubishi) well over 150,000 miles. One of the rear doors actually got to where it would not stay closed and I had to use a ratchet type bungi cord to hold it shut. I finally traded it is and the darn thing still ran like a dream.

Heard about BB :(

I drive mine till the wheels come off too  Went and got my oil changed after I took Katie to her hair appt. All fluids checked fine. My 2003 Hyundai Accent is soon to roll over 69k miles. Can ya tell I don't drive much?

Got a call from my SSI case worker this morning. They have set up 2 Dr. appts for me in June, and will even provide transportation to and from. We'll see where it goes from there. At least I know I haven't been denied yet.

I'd bust up on E bay and look for that fuel rail....I know where a couple of Dodge trucks are sitting in local yards...Should be an easy score at your local pic a part...

101% of the time I try and plug in a mini usb the dang thing is upside down...101%
