For once since Fran, I'm keeping my eyes on the local weather. Fran was downright scary!

LD and Salem, I hope neither of you sustain any damage.

We will be okay, Lynn. We are about 200 miles inland now. My son and grandson are still in Charleston on the coast though. My son will evacuate here with my grandson. He was only 9 years old when we took a direct hit from Hugo in Charleston which was a strong Cat 4 hurricane but, he remembers it all too well. We did not evacuate for it and that was a huge mistake. Our house was destroyed with us in it. None of us will ever ride another one out. You can bet on that ;)

They have already closed all of the schools down for the rest of the week in the Charleston Tri County area. My son tells me everyone is going nuts down there. Rightly so. One of the major things that I do not miss about living there.

Oh man...I'm not liking this Matthew one bit! I hope they are wrong and he takes a nose dive out to sea.

Make sure to check in when you all can, after it's over.

That would be very nice, Tracy. Normally when they start closing schools and public offices, it is not a good sign at all.

Last I heard the forecast remains the same......Making landfall just South of the beach crib is the worst possible scenario....The worst winds will be at or near my place.....Job 1 at this point is survival.....by far not my first rodeo but right now I'm not liking what I'm seeing.......

New track takes Matthew much closer to Florida and then riding up the coastline.....How they figure it's gonna make that turn at Savannah I'm not sure....Much better news for us....Now if it turns and follows the coastline after passing Hatteras I'm gonna get suspicious....Riding by off shore isn't pleasant but one Hell of alot better than earlier reported....Let's hope for even better news as the storm approaches....

I saw Hugo approaching the US from the parking lot of the Boot Hill Saloon in Daytona.....Supposed to hit Florida....On my honeymoon at the time we went North to Santee Cooper...It came ashore at the Isle of Palms SC and cut a swath too Santee....I was already in Fayetteville and it went between Fayetteville and Charlotte...I was pretty sure Hugo had a bead on me.....

Couple of years after we got the house at the beach Dad passed...Put me square in charge of everything that he had been taking care of....Bertha hit us head on....I'd be damned if I was gonna sit by and let a Hurricane fekk everything up so I stayed there.....So there I was in a single wide trailer with a hurricane raging...That thing was shaking like a car with a bad outta balance tire....I even went outside when the eye of Bertha passed directly overhead....Fran came about two months past Bertha...I was sitting 1/2 way down there waiting on Fran to pass when the Jacksonville radio tower went to the ground....Had to stop twice on my way in to cut trees from the road....Trust I got that big old Dodge full of fuel and waiting......

Good morning, all.

Things are looking much better now :)

The projected path shows Matthew as a Category 4 storm when it skims past South Florida, weakening slightly to a Category 2 off the coast near Jacksonville and making landfall north of Charleston Friday night into Saturday as a Category 2.

Lynne, so many people were not prepared for the damage that a Cat 4 hurricane could do when Hugo hit. It was the first to hit the US in a very long time.

I honestly have never been so afraid in my life as I was that night. Truly thought that we were all going to die.

Good day, everyone!

Hopefully the weather will wander out into the Atlantic, leave everyone safe and sound.

I've been busy lately, taking V whenever I can to finish some camp chores. Just a little more roof coating to apply (hopefully today), and I'm adding in some plus-up support rafters in the old bunkhouse (the place I use as a workshop, and DW has dibs on one of the room for arts and crafty stuff). This weekend will be time to pull the boat/raft, take in some in-water marker floats (so they don't get pulled out by the ice this winter), and hopefully put in a new window in the utility room (old one had a broken mechanism, we've just kept it covered -- I'm looking forward to more light and air in that room, it's the man cave in the main camp house).

New forecast has Matthew riding up the coast and curving out just as it gets here.....That's more than relief.....I was feeling some anxiety....Not out of the woods but much better than yesterday....Still preparing for the worst...

Just saw the brother of the Therion a mod called the Skar.....18650 or 26650.....Looks great to me....Pretty sure they rushed a Therion squonker.....I know there's a better design for that and hope they are working on it....I find mods with 26650 to be a little more bulky than I like....Battery life is great though...

SDNA has rotated into my all-day slot, Cloupor mini+ retired for now. I still have a couple of the mini+ NIB if someone needs one for PIF.

I've got a TW Odyssey 18650M coming, should be here in a couple days. $28 delivered via Alibaba (turns out it's actually from Heaven Gifts, but Alibaba pricing was much better than HG's web site).

Keep an eye out for CC theft -- had to shut off my online-use-only card this past week, get a new one reissued. That card gets used pretty rarely, but still a PITA to change things :)

Ugh! It's happened to two debits and a cc card twice in the last year to me Mark. No fun at all and an inconvenience to say the least! If I could get my hands on those theives. Grinds my gears for sure!!!!

Sorry it happened to you as well. :(

Been out battening the hatches....Checking the forecast.....Looking worse for Florida but better for us.....Better is good.......I got a cousin in Palm Beach....Just read where he was bragging on his storm shutters and such....His first hurricane....Shutters are nice and all but that ain't gonna do sheet about keeping the roof on....My bet is this will be his last hurricane....I'd be hauling azz right on up outta there.....

If I see one more family sacrificing their vacation due too the hurricane I'm gonna shoot the TV.....

Yep, much better forecast for us, and hopefully it holds true for the Carolinas. LOL @ your cousin in Fl!

I've been keeping my eye on the Skar, Dee. Pretty sure one will end up finding a new home with me. I have no interest in the squonker.

Six week check in with my tatt artist today, he did some shading / highlighting to make the lotus pop more. No charge on it, he just wants his work to look it's best.
