Well said, Bov!

My mom raised 3 girls alone back when single parent households were unheard of. We got food stamps. Back then it was still the paper that looked like bills but were bright yellow or something close. I remember being so embarrassed to be seen using them.

My mom worked her azz off and did the best she could though.

There is no shame in asking for help when you really need it.

Hubs was on medicaid and I did add myself to the application so I have it also.Haven't looked into the food stamps as yet.I do have free oil for my furnace and a reduced electric bill.

That’s awesome, Fran. Thanks for sharing that with us. Now we will worry less about you:wub:

I'm so glad to hear that, Fran! It all helps, and heating oil is a huge burden lifted for you I'm sure.

This year I will be able to file for a homestead exemption on my property taxes since I'm on disability. It will exempt the first $50k of home value from taxes, and for me that means I'll only owe the minimum allowed amount of $75 a year.

My taxes are $3000 a year, payable every 6 months.Help is offered for that from the town but it comes with a lien on your property and I'm not sure I want to do that. I'm not sure that I want to spend another winter here. Lots to think about.

Fran, where would you go if you left there? Is all of your family there?

Maybe you could talk (some of) them into heading south with you. There are some areas down here where the summers aren’t scalding hot. The area that I just moved from was not that bad in summer. I was in the foothills there.

I know that property taxes are high up there. One of the reasons that many people from the north decide to move south.

When I said I didn't want to spend another winter here,I didn't mean NH. I meant right here where I live. I'm a mile and a half off the main highway and the roads are often crappy/slippery. I am north of everyone and at a higher altitude. It is colder here/more snow etc. My daughter (youngest) has been coming up to get me most Fridays after work to spend the weekend and brings me home Sunday. My daughter's car is not 4wd so having her come up here on crappy roads is not an option.

Lol I’m sorry “Bob”! These things happen when I don’t put on my glasses. My bad!

Sorry for not posting more often, but so much going on.
Middle dd said yes to the dress two weekends ago (yay!) and she will be done with college in May and she and fiancé were just approved to rent a very expensive (to me) townhouse. They will sign papers this Thursday and commit themselves to a years lease....can’t help it but I’m worried. I’ve never paid so much in my life for rent or a mortgage and if they get in a bind, it’ll be beyond my ability to help.
I would feel better about it if they were farther along in their careers but that is not the case. He is only “weeks” into a new job, and she’s still in school with a minimal paying job. Ugh

I want to lock her in her room!!!! Lol

I don't blame you for being worried. I hope it works out for them.

Fran, I’m thinking of you and don’t blame ya one bit for being concerned at your current location.
Maybe you can move closer to one of your kids!
My GD Heather loves this house and she wants to rent it. At present she lives in the next little town from me and has a horrid driveway. That would give me the option of renting something decent low income. Another option is my youngest daughter wants me to move in with her and has a downstairs bedroom I've been using on weekends. I'm not sure yet if I want to sell but that's an option also. It's a long time before NEXT winter approaches so I have plenty of time to consider my options.I just know I have to either sell or rent because I can't even afford the taxes here on 667. a month

It is a lot to think about, Fran and my heart goes out to you. I understand not wanting to have a lien against the property in exchange for tax help. The taxes on Katie's house were that much too, plus I wanted some good distance between the ex and me. Renting to Heather, and moving in with your daughter might give you some extra time to decide what you want to do, and what options you have.

Tracy, you're a Mama...you are always going to worry! I'm super happy for middle dd and her soon to be hubby, but yeah, hoping they aren't getting in over their heads too soon on the new place!

Dee, don't forget that we'll all be with you tomorrow! It may sound like mushy girl talk, but you know I tell it like it is!! One thing that echo will show you tomorrow is how much love we all pour into your heart...every single day  Moon and Pokey also send their love and thoughts to you as well.

    Thanks Bov !!!

908....I hope it all works out....

Same to you Fran.....I hope it all works out....

Since this whole ordeal started I've had a kazillion thoughts through my head....My dad died of a widow maker at 63.....I'm 59....My Granny lived to be 98....I was always her favorite outta many Grands....Why??? I was the first with her red hair...Hoping to Hell and back I got her heart genes...12 hours and counting....Sleep is likely gonna be difficult and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared.....Truth is there's been many times I've been scared on this journey....So far I've fought every time and that's what I'll do tomorrow....Wish me luck.....I'm going in....Dee
