Your very welcome. #3 is not doing well?

Nope! That one was in a different spot and I am thinking Miss Maddie might have been plucking its leaves!!! **insert eye roll here**

I am so happy with each new little leaf that emerges from its center. I’m really anxious to see if it reblooms. Just leaves now for months, but I suppose it’s resting!

I too have heard that Keto is not recommended for long term. I can tell you from experience though, it seriously takes weight off!
Both my daughter and I have lost the weight that we so desperately wanted to lose. 40 lbs for me and 35 for her. I’m 8 months in and maintaining has been pretty easy; although not for everyone and I completely understand.
I am a picker and my choices were chock full of carbs and sugar. I never would’ve imagined that I could adapt to this way of eating, but I have. Do I cheat now that I’ve reached my goal?....let’s just say that there’s a bag of strawberry twizzlers that hops into my cart almost every week!
The kidney issue is concerning for sure.
A lot of people like paleo too and some switch to that after keto.
I still need to get that Ceylon cinnamon AND turmeric curcumin blend.
I learn so much info here and appreciate all opinions always!

I have a differing opinion on Keto diets. I know first hand that they do work for me. Of course I do incorporate some complex high fiber carbs into my diet.

My research has shown me that Ketosis is not an issue for the kidneys unless you already have kidney issues. I think that is some cases people confuse ketosis with Ketoacidosis ( mostly in diabetics) that actually can be harmful to the kidneys. Here is just one place that I am able to quickly locate at the moment for your perusal
    https://perfectketo.com/ketosis-kidney/

Anyway, being overweight and/or being diabetic can be much more harmful to our organs and body. The way that I look at is that if it works and you feel better doing it, go for it. Our bodies are pretty good at letting us know when something is not good for us.

Now we do not eat food that is very high in fats. But we do maintain high protein/ high fiber diet.

Here is a fact that I learned in a nutrition class. If we fail to feed our bodies the amount of protein that they require, it will leach proteins from other sources such as muscle.

There is my 2 cents for today :)

No matter what it is....Keto....vaping....whatever....there's always gonna be the naysayers...I had some Hella testing on my liver and kidneys when I had the Hepatitis....Just had kidney function tested 2 weeks ago....I've been in ketosis aplenty....The only numbers I had out of the standard range were the LDLs....The standard range is like the dang Holy Grail....So if ketosis is bad for your kidneys...well......Mine missed the memo.....Now I'm faced with needing to lose a few pounds and some LDL numbers as well...Just another day.....

I definitely feel MUCH better, and in ways I never expected to. My plantar fasciitis just disappeared, poof! My skin is clearer, sciatica hasn’t bothered me in months, I no longer feel that mid day slump, and brain fog is much better too.
Now the buggers of this are having to buy new clothes bc your old ones now look ridiculous, rings have to be resized or worn with ring guards. I’ve been using ring guards and probably will for awhile. I’m truly not a clothes shopping kind of girl so although I’m happy for the weight loss, I would rather know a really good seamstress than to have to go clothes shopping!

Salem, you are much better at explaining ketosis vs ketoacidosis than I will ever be! :)

The key points here are if you are feeling better, and your blood work is good, I'm glad it's working for you. No argument there....none :) I am acquainted with ketoacidosis, I was there when I was dx'd T2D.

Salem, I'm glad you have the tooth pulling behind you, and even happier that you aren't experiencing much swelling and discomfort!

Thanks, Bov. Now if I could just get used to having a foreign object in my mouth and learn to talk right with it, all will be good.

Tracy, excellent points about not getting tired and the brain fog clearing up. Once you do Keto and then slip up and eat a sugar laden, starchy carb you really do take note of how tired and foggy they make you feel. All within minutes of consuming them. Not a good feeling at all.

Salem here's hoping an easy transition with the new dentures....Sounds painful I hope it's not....

I've seen a CT scan comparison of a brain lit by ....... and then sugar....Sugar had much more effect on the brain....Hence the crash and fog associated....Dang if I couldn't go for a donut though....

I have been on protein shakes and water for the last three days. A donut sounds like the bomb right now.

It is only the top denture and really not as bad as I thought. I may have mentioned here before how bad the medical care was in the upstate? Well, dental care was just as bad.

I kept up with cleanings religiously. Brushed and flossed at least once per day. I had gorgeous crowns on almost every upper tooth. The issues were underneath those crowns and never noticed by my previous dentist. So, here I sit with all of my upper teeth gone.

On a good note my bottom teeth all seem to be in good shape. Upper dentures are t bad but the lowers cause problems. We do t have a ridge on bottom to hold it in place.

My dentist here did an excellent job on the upper.

Dang....I've been in Upstate SC quiet a bit....I woulda thought they had pretty good medical and dental care...But I was just breezing through....My Dodge dually came from the shadows of Glassy Mountain just outside Pickens, SC....

I planned on letting the Doc's nurse change my Amlodipine to Wallace's World aka Wal-Mart....Well the Doc did it actually.....I recorded some BPs for the Doc and she upped my script to a 90 day supply....That promptly had me beechin' at Wallace's as I thought there was 30 pills in the bottle....Hey I went over there and made damn sure 30 pills were $4....So Wallace's was nice enough to fill my bottle with 90 Amlodipine for $10 bucks even...I added another $9 on some Honey Crisp Apples.....Diet wise....I gotta drop those LDL #s but not really to concerned with actual weight.....Not going full on Keto....I got the apples and some cashews/walnuts/almonds....sometimes I get that heart healthy mix with a blend of nuts/raisins/dark chocolate bits....Something in the dark chocolate was really good for you as well...The exact benefit is lost to me atm but I know it's good for you....On a side note I saw where keto diet and stepping on toes was mentioned....I say a lot....Pretty sure it wasn't me but if it was I didn't mean to step on any toes....Like I said pretty sure it wasn't me but just clearing that up....Now I gotta check and see if I'm covered at the UNC Dental School....Pretty sure I am....My teeth are pretty good but I've not seen a dentist in a dang long time....Likely 10 years

Nobody’s toes were stepped on that I am aware of. I was offended by none!
After all, y’all are the only bunch to ever get away with calling me a buzzard! ;)

Salem, dentures will definitely be in my future as I have had one root canal and never will I ever do that again! The sucker broke off at gum level and had to be dug out by an oral surgeon. No thanks, never again. I am sure your teeth are beautiful and you will be speaking like yourself in no time!

Bov, hows miss Bella?!?? We are getting some warmer days up here (64 today!) and I thought of you and Bella outside enjoying it. Sure hope you were!

ElDee, donuts do sound good!!! My weakness was/is ice cream. I indulge in Halo Top brand these days. Their vanilla bean and their strawberry are my favorites. I’m so glad you’re getting things sorted and Wally World hooked you up with a 90 day supply of meds. Less running the better.

Hello to wharf and mark and jerry and Fran too! I hope you all are enjoying the warmer temps!

Friday is coming at us friends, and I am so happy the weekend is almost here. It’s been a busy week both at work and home. Some r&r is what I’m looking for. Bring it!

    Thanks Tracy !!!...

Right now my follow up is still Wednesday. They gave me the blood work sheet 3 months ago, that wasn't very smart of them :?: I need to go by tomorrow so I can get it drawn Saturday. Hopefully they can get the blood results by Wednesday so I don't need to take two trips.

    Morning, all.

Hopefully nobody here had feelings hurt. I think that everyone here knows that all of our opinions won’t always be exactly the same.

LD, that’s a huge negative on medical care in the upstate. Greenville is a larger city and it has a better selection of docs than the Anderson area does. Still it isn’t great.

From what I was told by a few drs up there is that the reason that area is not able to attract and maintain good drs is that the operation running the medical care system up there sux big time. Any dr that had any kind of options wouldn’t put up with the sheet they dish out. Leaving us with bottom of the barrel or good old boys from the area.

I was the one who was afraid my opinion on keto would raise some hackles since I knew Dee and Tracy both have had great success with it. We all know and love each other here, so obviously no offense intended or taken

Miss Bela is doing well, learning limits...most often the hard way like her Mama  I got a prong collar for our walks, and she's learned really quickly not to pull or lunge at others. She still goes bonkers at other reactive dogs, but that's getting better too. I have a guy coming late this afternoon to give m an estimate on finishing the chain link fence in my back yard. The most expensive part will be a drive thru gate, I'm sure. But sure as shootin' if I don't put one in, I'll need vehicle access to the back.

Got my Homestead exemption filed on my house yesterday. Disability qualifies my home to be exempt of the first $50k appraised value to be tax free, so that will be a big relief!

I'm having some issues with edema in my lower right leg, ankle and foot. I have a Dr appt on the 27th, but I may try to move that up since this is the leg that has a patch of psoriasis on my shin that just refuses to heal. It flared up right after I moved to SC, and that's been over a year ago. Last night, my ankle looked like a grapefruit :( I told Pokey last night I finally have my own life...I can't kick the bucket now!!

I knew a dude with psoriasis...he actually had broad patches of red skin....saw something recently that supposedly helped but unsure what that was now...Edema is out of my wheelhouse for sure...My Dad always kept a gallon of good old Atlantic Sea Water in the fridge for psoriasis...also drank a little wine daily for relief...Seems there's no real cure...Just do as instructed by the Doc...Hoping both issues get better soon....As was as the offended thing I wasn't offended at all....Actually thought I might have done the offending and read back through the thread making sure nothing I said could have been taken the wrong way...

Wharf I'm on trip 10,200 today....Carotid ultra sound....My idea.....Here's hoping all the best for your results...You know we all love you !!! Now if those carotids aren't jammed up I'm GOOD!!!!
