Hi all,

I've been lurking here for a few days and decided to wade in.

After several medical recommendations, I've been using my ecig (fifty-One Duo) from a couple of years ago to quit analog cigs for good. It's working this time. I believe it's working for several reasons. First, I was without cigs for over two weeks while in the hospital for what turned out to be bypass surgery. Second, the determination to never be this screwed up again means I MUST succeed this time in quitting analog cigs.

I'm waiting on FedEx to deliver (what I hope is) good gear. I'm waiting for 2 eGo Twist 1100mAh batteries, 4 CE4 clearomizers and a bottle of Topvapor tobacco flavor eliquid, all from MadVapes.

If anyone has thoughts on any of this post, please feel free to reply. Is there anything about the gear I ordered that I will regret? Any tips or tricks for this gear?

Thanks,
Ed

Welcome!

Well you sure found your motivation this time. (I'm a fellow heart attack survivor too.) This can work - I just passed my 2 year anniversary and cringe at the thought of smoking a cigarette. That never happened with the 42,000 attempts with "approved" methods.

Twists is good. CE4's is good - basically they are a "fill and go" device. One of the easier devices for newbies to start with. One you get the stuff in hand get back to us if you have questions about what you are staring at.

The hardest part about this is finding liquids you like. When searching stick to small, sampler size bottles and try to avoid getting more than a half dozen samples from one place. (There can be reasons why if you don't like the first thing you open from one liquid vendor, you may not like the next 29 samples you ordered from the same place either.) Once you find something(s) you like, order more and add a few more samples in to the next order.

Best wishes. And welcome to the easiest way to quit you ever tripped over!

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

My new gear arrived yesterday afternoon. It appears I was mistaken about the batteries. They're listed as eGo 1100mAh but NOT twist. They're not adjustable.

After charging the batteries, filling and assembling, my first attempt was successful. I got lots of vapor (compared to the Fifty-One Duo) and only a little "crackling" sound which was alleviated by a slightly stronger draw.

The TopVapor tobacco juice, as Elemental pointed out, is extremely sweet and tastes nothing like tobacco. Fortunately, it's not nasty so I'll be able to finish the bottle but will be looking for something more tobacco flavored and less sweet going forward.

Overall, I'm happy with my new set up. Rickajho pointed out the perils of the quest for the right juice and I'm already seeing it. Thanks szot for the recommendations. 555 was going to be my next attempt. I'm a little more confident now.

Thanks again for everyone's input.

Good Vaping,
Ed

I would recommend getting a solid mod down the road. I recently got a Sigelei Zmax and the difference is like night and day compared to my old eGo-V. The eGos simply don't put out the same amount of power/flavor/vapor. It made all the difference in the world to me :) But they are a very good place to start and also joining the forum here is a great idea too! Everyone here is so helpful. Stay strong man and don't get discouraged! :D

And of course, welcome to the forums! :vapor: Vape on!

There really is no tobacco flavor that's taste like Marlboro or any analog...most all liquids have some flavor....555 is like some caramel ...Ry4 is like liqorice.....both are considered "tobacco " flavors since most all else is fruity or extremely sweet..as far as the variable volts twists versus the ego C fixed 1100a batterys, my 555 taste the same on either battery, and no matter what setting and volts I put the twists on....and to be honest, even non smokers and non vapor ppl who I let try both batteries see no difference in tastes either with 555, RY4 and a few other liquids..so I'm happy with the fixed batteries.....

I thought I'd post an update here for those of you who were so helpful and encouraging when I first arrived.

Today marks 8 full weeks without analogs. Even though I was seriously doped up and on the patch, that still makes over 6 weeks since my last cigarette, after about 43 years of smoking. I'm elated and so is my wife. I can smell things again. I can taste things again. As an added bonus, I've been coughing up and getting rid of crud that's I'm sure has been building up in my lungs of decades. I know that's gross and may be a little disturbing to some of you. I apologize. It needed to be pointed out as a serious benefit in my mind.

My knock-off ego batteries are holding up well. I'm getting a full day and change out of a charge on each one. My knock-off Stardust clearos appear to have been at least worth the $4.00 I paid for them. I've only thrown out one. I cleaned one and started it with some new juice and it's still hanging in there although the vapor volume is not as good as the ones I haven't cleaned.

I invested in a couple of Evods. One is still unopened and the other is a POS. It leaks everywhere, gurgles like a swamped snorkel and I can't get it straightened out. After all the videos and tips & tricks I've tried, it's still lousy.

I'm considering another switch, maybe to vivi's but apparently they have issues as well. I guess I can always go with CE5s.

Anyway, I'm not at all discouraged, just challenged. I'm also considering a couple of eGo twists for camping and traveling and a solid MOD like the Smoktech SiD or maybe a zMax with a tank for home use.

Any suggestions???

EdHarley: Your progress is awesome!! I also started out with the eGo knockoffs and was pretty happy with them until I bought a Volcano Inferno. I know a lot of people on here hate Volcano or think they are for inexperienced vapers, but I LOVE it. It is perfect for someone starting out and I especially like the tube tank that it comes with.
As far as the e-liquids, I would suggest trying out a local vapor store so you can sit and try some out until you find some that you like. Then you will know what type of flavors you tend to like more and you are more likely to have success when ordering from online vendors.
Good luck with anything that you try and keep up the great work!!

Hi Ed, I don't have any suggestions, as I am very new here, and haven't really acquired any ecigs yet. I just wanted to congratulate you on your 8 weeks without analog cigs! :toast:

Noone had asked you what model ego? Some can be adjusted through button presses rather than twist. .. you may have a voltage adjustment after all. ..

They're "STAM" eGo batteries from MadVapes. I've been over them pretty thoroughly and looked into them online. They are what they are. Thanks for the thought. I'm just gonna pick up a couple of genuine "twist" batteries for when I'm away from home. I like using my lanyard and they're simple and pretty indestructible. I'll be looking for a SiD or a zMax shortly with a ProTank or something similar for using at home. I'm self employed and work from home so that just makes sense.

Congratulations EdHarley!

My wife and I started on the eGo-C twist 1100 mah and the CE4 clearos too. I quickly outgrew that setup and I ended up with a mod, a couple iClear 30's, some EVOD's, a ViVi Nova, and now I'm into carto tanks. I also have a rebuildable dripping atomizer that I like to mess around with.

We tried the vaporizers to get off of analog cigs too, and one thing I can say that I was reasonably surprised at is that I'm having more fun vaping than I EVER did on analogs! How many different ways can you smoke an analog? Not very many, and they're all somewhat boring. How many different tastes can you get out of an analog? I can count one - "ashtray" lol. There are countless ways to vape, and a staggering amount of flavors to choose from. I started with a tobacco type of flavor and one other. The only reason that I'm still vaping the tobacco flavor is because I paid for it. My wife is on fruits, and I'm messing around with some other flavors.

On flavors and juices. Everything is subjective. A flavor that you love someone else could despise and vice versa. Also, juices are kinda like wine. They tend to get better with age. There are some flavors that I get that are good right from the get-go, and some that I have to let alone for a week or two so that they can "steep". I have a pair of flavors cooling their heels in the cabinet right now. I just give them a good shaking once a day. If you get a sample bottle that isn't that good, set it in the dark for a week with a shake every day. Try it again in a week, you might be surprised at how the flavor changes.

Other than that, this forum is absolutely jam-packed with great people that have a wealth of knowledge, and are more than eager and willing to offer help. It's also a good way to find out about all the new goodies that are out there.

Every time a new package comes in the mail for me, it's now accompanied by a matrimonial eye-roll...:vapor:
