All nice info, but way beyond what I was wanting to ask. If I get a 7 wrap 3.5mm ID coil, when I spread it to be a spaced coil will it be too long for our deck?

But, reading the answers, it seems a 5 wrap will perform just as well. Unless:

First, Heat Coefficient. Sounds like a number that would matter greatly. What iPhone apps are you referring to?

MicroCoilPro & Coil Genius.
There are also a bunch of free ones for Ohms Law.

Target resistance always matters for safety!;)
When using mech mods resistance plays a major factor. I just took the build @markfm uses in his nano (5 wraps of twisted 26g) and paralleled it with 5 wraps of 24g. Runing on the Minikin 2 in TCR mode (0.00092) at 451F/66.6W and it's providing a great vape. So far it has been the best build I have found for my nano. That coil measures 0.11 ohms and would be sketchy on a mech but well within limits on a regulated TC mod. I have watched the local "Clouds Bro" fire 0.06 builds on parallel mech boxes before, and that is seriously sketchy pulling 70A from a fresh pair of 18650's.

I have fired a 0.02 ohm non TC build on the Hohm Wrecker G2 before, and it fires down to 0.007 ohms. :w00t: :vapor:

Ok, a question for you clapton aficionados.
I vape TC using spaced coils. Normally a 6/7 or 7/8 wrap 3.5mm ID.
How many wraps would I need if I bought a set of these in 3.5mm ID.
I use (and love) SS 430, so if I were to try claptons, these would be ideal for the trial.
*NEW* 10 Pack Clapton Coils (Gr. 430 SS) (26g/30g)
Nice find on the SS430 Claptons, I'm getting tired of twisting Unk 28g and they would be a good change. I would get the 3.5mm 8 wrap ones, that way you can tailor them to your needs. You can always take a wrap or three off, and pull the coil down to a smaller diameter if you find the 3.5mm too big.

Yeah, I may have to try those, I have never made anything other then single wire coils. I have yet to find a US site selling single wire SS430 spools, even these folks don't offer that.

To those that have tried these, what "custom" TCR have you found to be correct for TC mods, like a DNA?

Do you already use Unkamen SS430? Only available in 28g though.
28 gauge Stainless Steel Wire - 430 Grade Nickel Free - 200 feet - 100% Guarantee - Creating Unkamen

I would think the default SS430 CSV from Steam Engine would work with those Claptons.

Ok, final not really Nano question, though it is related since that's where the coils are going...
So, I used steam-engine and coiled a clapton using the specs from advanced vape supply SS430 claptons.
I get their listed resistance, so it should be the same. This is for a 6 wrap 3.5 ID
However, I get an enormous number for the length of the coil. That would be 10.5cm or around 4 inches.

Resistance 0.472 Ω
Resistivity 4.47 Ω/m
TCR in vaping range 1380 ×10-6
TC precision 652
Heat flux per Watt 1.07 mW/mm²
Heat capacity 230.50 mJ/K
Current per Volt 2.12 A
Power dissipated 100.00 %
Width 0.92 mm
Thickness 0.92 mm
Length 105.63 mm
Surface area 936.45 mm²
Cross section area 0.18 mm²
Volume 64.74 mm³
Mass 501.08 mg
Density 7.74 g/ccm

MicroCoilPro & Coil Genius

Looks like a nice app, but doesn't handle SS 430
The length is credible. For a 6 wrap 3.5ID clapton, 32 wrapped around 24, with 10mm total leg length, I show the 24 being 103mm while the 32 is 1464mm. (I use Vape Tool Pro on Android).

Ahhhh!
So the length is NOT the length of the coil itself, leg to leg.
It is the length of the wire involved with making the coil.

See? I can learn if you have a large enough board...

MicroCoilPro HAS a SS430 preset, Coil Genius does NOT, as of yet.

But these are perfect for MTL vaping without any modifications... I don't get how they can say this.

I'm not sure how one can't MTL on this. I just leave the airflow open a teeny tiny bit and I have no problem with MTL....unless I'm misunderstanding what MTL is. I draw the vape goodness into my mouth, then inhale it into my lungs then exhale. I did the same thing with the Merlin RTA and that was with the airflow screw out.

A saw 2 reviewers state that these will not work for MTL vaping... They don't know what they are taking about. That's all I do.

Hi ricks, what is your best coil position in NANO. Close to air hole ? or Pushing it up a little? My NANO reached me today im so happy.

I'm finding my best flavor is when it's close to the poles and dead center of the the coil mount holes. I'm still experimenting with my 2 and just about everything I put in these works. But the best so far is a 2mm id coil with Rayon. I was using some Japanese cotton that worked great but it would only last for one tank. After that it would start tasting strange. I switched to Rayon and it seems to be better.
