Ody flooding....

Hi. I am getting a bit frustrated with my Ody (v1). I have rebuilt it numerous times in the past and never really had much of a problem with flooding.Yesterday I rebuilt numerous times and everytime it floods...i can watch the drips coming from the center post.I dont have any of my wire connections in the channels,I have 2 wicks,my ground wire comes straight out from channel under locking ring(not crossthreaded),Tighten mouthpiece down,fill tank and cap slowly....maybe cracked ceramic? I just dont want to take it apart(again) to find its not cracked. Any suggestions?

Is the ceramic ok Natron? Any cracks on it?

Flooding means that liquid goes inside center pole from a cracked ceramic or because you have not a tight connection between center post and ceramic housing. Can you check those things for me?

o ring appears ok as does ceramic...took it out and intact.

and what about the connection between center post and ceramic housing Natron? Is it tight? Maybe you need to tight the upper center post's nut?

is tight. used screwdriver even.

ok. changed ceramics,new wick/coil,vaseline orings,everything tight,filled tank partially,waited a few....flood!!!! didnt even have cap on.

Try wrapping your NR wire "all the way around" the core before you screw the nut down. Unless of course you're already doing this or grounding it inside without the nut this is the only way my Ody used to leak consistently. Imeo has a great video explaining it somewhere. I will try to find it.

thanks. i was down to thinking could be the little gap the wire makes between the nut and base. altho i never had a problem before...

Yeah I went for a long time without any leaks, then they just popped up. I tried Imeo's trick and it has worked fine ever since. Here is the video, my friend:

I actually don't wrap it, I just cut the wire at the bottom of the housing and it naturally bends inside the base to complete the'm connection. Makes the nut sit perfectly flush.

At least we're eliminating possible culprits

A trick found on vapepit was to use a piece of wet and dry sand paper and flatten the knurled lock ring smooth as the knurling can cause a gap making it not sit flush it has worked for a few people and its worth a try.

The other thing to be cautious of is tightening the Ody too much into the fitting of your device. Screwing the Ody too much will put pressure on the center pin, forcing it up and possibly making a gap between the ceramic and inner o-ring. Likewise, it can force the outer o-ring to shift to the side, making a gap between the center post, o-ring and inside bottom wall of Ody.

Just a thought. It sounds a bit out there, but you've obviously tried all of the normal things already.

If neither of those is the issue, and the Ody floods even before you put it on a device, then there has to be a gap between LC and housing or housing and base. Good luck.
