I just finished the Stephen King book (Under the Dome), and I loved it. I'm now on my 3rd book since I got the Kindle. I don't think I'll ever buy and "analog" book again.

I haven't since I got mine in early Sept. It goes everywhere with me. I love it.

hey all: so i ve had a reader for a long time the first rocket ebook, then ebookwise, then the sony first run usa, then a neiher sony, just bought the sony touch, when sony did the format change for drm.

sony emailed me to say i needed to send my older sonys in for a firmware update, they had my s/n`s for them both, sent my prs500`s to them, they had them for a week, they emailed me asking me to call them...???? so i did.

the s/nrd ebooks have the the update already, even though i bought one in 07, and 08

now why did they want them, why did they wait to send them back, how could they not know what s/n i had when i regersterd? the prs 600 reg. is different, or the whole process is different now, in i did not enter a s/n but have to have the e-book on line to autherize it for e-books to be put on it.

also the sd memory cards from prs500 cant be read on a prs600, even with drm stripped out.

does the kindle have memory card slots?

How was Under the Dome? I used to LOVE Stephen King.... but I don't think I have really liked anything much since Misery.... I did read the sample on my Nook (which I LOVE LOVE LOVEbtw) and it seemed ok to start....

We have been ereading for years, my wife is still using her Palm Tx, me on the iPhone (started on Macbook), been waiting for Kindle to drop the price a little lower. May end up waiting to see how the dust settles from launch of the iPad (yes, I am a Mac fanboy). Whatever your preference, ereader hardware will be undergoing significant advancements in the next year, and content will hopefully come down in price (when we first started ereading back in 2005, prices were about half of what they are now). If google and apple get involved, maybe we can get back to those days when buying lots of books was cheap. Even if you don't like Mac's or the concept of the iPad, emedia competition will benefit us all! :)

I figure anything that gets people reading books again is a good thing, no matter which device they use. I agree that 10 bucks for a book for an e-reader (Kindle) is a lot of money, these prices need to come down. I don't pay that for paperbacks at the store and I certainly don't buy hardbacks that often, especially for entertainment type reading. Luckily I 've found enough freebies and cheaper ones to keep me busy. However, I've gotten hold of more than a couple of books that are by independent authors and it was pure torture trying to read them. ugh! One used the word "shock" so many times I started reading those lines out loud to my husband and he said, what? that's fifteen times in the past hour. LOL Anyway, the e-reader world needs some improvement in lots of areas, that's for sure. For the most part, I'm enjoying the Kindle, but will probably get a different device once the new wears off the Kindle.

Just a funny...

I have had my kindle for a long time. Recently the power went out and had a high possibility of being out for quite awhile due to a storm. I freaked out a little thinking to myself; no computer, no tv, what if my kindle battery runs out!!!!

I completely forgot about the 5 bookshelves filled with books. I think I may be too plugged in. I might need to power down for a day or two every month ;)

I'm a big reader too, was wondering about these for awhile. So you can download books free and for a price? Does it store them too?
Yes you can download both free and paid for books with the Kindle. Check out kindlekorner@yahoogroups.com for a really great group of Kindle afficianados. They are as friendly and helpful as the folks here at EFC.

And yes I have a Kindle too. I got at as a B-day gift from my little sister. Best prezzy ever. Ahhh, vaping and reading, now there's a little bit of heaven for ya. :D
