I'll watch for it and check what the grapevine is saying....
... a lot of the times a person mentions that an update messed them up, it was caused by an underlying corruption of some sort that was unique to their system ( or at least uncommon )... Of course, there have been several updates that do just as what you are talking about also... So I don't assume it one way or the other.
When I'm dealing with that situation... I'll do a system restore or if the system doesn't boot, I'll boot into safe mode or from a Windows boot disk and then perform the system restore. Once complete, I look things over to see if there is anything obvious, do a disk check/fix ( chkdsk/f in a command prompt and reboot ), finish off with a file system check ( sfc.exe /scannow and reboot ) and then scan for possible malware... In the majority of the cases, I can then install the update without issue.
If you need help with any of that if you hadn't done some of it already ... just call I can probably walk you through any of it.

You may want to read a little further on that... the security flaw exists in all Intel processors ( known on other processors at this time ) on one of those and in all AMD, Arm, and Intel processors on the other one... So then that includes Windows and Android devices as well as Apple products.
