I worked for DEC for many years.....VMS was great. I taught networking to employees, and then quality engineering and support on the pc networking systems. I remember Ken Olsen giving a speech telling us that people didn't really want their own applications and computers....they really wanted and needed a terminal. Obviously...he blew it on that one....

Did he? Look at Win8. It's a return to terminals.

Hell, my AV wants to do everything in "the cloud" if I let it. Great idea...when these storms hit recently they nearly took out half of the big sites on the Internet because Amazon S3 took a ..dump.

Don't forget that Bill Gates said the Internet was a "fad".

Good point.....the cloud does look a lot like the old terminal/server model.

Have to admit I have never played a game on my iPad. I use it primarily as a teaching tool and communication device with disabled clients. It works better, and is more motivating than $8000.00 communication devices. There are thousands of applications which are low cost and many are very high quality. It also serves as a great Kindle/Nook substitute.

Eric, will I be able to use the Apollo tank on my Silver Bullet with a 510 to 510 adapter? I ordered 3 last night and I want to make sure I can use them or will I need to get another adapter.

Thanks...

I do not have nor have I tested a silver bullet so I cannot say for certain but in general an adapter will raise it up enough.

Thanks, that what I was wondering. I figure if worse come to worse I will just shave the Apollo skirt just a tad. The 510/510 adapters I got from you previously sit up pretty high. Fingers crossed...lol.

ooOOoo, Eric, I like you MORE if you said bad things about Mac. I have had Macintosh computers since the early 1990s. I have had a few Windows computers too and used Windows sometimes at work, but at home, I have had mostly Mac. I'm fed up with how proprietary it is.

Once the iPhone came out and the AT&T version wouldn't work in my Chicago home, I started exploring Android. I tried iPhone again when Verizon came out with one. It still sucked as a phone. Dropped calls constantly in my house and all around town.

By this time I had used Android for a couple of years. I started using Google Chrome. I have to say, I am a Chrome addict now, still using a MacBook Pro.

As soon as Google comes out with the thing like Apple has -- the genius bar where you can bring any computer, or equipment in, no matter how old, for a diagnosis of the problem for free. And the three year extended warranty, I will most likely buy a Chromebook and a Nexus 7 tablet.

That's weird Sandy....I have used an iPhone for 4 years...never had a dropped call. The problem with Android, in my mind, is all the different versions of it.....that's why there aren't near as many apps, or some apps don't work on different devices. For my usage.....everything works, either on the phone or the tablet.....never have to worry about it. The folks who are writing the kinds of apps I use almost always write first for IOS because of the portability. Many developers won't write for Android because they have to keep tweaking for the different implementations.

I have a 7 year old macbook, and a 2 year old windows laptop (with pretty high end specs and more memory). The macbook is faster at most tasks, and has never seen a virus. I would like windows a lot better if they would allow me to strip out the bad applications and extra junk I will never use...like Internet Explorer, which crashes regularly). I totally agree on Google Chrome...use it on both platforms.

I've got an iPad 3 64GB. 40GB are games. Heck, it's the new Xbox!

I understand. I really wanted to have an iPhone. I tried four different iPhones - bought mine at the Apple store. After seven weeks of crappy service, I returned iPhone #4. Apple graciously refunded my money. AT&T let me out of the contract.

I went to T-Mobile and got a G-1 Android, one of the first Android phones. I had no problems ever again with dropped calls at home or in Chicago. I got a Samsung Android phone with T-Mobile, and I loved it. I switched to Verizon when they first got the iPhone. I assumed it was an AT&T problem. The iPhone was no good; I tried it for a few weeks, spent hours on the phone with customer service, then returned it to Verizon.

I've had a Samsung Droid Charge now with Verizon for about a year, and I love that phone too. And the apps!

I like plugging the phone in and seeing the file system without being forced to use iTunes, iPhoto, or Apple Mail. I like to see what is on the phone and be able to delete what I want just by dragging the file to the trash.

The thing that made my decision pretty firm on getting away from Apple, is how the Mac and Chrome just do not play nice with each other. I am guessing that has something to do with Apple not letting anyone see any of its code, but that's just a guess.

I thought they write for iOS because it's profitable. Android apps are not profitable, unless the developers spam people with ads, to the best of my knowledge.

You don't have to have a credit card on file to get Android. You do to get an Apple ID. That's why people buy the paid apps so easily, IMHO.
