What is it with displaying Swiss Made or Made in Germany on a watch? Maybe pride in something well made??

Well, when you "buy American", you support American businesses and jobs.
Also, in a world where dang near everything is made in China, or Taiwan, Americans are growing more and more proud to buy & sell things that are American made.
It comes from a sense of pride in one's country, that is distinctly American.
Sure other people are proud of their countries, but in a consumer society like America, we pride ourselves on materialistic things.
EDIT: As my Grandfather would say..."There was a time when 'American made' meant the best quality."
I don't know why you would ask such a question...but all I know is:

You are right, that is distinctly American. Americans are the most patriotic people on earth. There's no other country with so much flag waving and chest-thumping going on.
Well, I don't know about all that.
There ARE countries with higher self-esteem levels, and a higher sense of pride...
