Wow: :?: I read this after talking to my cousin who's son is a freshman scholarship recipient at Cornell. Talk about "six degrees of separation"... At least I can give my cousin some assurance about what kind of partying his son is doing. :p

This was a catered affair. I think the students might be doing a different kind of partying on their own. And another time, I worked at a huge tailgate party where we served beer nonstop.

Ok, I just thought of the scariest thing I ever read - anyone here ever read Joe Haldeman? He wrote 'the Forever War' and a few other well known sci fi titles, but there's a short story called 'Seasons' in his collection titled 'Dealing in Futures' that is the most intense fictional story I've ever read, bar none. I've always thought it would make the most frightening movie!

I am clearly not motivated to work today.

Speaking of horror stories made into movies, who remembers "Don't Look Now"? Here's the trailer. Don't Look Now - Trailer - YouTube

I have a question, though. There was a movie I saw as a kid that I thought was pretty scary and I can't remember the name. No one I've mentioned it to knows what I'm talking about. I only remember a few of the particulars:

The little boy in it reminds me of Timmy from Lassie. A space ship has landed (unbeknownst to anyone) and is buried under sand. People go missing. Apparently if someone steps in the sand over their porthole, they fall into the space ship for experimentation purposes. Does anyone else remember this? From the 1950s I think. I have been trying for years to recall - would like to see again to determine if it's really scary or if I've just always been wimpy. lol

WELL - That Movie happens to be #17 (EDIT: and I just noticed #24 too - My Bad ) in my list: "Invaders from Mars" (1953) - an absolutely wonderful movie for suspense and the eventual outcome . . . Something to watch again, along with a few of the others I've listed - IMO ;)

You can get a copy of it (and many other classics) from Amazon: Amazon.com: Invaders from Mars (Special Edition): Helena Carter, Arthur Franz, Jimmy Hunt, Leif Erickson, Hillary Brooke, Morris Ankrum, Max Wagner, Milburn Stone, Janine Perreau, Charles Gibb, Frank Wilcox, Barbara Billingsley, Gil Herman, Max Palme

There was also a remake - not as good as far as I'm concerned (and usually most remakes aren't as good as the originals).

EDIT: After I posted this I see "Darkstar" beat me to the punch and even found you a clip from You Tube - Oh Well ! ! ! Too much information is better than none :D

I sure do! But unfortunately, I can't remember the title, either. :( I watched it during a slumber party when I was a kid. Everybody was asleep, and it was very late. I think that's what made this movie extra creepy for me.

I was so happy to read this! For years everyone has accused me of trying to pass a bad dream off as a movie. lol

Okay, I searched to see if I could find it for you, and looks like you might be talking about this

That’s it! That’s it! Thank you, thank you, thank you! Although I can see by the trailer that I should be able to watch it without problems. lol As a kid, it was the only time I remember having bad dreams!

Five Fingers with Peter Lorre was pretty spooky but nothing like the Invaders from Mars!

Did anyone see THE TINGLER TRAILER 1959 VINCENT PRICE - YouTube

Saw it when I was a kid and thought it terrifying - now I think it is funny.

So, did you get the special equipment to save yourself? Maybe now without it, it will turn out to be surprisingly spine tingling! I’m going to put this on my list, I love Vincent Price.

Oh, 1973! I was living on my own and didn’t watch scary things then! But, looks like it would be kinda fun now. I’m going to add that along with Orphan to my wimpy list. lol

Thank you, Uncle! You’re right – more information is better. Do you know how many years this has come up in conversation and no one knew what I was talking about? I may just order this from Amazon as it is one of the few movies my hubby missed. He loves the old horror flicks and watches whenever he catches them. I know he’ll get a kick out of this. The old special effects can’t be beat in some respects!

I remember a horror film I watched on TV in the late '60s probably, maybe early 1970, that was b & w, I think, and it was about a young child who you think is a girl, but who turns out to be a boy whose mother pretended was a girl for a reason I can't now remember. It was a very haunting film, a little scary. Can anyone think of the name? I tried to Google it, but all I found was someone else asking about it, with no answer to the question. That person said it was a British film. I found another questioner asking about what sounded like the same, and they said the "girl" had a doll named Sebastian. I don't remember the doll, but my memory of the film is hazy. What I do remember is that it blew me away.
