@ Wuzzntme - Well, I can't do a comparison because I've only used the Brother P-Touch PT-2430 PC Labelmaker. So - I can't really tell ya what it can do that the others can't.

Amazon.com: Brother PC-Connectable Label Maker with Auto Cutter (PT-2430PC): Office Products

I can tell you what it does do though. You have a wide choice of tape widths from (I think) 3/8" up to 1" in a variety of colors - all laminated which seems pretty much impervious to nicquid. It can print multiple lines of text and graphics which can be just about anything. I found a pic of a roll of wintergreen Lifesavers on the net, and plunked it onto my Wintergreen label (the software auto-sized it to the height of the tape), and then I saved and stored it for future use. I have a whole library of labels now - each one with a picture so I can recognize it at a glance. Also included in the software is are a gazillion different symbols and icons. There are multiple fonts available. You can use AC power instead of relying on a battery powered unit. Ummm - can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but I love mine. :thumb:

@ Wuzzntme - Here are Volt with the P-Touch labels (gold on black). As you can see on the two grapes - I was able to position "Classic" above the graphic of the grapes. You can move things all around or size them however you want - graphics or text. I've got some labels on my DIY bottles with four lines of text. They look a little blurry because of photographer error - lol.

Can you read any fine print on the USB hub that indicates an amount of current it provides per USB connector? It may be 2Amps total but internally be partioning out just a little bit of that per USB connector. The fine print might say something like 2Amps total Max power, or maybe something like 500mA Max power per connector, etc.

In other words, like Imagine said, it needs to be able to provide 1.5Amps of power to the USB connector you are plugging it into. And really, plugging the passthrough directly into your pc is sucking more power from your pc's USB connector than it's meant to supply, so that's a bit risky.

Thanks! I cannot read any fine print that says what each port recieves, (on account of, there isn't any - no indication of power per plug at all), and your suggestion makes perfect sense. It was 2.0, period, and there are seven ports. It did charge a battery in a reasonable amount of time, though, so I'll live and learn and be happy with that. It cost me $7. You get what you ... aw, you know.

I hear you on the 'puter - I just can't do it. The passthroughs go away until I figure this out.

That blue battery looks more like a BRIGHT blue than navy - is that a good true color - I love it!

Yeah, so with 7 ports, I'm guessing the 2 amps are distributed. And if it's from eBay...
The new wall adapter from SI coming up next week sounds like it would solve all your problems with the passthrough though! :)

I hope I can find a decent label maker that's compatible with my Mac. If not, I'll be borrowing my husband's laptop. :p

Thanks for the rec, Rave! :)

If someone with one of these labelmakers could give me some feedback I'd appreciate it. I went to WallyWorld yesterday and they had two kinds. One was about $18 and the other was $30 something, both taking the same tape. I was wondering if the typeface is all black or are colors possible if I get the clear tape so I can label my cartos. In other words, can I use the clear on cartos and be able to see it. Also is the bigger one worth the price difference and why? I kind of like the less expensive one for size as well as price but don't want to make a big concession in features over a few bucks.
Wuzz, you saw the Casio ones, right? If I were you, I'd make sure the refill tapes are easy to get for that one. Brother P-Touch seems to be the most accessible - might be better to try to get one of those cheap online instead. They usually give you sample black on white tape to play with - the real fun comes with the refill tapes, where you can pick different color combos and widths. Black on clear tape on our black cartos probably wouldn't be a good idea.

The one Rave is talking about is one that hooks up to the computer: you do actual graphics on included software and print it out like you would on a regular printer (it's basically a mini-printer). This gives you the added functionality of adding pictures, reversing type, etc. So if you wanted gold type on black tape, you could reverse your image so that the black prints that way on the gold tape. If you wanted your labels to look like Rave's, you might have to go this route. Otherwise, you'd be getting black type on white tape (or whatever color tape you end up getting). I think she uses the PT-2430PC... Get it? :)

EDIT: Actually, I don't even know if the included software gives you the power to reverse the image (to get it to look like hers). That might be a Photoshop thing that you have to do to it first...but sure is pretty, right?

I have that same problem, which is why I don't have one yet.
Brother PT_2730 is the only one I've seen so far. A little more expensive, but you get more refill tape choices (cuz it can go wider)! :)
They have stand-alone ones too, but then you wouldn't be able to do the fun things that Rave does. It would just be straight-up black or white type on colored tape (depending on the tape you choose).

OK, back to vaping stuff...
