Hey guys. I haven't been here in a while. I picked the stinkies back up during a divorce and finally am trying to get back to vaping. Haven't smoked in a week. My problem is this...things have changed over the past 2 years and I'm struggling to get a good setup. I'm using an istick with a nautilus 2 tank with 0.7 ohm coils. 6mg juice(recommended by vape shop). I don't feel like it's enough, so I purchased the Smok Osub80. It has a baby beast? tank. It's just too much. Too much air flow for me. I can't get a good draw cuz of the airflow. It makes me cough. If I turn down the airflow, I don't get much vapor. Maybe sub ohm isn't for me. If I don't find something soon, I'm worried that I'll start smoking again :( Help please!

Hello and welcome back. I have heard good things about the Nautilus 2 tanks. I think you would be better off with a coil above 1 ohm. I'm not familiar with what is available for their coils. Anyway, Higher Ohm coil and 18 mg/ml nic. I used the original Nautilus with high ohm coil and 24 mg/ml nic to finally put the cigs down that was 2 1/2 years ago. I'm sure someone else will check in with more knowledge to help you out.

Yep...Both the N2 & TopTank Mini work for me...But I'm a "Pure" Mouth To Lung vapor and my favorite tank is an Innokin T18 or T22...Tanks from Endura Starter Kits...See Pix Bottom Of This Page iStick 40 + T22...
Innokin Endura T18 (my new favourite toy)
It's got a perfect draw for me and I vape really sweet juice so the tough/cheap coils help as well...Trig

Edit: Totally Agree on the 1.8 N2 Coil...The .7 was too harsh for my liking...
And those Innokin Coils are 1.5's...

My problem with the Nautilus is that I take a very long draw and I think the coil dries up on my second hit. Grrrr

Yes...In my OPINION it does better as a DTL tank with the air open...When I use an N2 I have to pinch the air so tight it barely draws at all...Which makes it gurgle & spit...Not the Tanks Fault...Just the way I was trying to use it...But if I got the AIR just right at 11.5 watts with the 1.8 coil it worked AOK...But as far as filling goes...I can fill a T18 in about 1/4 the time it takes to fill the N2...

You are better off with the Nautilus 2 tank and increasing the nic level, but you may have a hard time finding a local vape shop selling a tasty juice at 18 mg/ml. Some do, but many vape shops stock what's hot now, and sub-Ohm vaping with low nic juice is all the rage these days.

There are many reputable vendors selling juice up to 24mg/ml online, and you can save some serious coin going that route.

Mt. Baker Vapor rocks. So does Central Vapors.

I also like the idea of the Subtank or Toptank. Those aren't as airy as the Beast tanks, and they're more versatile. You can get coils for about any style of vaping you're interested in. They are outstanding vapor and flavor producers.

Welcome back!

Jett17, first of all even though the N2 is a 0.7 coil, my sense is that it can be used MTL with the right airflow and wattage, or even a restricted lung hit. If you are using that coil, due to space and size, it functions a bit differently (IMO) than a typical sub0hm coil. You need more PG for juice flow to be easy, depending on what you got from the vape store, but you can still use a fair bit of PG in your tank. That might help stop the dry hits, and also, up your nicotine significantly. At LEAST 12 nic, maybe higher. If you are having trouble with wicking still, you can draw air in to the tank a few seconds after you finish pressing the fire button, as it's a small tank, with medium at best airflow, that may help your wicking be more consistent. I use MAX VG in that tank, (I'm pg sensitive) and doing it that way avoids any dry hits for me (in any of the coils). I don't really consider the 0.7 sub0hming, and just because a coil is slightly below 1.0 resistance, that doesn't automatically make it not a MTL tank, or at best, a restricted lung hit, due to the design of the tank (in my opinion). I don't think your gear is at issue here, either, I think you need more nicotine. I like the Nautilus 1.6 coil a lot, it's a nice balance between the 0.7 coil and the 1.8. Either one is still going to be more powerful than you might be used to with very old gear, so why the shop sent you home with 6 mg nicotine e-juice is beyond me.

Just my 02 cents, I do have a lot of experience with that tank and those coils, however. Best of luck, and I really think that if a true sub0hm tank is "too much" you can make the N2 work well for you on the 0.7 coil. Welcome back to ECF.

This is something I’ve seen lately. Vape shops recommending overly low nic levels to new vapers. Not sure why it’s going on. I’d say at least 12mg though.

I think it is because a lot of vape shops only carry 3 mg, 6 mg or 0 mg... at least the ones around here. Most of what they carry is subohm equipment too. They seem to think everyone want to blow massive clouds.

jett17, if you have a Freedom Smoke USA near you, they will give you the eliquid in your desired nicotine strength and PG/VG ratio, no matter what you decide it is. You can also taste flavors for free. I was surprised (due to the widespread practice of Max VG only going to 12 nic, that they were happy to bump it as HIGH as I wanted, regardless of ratio). Their ejuice is middle of the road at best, but it's a good place to try flavors and maybe purchase some juice while you are investigating online options.... :) If not, might want to call around. I've never seen a juice store here carry LESS than 12 m.g. nic, but I guess it happens some places, apparently....

What does the difference in ohms do? As far as what kind of difference would it make for me?

The tank is going to have more effect on whether you do mtl or dtl with .7 ohm coil. A .7 ohm coil is fine for MTL. A subohm tank has more airflow while a mtl tank has restricted airflow.

You wouldn't want .2 ohm coils for MTL but .5 and up work just fine with the correct tanks for mtl
