To me vapor production was always marginal since new, and lately it seems I cant get it to perform to my satisfaction even after cleaning it. Just about ready to jump ship but no one makes a VV bottom feeder as small and tough as a reo-mini. The only part I didn't clean is where the 501/306 female fitting is pressed into the aluminum.

Does that come apart? Or can I get a hotter atty than the LR306's Iv been using?

Thanks

Did you take a nail file to the end tip of the firing mechanism? Then did you put on Noalox? Are you using new AW IMR batteries? Have you metered them to see if they are charging fully to 4.2?

You can do a higher voltage with the Mini. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/reos-mods/196139-6volt-reo-mini.html

If you are using a L.R. 1.5 306 and not getting what you want and your Mini is preforming at optimal then you should be getting great vapor and flavor.

With a rba, the Hornet will fit, you can make a lower ohm coil too. Some run a 1 ohm. Now that is hot!

REO mini is all I run. I can't imagine needing any more vapor? Whatcha trying to do choke yourself? JK.

I run a 1.7 ohm Supershort smoktech carto and couldn't ask for more vapor, flavor or reliability.

I have been using my REO for about 5 months and have experienced the same hard hitting reliability since day one.

I agree with what Karen states above. Also, how old is your REO?

Iv had it since May 2011 and used it for about 6 months. Maybe I'm imagining it.. But the performance seemed to decrease slowly over time with the ten AW 14500's I have. I even posted a question back in july of 2011 asking.. Why does my wifes ego-t produce more vapor than my Mini?

Let me check the battery voltage off the charger. But yes I filed the contact and removed the spring and noaloxed everything. My guess is the contact between the aluminum body and the 510/306 fitting has juice between it and isn't making good contact. Its the last thing I couldn't clean..

I planned on making my old mini into a passthrough VV to see if more voltage is what Im looking for. The hornet fits the mini? ok thanks..

I remember your post from before.

I have never heard of the contact between the fitting and the REO juicing and not making good contact. I have heard of a broken gasket. That usually ends up shorting atty's.

The atty's you are using should be great atty's. I use the Joye LR 510 or 306 and have excellent vapor and flavor.

Did you ever send it to Robert to check? You should know he is not happy unless us Reonauts are happy! If you think it is the REO's fault then you should send it to him first.

I had this same problem with my wife's mini. I soaked it in Everclear for 30 minutes, then took a swab to all connection points, drip well, etc... I let it sit over night applied some noalox to firing pin and it was back to new.

Good luck, hopefully you get it working again.

I never did that. I had it in pieces except for the atty fitting. Just possibly, juice is getting down between the aluminum and the brass fitting slowly adding resistance there. I dunno.

I just put everclear on the shopping list.

No never sent it back to Robert. Might do that if I can round up/fix a replacement. The center pin I'm not worried about. Its the outside sleeve which is pressed into the aluminum.. I think.. which might be creating resistance there.
Daughter borrowed my second Mini and Lost it along with a hand full of batteries. The boy borrowed moms egoT.. Gone. lol So I'm tempted to go shopping but I want a VV/VW bottomfeeder in the mini size for work. I could change batteries about anytime I needed. I might think about the 6v but adjusting ohms with different attys sounds like a pita and ancient at these times.

I think maybe your batteries are just tired. We have like 10 aw's in rotation but after about a year, I noticed similar weakness starting on my mini's. I say do as Karen suggested by filing the firing pin and noalox, then treat yourself to a new battery or two and see if its back to normal!

Iv got a few 14500's from april 2012. They perform just like my older batteries with off the charger volts at 4.1 or more. Loaded, the batteries drop to 3.7 or so. Does that sound like I need new batteries?

Just to be clear. My Mini is working. But it.. like the subject say.. Just doesn't cut it anymore. Vapor wise I should add.. I didn't say it wasn't the best built, most reliable , coolest looking hand hidin PV out there.
More than likely, it's probably my senses becoming dull with age and analogs or the juice. But if you watched me take multiple pulls holding the button for 10-15 seconds.. You'd probably laugh and recommend more watts.

I'm inclined to agree with Rob on this. You could check the resistance of your unit by first measuring the resistance of your atty and then placing it on the unit and measuring the resistance overall. If the overall resistance is .1 ohm greater than the atty only, then I recommend Okcodemonkey's bath method. Otherwise clean and treat the firing pin with Nolan, and see if that works. You could test the battery under load to see if the battery is worn out (this is the prime suspect.). Or the 14500s just aren't cutting it for you. In this case, I recommend the mini 2.1 (available soon at your favorite Reo dealer) or the grand. I'm out of town, and I can't upload a photo using only my phone. In two days I should have a photo up showing how to measure the overall resistance. Hopefully someone else will beat me to it.

Here is an image showing how to test the overall resistance. By the way, it is a good way to check for shorts before inserting the battery after changing a coil or atty.

Just make sure to use a better multimeter than what I have here. This one travels with me and is only good for testing the voltage and testing for continuity. It only rounds to the nearest one ohm. It would be better to use one that rounds to the nearest hundredth of an ohm.

Your welcome to send the mod to me I can test the unit under load. The mini is a great mod for some but to be honest I could never use a 14500 mod I would need 5 batteries to make it through a day . Its possible you have gone past the point a 14500 mod will give you what you need
Thanks Robert. Might send it to you when Iv got more gear but I think your spot on with me being past the point of a 14500 or 3.7.

What kind of charger are you using? Is it possible the batteries are degrading over time?

My meter's no better. But mine ohm'ed out clear without the 306. The 306 was 1.7 alone. Mini with the 306 was 1.8 I wish I had hundredths, but .1 of resistance is what I can see. I could check it with a more accurate meter at work.

I doubt .1 ohm would make much difference.. And wonder more how a 1.5 ohm or less atty would perform. Wouldn't decreasing ohms further on my atty be the equivalent as stacking batteries for 6v?

Is the hornet the only RA available for the mini? And can anyone recommend some new super low resistance atty's for 3.7? Or dialed in atty's for 6v?

Decreasing the resistance will increase the power output of the Reo to a point. You also have to consider that the battery it's self has an internal resistance. The larger battery will have a lower internal resistance which allows for a higher voltage drop across the atty. I think Rob was pushing the limit on LR atty setups. It was less than 1 ohm. 1.5 ohm is as far down as I would go.

The hornet is the only RBA that I know of that fits the 2.0 without modification. Someone else will have to verify it for the mini. I have a Reomizer on the 2.0 in the illustration. I had to expand the well using a 1/2 inch rod sandpaper and increased the width using paper spacers. I believe the wait is less than a week for the Mini 2.1 which has rounded corners and a larger well.

One other good thing about an RBA is you can easily test your batteries under load to verify whether the battery is going bad or not.

Considering the precision of your multimeter .1 ohms is within the error limits (inconclusive).

Thanks, I never thought about how you could test voltage under load using a regular multimeter. After reading the above I tested and I was running 4.64 volts. I test the coil for ohms and it was 2.5 ohm. Using ohms law the wattage came out to 8.6. I looked at my Kick setting for wattage and it was set for 8.6 watts. Nice to know that things are calibrated properly. Thanks for the tip.

The Surface is supposed to fit the Mini, also. Several of us will know soon as they are shipping this week from Germany. One REOnaut ChrisEU, who lives in Germany, will probably be the first to get his Surface in. Surface Verdampfer Selbstwickelverdampfer There is a thread here on Reosmods, ECF, about the Surface.

reopassthru.jpgThe surface and hornet look top shelf, but I could buy a lot of atty's for those bucks not to mention I might not even like them.

I need some new atty's. I just hooked up my VV passthru mod and vaped by taste. Checked the voltage after cranking it up and ended up at 5.56 on the 1.7 cisco . wow. not even thinkin about a cig right now.. But I'm surprised the vapor production didn't increase more.. VaporCast Southern Freeze .6% yummy
