Age is in the mind. Will be 58 on the 7th. I still work 6 days a week selling and designing
new houses. Play hard, hunting, fishing, fishing touraments.Still shoot hoops with my sons now and then. Even got done fighting throat cancer, finished radiation four weeks ago. Back to six days and fishing! I smoked Camel straights for 17 years and went to Camel lights for another 15 or so. I've been vaping for over 17 months now. I use a 510 and now a Tornado with LR atty. I WILL NEVER smoke analogs again!

I think older smokers often take to vaping better than younger ones because they are staring their health problems right in the face. /.../

I don't mean to barge in on all of you elderly folks :D, but I'm 46, "smoked" my 1st around 6 yrs old, was "a smoker" by 15. Smoked 3 packs per day for years, and I could FEEL them killing me. Face-to-face with my own mortality, and I still couldn't quit!

I grabbed ecigs like a drowning man grabs a life-preserver. I don't think a young person could really relate to that.

I instantly became old once I found out I was no longer invincible.
So, yeah, that happened about 3 years ago when I seperated my shoulder skiing.

I'm 44 now, and probably won't be jumping off any roofs just for fun anymore.

Gawd, I read the title of this thread and thought, "I'm too young to chime in" I guess not. I'm 50, started smoking at 13. Was off and on since then. Actually went through periods of several years off when I was a competitive endurance athlete, but whenever the cycling or swimming went by the wayside, I always found myself gravitating back to cigs. Sometimes as little as 4-5 a day, sometimes much more.

I'm going through a divorce and serious work stress the past few years and was up to around a pack a day, every day and I'm so glad I found these E-cigs. Actually one of my patients told me about them. (she didn't know I smoked) I have been smoke free since 5/11. The demons still tempt me, but less and less.

54 now. Started at 15 and like Mark Twain...quit a thousand times. Still very active hockey player (in 2 dif men's leagues, plus pick ups) and my stamina and windpower has improved 1000 percent! I'm athletic and in good shape. My only health threatening vice was smoking and they really had me locked up! Turned into a closet smoker and it really sucked!

I consider my switch to vaping as a serious life-prolonger!

This thread has turned out to be so much more than I expected as I've read the personal stories and of the lives that have been changed by these incredible devices. I hope more "old timers" continue to find this and let us know how e-cigs stopped, or at least radically slowed, a decades old killer habit.

I'm 56. I smoked for about 10 years in my early 20's - 30's, quit for almost 10 years, got back into it for about 15, and have now quit again with e-cigs. Personally I enjoy vaping, but am gradually moving down in nicotine level with in mind I'll quit altogether one of these days. It will be a lot easier if I can get my wife to quit. I bought her a joye, and she's tried it a couple of times, but just hasn't made the jump yet.

I'm 57 and smoked 2 PPD for over 40 years. I have tried everything to quit and have many times, once for a year but the problem was that EVERY day I wanted to smoke. 7 months ago my son showed up with a 510 for me and that day i tried it and smoked at the same time. when that pack was gone I just never bought anymore and today I don't want to smoke I started with 28 mg and now I mix my own juice and I am down to about 5mg. Vaping has also become a hobby for me with all the toys and mixing and a big and great part of the hobby is this forum.....THANK YOU TO EVERYONE

I'm 54 and smoked for over 40 years 2 1/2 PAD. I quit probably half a dozen times, longest period was 5 months. The thing is that during those periods of not smoking I was miserable! Also got very grumpy. Nobody wanted to be around me, heck, I didn't want to be around me.

Today, I am happier than I've been in years. I know that at least some of this happiness is because of this forum. I was the only smoker in my circle of friends. I carried around a lot of shame about my habit. It was not unheard of for me to *sneak* around to smoke. That didn't do much for my self-esteem.

So now, in my mid-50's I'm feeling like I have a whole new lease on life AND a whole new circle of friend who know just what I've been through.
