So as you may have read i just got my new vv battery mod, I took a few hits from my existing CE4 setup and it worked, not I just took another hit and OMG the most disgusting taste ever, it was like a burnt silicon taste coating my tongue, horrible horrible...What would cause this? Maybe my coil burnt up? There's no funky smells or heat or anything coming from the battery, and it still functions normally. Was using it at 4 volts, which is around what a standard ego runs on a full charge. So I assumed it was a safe voltage.

it's approximately 1-1.2 ohms ish maybe 1.4 I measured it by length since I don't have a multimeter atm. Its a wet wick and wicks great, been using it for almost 2 days now. and the vv says 4.00v on the display but who knows how accurate that is without actually testing it, but as I stated before, no multimeter.

EDIT: the standard ego-t as far as I've read everywhere is 3.7V and at full charge it's riht around 4.2

I started low and worked up to 4 volts. I know what a dry hit tastes like and this was way stronger tasting then some singed cotton. and my wick is fully soaked. like dripping wet. it's the same juice I've been vaping for a month+ now, so I'm just confused. Anyways I'm back from the hardware store so i'll finish my dismantling and inspect it.

It is common for people to not provide enough information for help.

What gauge wire, diameter and type of wick and pre-cleaning process of each (be detailed)? Microcoil or other method of wrapping around a screw or bit for even wraps or freehand wrap? If freehand, could you easily slide the coil along the wick?

Get a multimeter BEFORE wrapping coils.

It's a drillbit wrapped microcoil .4mm ribbon kanthal a-1 with cheesecloth thread wick. It's been fine up until now but I guess it got hotter then I'm used to as there doesn't appear to be any damage other then a scorched wick. It was just a wayy stronger scorched wick flavor then I'm used to so i assumed it was somethin else. thank you all for the time and effort put into helping me with this.

And yes I know a multimeter is a major necessity, but I'm poor and stupid so I'm disregarding that for now. I have faith in the battery failsafes, and I know how to measure ohms per inch with a ruler. So long as I stay in a safe range it's been all good so far.

I have experience with electronics and month of reading everything on the internet and watching all the videos about coils ohms watts and volts.

Meters : UNI-T UT10A Multimeter

Here is a fairly cheap and user friendly multimeter. You can not afford to not use one IMO as you will be taking a risk of damaging your equipment. So if you cant really afford to replace your mod or delivery devices a multimeter is pretty cheap insurance.

Just guessing even when its a educated guess is still a guess and there are consequences when the guess is wrong.

What size drill bit and how many wraps. I see you said CE4, are you sure? CE4 isn't made to be rebuilt (though it can be). I ask because that would make the third aspect I have no direct experience with (other 2 are microcoils and cheesecloth). I am just trying to make sure adequate information available to give you the best advice for your set up (outside of get a multimeter, but you made clear you understand that should have happened).

You also didn't tell me if you burned the oil off the kanthal before starting. Oil on both silica and kanthal is pretty disgusting after just a few puffs. I'm not sure about cheesecloth. The only tip I can give since I don't have experience with your set up is boiling but I don't know if that causes a problem for cheesecloth. If it is a CE4 you can boil the whole thing without the mouthpiece for about 2 minutes to get rid of the machining residue from the factory. If it is one with replaceable heads, just boil the head.

Another multimeter here: http://www.harborfreight.com/7-function-multimeter-98025.html
$5.29

We use this one and cross checked with a provari and all was well. I can't speak geek so this may not make sense..but with this one.. when you stick the two prongs together .. it read 0.6 .. so we subtracted .6 from the resistance reading

I'll just say that watching youtube does not make you any more informed in the regards to safe vaping... it depends on WHO you're watching. I've seen some pretty moronic stuff on there... so uhm.... yeah....Just make sure that the stuff you're watching is intelligent and not the latest "ZOMG LUK AT MAI KLOWDZ I BLOW!"

Alright, since you posted the disclaimer I won't go off about how you should have a multimeter (or at least a mod that DOES check ohms for you), but let say for arguments sake that it IS a 1 ohm coil. I don't know what mod you have, but most regulated VV/VW mods don't like anything that low, so you are playing with fire a bit. Literally.

I'm NOT** an electrical engineer, but as near as I can figure, if you're firing a 4v battery at 1 ohm, that's somewhere in the ballpark of 16 watts? Most VW devices don't particularly "like" that range, and I can't think of many liquids that would be good in that range either.

If its a 1.2 ohm coils, its 13 watts and some change

1.4 ohm coil is a 11 watts and some change.

Note that at 1ohm, you're drawing 4amps off that battery, so its going to drain fast, and might not be safe either, as the switch on your device might not be able to handle that many amps... (once again, I don't know your device, so I don't know which batts it uses... I'm assuming it is NOT an EGO type though, or at least I hope it isn't.)

I just want you to be safe, so I'm sorry if I'm coming across as a "nitpicky-finger-wagging-don't-do-this-type", I just want you to be fully informed of the risks you are taking by not having that multimeter... and for anyone else that reads this thread as well that might not know already....Vape safe.

**This is MY Disclaimer that these figures might be incorrect**

I full understand the setup and thank you again for bein interested in the safety of your fellow vapers guys. I think it's really amazing how this community works at ECF, with most if not all people looking out for one another instead of reckless disregard for your fellow humans and wanton trolling like most forums.

I have that multimeter. I got it for free for setting foot in Harbor Freight. Only problem is it isn't so good at reading Ohms in the lowest resolution setting. It really jumps around a lot. I'd return mine if it wasn't free.
