That would be cross posting and that is a no-no. ;)
If you see a need for this to be seen in the New Members section, post a link to this thread. That would work also. Probably better. In the new members section, things drop to the back pages very quickly.

Thx, kinda far fetch their with the cross posting though lol. Just sayin in general its good for new members to see heh.

Yeah fish, that happens; happened yesterday as a matter of fact; guy just figured a lady was lying about the death of 2 cats, wanted the thread closed, and so he just trolled the thread with attitude and got it closed;

I wish he hadn't - I was really interested in hearing what the results were from the testing she had done. :(

ppppddddddddhhphh. this thread's climax has flopped over like a long balloon with a slow leak.

Fireproof charging bags are encouraged for unattended charging batteries. Now we all know what can happen!
Please read up on battery safety in the sticky at the top of every forum here on ecf.
May your groove's not melt, your tooths not chip, and your houses not burn to the ground.

Goodnight everyone!!! <3

Most batteries are rated for one year. I have noticed that the 1 year mark is exactly when the internal voltage begins to drop so I definitely believe the rating system is 100% genuine.

No battery is rated for one year. Lithium ion, all the different rechargeable types, degrade over time even when they are not being used, but that's a slow process and will not be significant over the course of one year. What does age these batteries are charge/discharge cycles, heat and high discharge rates. Run them to shutoff every time running 2 ohm coils and they should give you 250 cycles. If that happens in 2 months or 2 years makes very little difference.

I gave my original Joyetech eGo 650 mAh battery and Joyetech charger to my daughter last year and she still uses it once in a while. It's two years old now and probably has 150 charges on it. It still lasts well between charges and I'm not worried about its safety with that charger.

What do you mean by internal voltage?

I accidentally put an ego on a 510 cigsized charger. I'm lucky it didn't go kabloom. Got really hot. Learned my lesson.

I used to charge eGo size batts on a cigalike charger sometimes last year also; I assumed it would just take longer to charge, not stress the battery. I even assumed it would be a safer charge.

Glad this had a relatively happy ending.

I think I would have had a much more lax attitude about these batteries and chargers had I not read tons of posts here about battery safety. It seems that almost every explosion or fire I've read about has been directly related to using a charger other than the one specifically made for that battery. I charge my 18650's in a cake pan but probably should cover it with something. My iTastes I don't take any precautions with, and probably should. Incidentally, the iTaste manual specifically states not to charge it from the ego/501 end, it has a mini usb plug for charging.

That's pathetic :glare: I had someone accuse me of trolling when I very first started posting on ecf. Anyone familiar with my posts know I'm definitely a dork:rickroll: But troll? no sir.I take vaping seriously and I take ecf seriously. Even more so now after today's events.

The voltage when you test the battery with a tester. If you'd like to explain how it can begin to sag, go ahead. Sounds like you know more than me. But what I have read a lot, is that our batteries are usually rated for 1 year of regular use, which is X amount of charge cycles to be more precise. I have definitely noticed that batteries last around 1 year from purchase. All of my Provari's first batteries died 1 year from the time I purchased them. They all either stopped charging up to 4.2 volts or their voltage dropped very quickly right after charging them.

Try the Joye ego Upgrade Passthrus next time. Lotsa safety circuitry and the charger is built-in :)

I retire mine after a year, but I have one daily used that went 1-1/2yrs, no problems.

Not sure, to date, I've heard of an ego explosion w/o it being user error/abuse/cheap-knockoff.

OK battery experts, I see two things in this thread that cause me concern about my own habits:

    1. My ego came with usb charger but no wall plug. I plug it into my AC/USB adapter from my Kindle. Is this bad?

    2. I always use my ego until it dies, completely, then recharge it. Is this also bad? If so, how long should it be used instead before re-charging?

#2 is a definite bad; these lithium battery are better off not getting down too low too often. Its the reverse of alot of those earlier cellphone batteries.

so glad you are alright fishee!!! Wow. glad no one got hurt!

Thank you chapeltown, It was definitely alarming but thank goodness no one or myself was injured. The burnt spot on my floor will be a constant reminder that things can go wrong very fast, and that things need to be done in their proper manner.

It can certainly happen when pressing the firing button. Sounds like your an IMR battery type of person.
Hope your main PV isn't an MVP or a smoktech Groove, they have the same type of battery.
Fortunatelly no. My main devices are a VTR, coolfire1, and an SVD.
Im giving serious tought about telling my girl to discontinue use of that ego battery.
