I wonder if anyone (I'm looking at you, those suppliers out there who need to prove there's a "benefit to vaping" beyond harm reduction for nic addicts in order to get your products passed by the FDA under the new deeming rules) has considered the benefits of vaping in re weight loss / control? For those of us with a wicked sweet tooth (like me), vaping has already helped me drop 20 lbs. without any extra effort at all, just by keeping my insulin levels under control and the severe drop in sugar/carbs in my diet. Just sayin...
You know, I have a lifelong friend who was always at least as skinny as me. She quit smoking many years back. She now weighs twice as much as I do. She replaced smoking with lots of unhealthy snacking. I'd sure rather see her vaping and at a normal weight than with all the health risks she is taking by being so overweight. I'm afraid for her.

Yes! I took it earlier. It is really a great comprehensive survey. I even offered to comment on skype if necessary since they asked.

I took part in the University of Virginia survey. Well, the first part. Then I discovered that the project director was the same doofus that snuck air monitoring equipment into a vape meet, called water vapor "Airborne Particulates" (it's not, unless rain will kill us), and concluded in his study that second hand vapor was then, undesirable, and vaping should be restricted only to the same places that smoking was allowable.

In addition, when I read some of the idiotic responses to the question in stage 1 "How does vaping make you feel", I realized that if his intentions in the study were as nefarious as his previous behavior exhibited, he was going to have plenty of ammo without my input. Continuing further, I___just___couldn't.

I hear ya on that. I was so pleasantly surprised with this survey. I hope everyone fills it out.

Regarding 510 connectors:
'Flashlights' with 510 connectors are very likely to fall into the category of ENDS, and that does mean that they would not be legal for sale in this country.
However, FT selling them would still be legal, and my guess is that a package labeled 'flashlight' is FAR more likely to make it through customs than one labled 'e cigarette'.

Regarding mail order:
One simple amendment to the PACT Act (google it) and its game over.
That amendment could come at any time, and would affect all states.
I live in NYS, so I'm stocking up as fast as I possibly can, but don't think that just because you live in a free state that it can't happen to you.

I've only been vaping just over a month, and I've gone from not really knowing anything about vaping to using mech mods and building my own coils.
I have built five coils so far, and all of them are still working perfectly.

I have compiled a list of gear to buy, and I'm getting five identical tanks, five identical mech mods, many, many spare parts, and a liter of nicotine for around $250.

It's not difficult and it's not even all that expensive - $250 is less than most of us spent on cigarettes per month.

If none of this comes to pass (and that is looking increasingly unlikely) then I will still have everything I bought, and will still be able to use it, so it is impossible to lose either way.

If the regs stick, I will be REALLY happy that I took precautions.

No matter what happens over the next couple of years, you can be sure that vaping will never be as cheap as it is right now.
Wouid you be willing to share your prepping list with the group, for reference?

It's cheaper to buy the full liter of V 3 then 2- 500 of the v2. It's just odd. You would think the v3 would be more. Maybe the liter is easier for them than 2-500.
The more expensive is $135 and comes in glass bottles; the less expensive is $115 and is in plastic. At least that's what just happened to me when I ordered. All in 500ml bottles, not liters.

Just to be clear, that $250 liter of nicotine mentioned is likely the equivalent of FIVE liters of the 200mg/ml maximum that we are allowed to discuss here, per that UBER-ridiculous rule that prevents us from mentioning

nicotine. No, ya chode, I didn't mention

nicotine. So that would be the equivalent of $25 per 100mg liter.

You really need to look in the DIY forums, a lot of this stuff already exists there. Also, a ton of stuff on Shapeways already available, but I dont know if they will be post deeming. Search DNA on shapeways for eaxmple.

There are lots of How To in this section: Modding Forum

Here is my first Mod
The "WeekEnder"

Mods from a lot of folks.
Mike n Tibs DNA Mods!
I realize there's some of this here, but as I mentioned in my post, it's widely scattered and a lot of newer tech isn't covered. I'd really like to know how to build a full-on TC/VV/VW from parts I'll still be able to get after 8/8. My point is only that having it both in ONE place, more complete, AND written with how the parts world will likely look after 8/8 in mind might be a good thing. And links to (better yet, reposting the files before they get pulled) those same useful shapeways projects - having them in one place - might really be useful.

make it limited posting, only the managers post,, if someone has something to add,, they submit it to the managers to review then post/upload (with credit to the op of course)
I think that would be awesome. Not a discussion thread but a straight case study / tutorial format. Very focused and easy to find things.

Exactly. That's def where I'd be if it weren't for vaping!

Somewhere out there
It's really not that bad though, if we break it down into sub-topics like mechs, temp regulator chips, motherboard, power supply, hardware, RTAs, etc. The Maker community is HUGE already, and plenty of those ppl vape or would be interested in helping if they were engaged. I've looked inside the guts of a hexohm, and it's just not that complicated from an electronics POV.

I'm 100% certain there are plenty of hobbyists, makers, modders and engineers out there that would participate, if they just knew of the interest and need - probably many that are already vaping. I mean these are REALLY simple circuits for the most part - or can be. Especially if we start with building mech mods or simpler VVs like the hexohm first, and work our way up.

All I'm asking is not to be discouraged before we've even seen if it could work. I really think it can, and believe me someone will do it. I just hate to see it happen somewhere else besides ECF.
When I first came to ECF people were making Altoid vapers, and tube mods and it was all the rage to DIY mods, it is probably all still here in the archives under modders.

This is where I started with mods, my Altoids box used three AA nimh cells in series, it later got converted to an 18490 cell, and still functions to this day... just a battery, and atomizer, and a momentary switch... This was the entry point for me into the rabbit hole :) Thank You SteelJan, you may never know how many folks you helped, but I am one of them...

Too much stuff and too many possible directions for the topic. A single thread would rapidly be so mired with information that it would become useless. There already is the modders sub-forum here on the board.
I didn't suggest a single thread... I said "...if we break it down into sub-topics like mechs, temp regulator chips, motherboard, power supply, hardware, RTAs, etc..." which is different than how this kind of info is organized now.

I have not thought about those Altoid can mods or SteelJan in years! :)

I think these kinds of mods are great, don't get me wrong. Especially as a starting point. But I'd like to see it get more sophisticated than this. Wouldn't you like to be able to vape on something equivalent to the best we have available to us now, but have control over the means of production, so it can't be taken away from you? I sure would. I don't think I'm the only one. Plus the opportunity for expression and innovation is huge. So if you want to vape on 5 watts with an altoids tin, that's awesome! But there could be other options too.
