I don't think this question will get a single straight answer..

Specific to the orion, "I" like to split the difference. Moderately thick walls with enough of an opening to fit a small paperclip through.

Personally, I find my answer to this varies by device, in addition to the obvious personal preference. :2c:

What is better, a tight almost solid core wick, or a straw type hollow wick?

Emonty: Is the #500 thinner compared to #400?

It has more 100 more holes per linear inch but probably not noticeably so I'm guessing. Most people have to hold it up to a light to tell the difference.

According to 'bj43's (and 'emonty's) experiments, a solid core wick of 500 mesh has the best capillary action.

I just got my 500 mesh yesterday. My current set up is doing great so I will wait till it stops firing. Then I will use my new mesh to see the difference for myself.
Question about the Orion touch sensor. Has anyone had it stop working? If so is it an easy fix? Is there anything I can do to prevent it from not working? I can't imagine being without my Orioon. I have been taking it to work where I can only sneak a few vapes in the ladies room. It seems to deliver more nicotine per hit than anything else I have.

All issues with the switch have been attributed to juice running down the center pole. The common pattern seems to be with folks not keeping them upright. I did have one stop working and is an easy replacement, getting the replacement itself is the long pole in the tent.

Thanks, Turbo. I'm using #400 and rolled according to the #500 specs (That is, a solid core with barely enuff space for a needle!). It works just fine, though with this new found belief with #500 ss mesh, it's gonna work excellently!! Time to go out and source for #500!!!

So I've been stalking here for a while waiting for my used once Orion V2.1 to show up.

It's fantastic. Really loving it. Sanded down the tank a little more to get the airhole over to the other wick hole. I wanted to use my thumb to press the button. With the wick at 6 o'clock the button is at 3 o'clock. I know most people seem to prefer the button at 9 o'clock but this works for me. Found the spare Katana tanks are the same OD/ID and I have a lot of those so if I change my mind I can cut one down to size.

Rolled a 3/4 wrap of twisted 34 AWG. Pretty impressive. Never tried a twisted coil on any other genesis but people have been raving about it so I gave it a shot. Did a 32 AWG 3/4 wrap to start off with. It was very good but I think I prefer the twisted coil for initial flavor and vapor. I'll see what it looks like when it breaks in.

Overall pretty impressive device. Are most of you siliconing the inside of the tube or it's not necessary? I know some have after switch failures. Still not sure I want to do it. Seems that Les had a solution with some sort of tube as well covering the inside of the entire thread. That also seems like a very good option.
