In another thread, there was talk of examining your atomiser, without dismantling it, by using a magnifying glass and a light. This is very difficult to do.
The answer is to buy an otoscope (the instrument a doctor uses to look inside your ear). They aren't expensive and give an excellent view of the wicking bridge and the extreme ends of the coil.
They can be obtained cheaply on ebay, such as this (The one I bought):
