I too was puzzled by the farm truck metaphor. Never having spent time on a farm, I visualize a beat-up pickup truck, such as was included by one of the posters in this thread. And the Carlos juice Box deserves to be honored (as it was in the Vapy Awards) for being first: a major breakthrough in vaping. [Yes, I am aware of such devices as the mAhmba and UPAC, but they never moved out of the modders forums.]
PM me if you want tips to include photos in your reviews. It's really easy and it does add oomph to one's writing ... especially when communicating with ECFers.

The farm truck analogy is high praise; you city slickers just don't realize it.
I did put the CJB as the first 3rd gen, but GG's Imeo strongly took issue with it, saying this AFS mk1 was the first commercially available 3rd gen.
BTW, I did take Carlos to task about how sales, support and service of his mod was handled, but I don't hate the mod. Matter of fact, I'm vaping it now. Once you've got your technique down and the puppy warmed up, it's a nice little vape.
Sent you a PM, would LOVE some help in getting my pictures online. ECF won't accept ones I've taken with my digital camera, but seems to have no problem with snaps taken with the macbook's built in cam. Thanks!
BTW, when I donate my review units to local folks in need of them, I always insist that they read your guide to vaping first. It's saved me a lot of aggravation, thanks.
Well, thank God the review is in already, and it's limited to 3rd gens. Met a friend yesterday morning, and he showed me his chuck.
They've been around forever, but I've never had a chance to try one before. My friend's using his at 3.7v with a 18650 battery and a 510 atty w/blue foamed carts.
It was smaller than I expected. After seeing all the avatars and chuck pron on ecf, it seemed like it should have been twice the size it actually was.
It was heavy for it's little size. Even though its aluminum sides looked no thicker than any other 2nd gen, it just felt so heavy and solid. Maybe those brass end pieces are brass covered lead. Nice little vape at 3.7, too. I pulled out a spare IMR 18650 battery and let him try that; looks like he'll be on ebay sometime this weekend.
The switch is at the top of the mod, which felt kind of wierd to me. And after using the essentially solid brass bolt of the ggts hundreds of times to get a vape, the switch on the chuck looked and felt very frail and delicate. The top atty cap wouldn't come off, and the switch assembly was covered by a plastic disc on the other side of the tube, sort of Thag's way of telling users of the mod that they had no business being in there.
I thanked him for letting me see a chuck for the first time, and complimented him on his mod. I queried him about the switch, and asked him if it was strictly mechanical and if it was user serviceable or replaceable; he didn't know. My friend admitted he had some doubts about the switch standing up to extended repeated use, but pointed out the mod's excellent rep and thag's reputation for customer service. He concluded that it wasn't exactly a GG, but was a damned good vape for eighty bucks.

The inside guts of the Chuck are similar to the FogLog mod...basic wiring...and yeah..I was WAY stoked about the custom graphics of the Chuck..but never could get with the switch..it just seemed wrong. I had similar switch on my FogLog..but redid the cap and put a 901/808D connector and a mini-switch on top of the cap(aka mini-vapestack style) and I like it much better now. I was also able to shorten the whole mod by a good inch with switch on top.

I have to agree. I think I see what the author was going for with this metaphor but it can be misleading. I guess its the " beat-up pickup truck" reference that I object to the most. The REO (and can maybe said about other wood mods) is beautiful woodwork craftsmanship. Though I was one in high school woodshop whos bookshelf ended up as an ashtray
I can still appreciate the good look of the REO. As for flooding in which I qualify as an expert....over pumping the juice bottle is easy to fix with a couple of big draws.
I'd like to check some of the units out. Can you guys post links to who sells all these 3rd gen mods? It'd really be helpful for all of us!

I own a GGTS with AFS-1, CJB, Reo and Kaji
I was initially a fan of the GG range, but my GGTS (1st version) quickly developed speckled markings which were difficult to remove. The AFS version 1 when it worked was quite wonderful. But intermittant reliability, constant fiddling and overall bulk with GG and leakage worked against it. My GG pass-through also failed after little use.
I took a risk with the CJB (knowing the problems others had experienced). Have to say and may have been fortunate but have had only minor issues with it. As others point out the atty on this is a gem. It's so uniquely flavoursome and amazes you that it can produce volumes of vapour from a low voltage device. I'm dreading the day it actually goes to atty heaven, but so far (and his is 3 months) haven't had any problems. I don't take the device out since it's plastic and I would HATE to drop it and see it broken. Furthermore, I haven't seen the device available for sale for many, many weeks and wonder if thery're ever going to be available again?
The Reo is bulky, quite beautiful but solid (perhaps on the too bulky side to carry around). However, its bulk instills confidence and would take the odd knock. I have to agree with the other member who mentioned that the feeding pipe isn't as good as the Kaji's in vaping use. Though it is less fiddly to change bottles than the Kaji.
The Kaji is more portable and I find vaping quality as mentioned better on it than the Reo. The wood is elegant and reasonably solid, though not as robust as the thicker wood on the Reo. It seems that after pressing the juice button the vape lasts longer than the Reo and is slightly more flavoursome. QUITE how this occurs I couldn't explain since they're both basically of similar design. The piping is different on both models, however.
So what we all want is a variable voltage, beautiful but robust and portable self feeding device with a unique, flavoursome unbreakable atty.. Can't see that hapenning tomorrow, but we can dream can't we?

I thought I saw a posting awhile back where a supplier here was selling the Carlos Juice Boxes again...? And, was even offering replacement attys ?
I'll have to check into that...as i have one that isnt working so great...The other one i have is still vaping like a charm...but i find myself only using it occasionally because i dont want anything to happen to it.

Just to update those reading this the Kaji now comes in a regulated 5v version as well and also has the option for a 6ml bottle with only a small increase in box size.
Wonderful! I think 6ml is a great 'all day' bottle size. The bottle on the Kaji is a bit of a PITA compared to the Reo, but the larger size would offset that by quite a bit.
And wow, the CJB is for sale again. Best of all, there's no mention on the item description for a wait. Still really liking mine, though I've fit a slimmer 6ml bottle onto it.
The second version of the GGTS has been released with a much lighter, corrosion resistant aluminum. I've had to sit that release out so far (kind of hard to justify buying a new one with two perfectly functioning ones), but I did get an aluminum telescoping tube for one of my 09's. The tube, made out of the same aluminum as the new ts's, is so light and shiny that it almost feels plastic-ey, but it's held up well so far.
I originally knocked my first ggts because of it's tendency to tarnish so easily, but I'm now used to giving it a weekly polish.
GG has now released a version of the AFS specifically for the GGTS. Haven't had a chance to get my hands on that yet, though I have managed to obtain a pre-release prototype which I've called the AFS-Grande. My Grande vapes well, though it suffers from minor leakage or seepage problems. I have to emphasize that no such problems have been reported by other users so far on the released version.

I'm expecting the latest version of the GGTS (#805) and an AVS on Tuesday, I'm really looking forward to trying it, I also bought the magnetic switch upgrade.
I really can't justify popping the money for a new model with two perfectly functioning ggts'es already in my hands. Call it the 'stride gum' effect. And unless one gets run over by a cement truck, I can fix any problem with them myself, or buy a spare part.
The new model does have an adjustable draw for any atty with adapters, but I'm too spoiled to go back to 2nd generation vaping unless it is a dire emergency.
I will get a AVS upgrade for one of them so I can carry it out and about without leakage or seepage.
There was one tempest in a teapot when someone compared the new model very unfavorably with his 09 version, but that seems to have died down. Most new users report liking the increased gloss and lighter weight of the newest release. I suspect that I'm too used to my older ones and would prefer the heft of the old one to the lighter, newer model.
And it's probably no surprise to know that the AFS, when it's functioning properly, is my favorite vape. No squeezing, no guesswork, just suck-suck -suck. That, and it's ability to handle either regular or high voltage vaping easily, especially when using perforated cartos.
I thought about the magnetic switch upgrade, but can't cognitively justify the expense since I can easily cannibalize a cheap ball point pen and use the spring in an emergency. Having done that on one of them, I actually prefer the stiffer action on it.

Only thing that would improve the OP is links to the products, Google searches actually tend to link right back here (And in some cases, to this exact thread again heh).
GREAT comparison, great reviews and information... I'm pretty new to vaping (about 2 weeks) and love it. I have an eGo right now and it's great, but would like to know if you guys recommend the jump to a 3rd gen? I have looked at other 2nd gen models and they're on my list as well (little sister, fist pack, precise p18 etc...)

Can't go wrong with either the Kaji or Reo for self feeders. I do high drain 18650s with a LR atty--my favorite being the LR306 from inhaler. 6ml bottle and 18650--means all day vape with no hassle. I always pack an extra atty, battery and juice bottle--but have never used one yet.
I use my ego with a carto for social situations that require something that looks a bit more like a cig.
I am thinking that as ecigs catch on all I will need will be one of my boxes.
