I got 2 passthroughs. One for the 401 and one for the 901. I killed both of them after 1 day. The 401 worked great on my laptop, but when I took it home and attached it to my desktop usb powered hub it went on and stayed on and killed my atty. It was an automatic. So I got a manual 901 and attached it to my desktop powered hub and it worked fine for the hour I used it. Next day I tried it and it would not work. Changed attys....nothing...just blinking orange. (it was green when it worked)
What am I doing wrong? Is it the powered hub? Are they bad passthroughs?
If so, is there a better kind to get? Any help would be greatly appreciated! ;)

The pass-thourghs from China are pretty cheap and there have many reports of them breaking after light use. It would also help if you had a steady power source so I would suggest getting a usb wall outlet adapter similar to this one:

Amazon.com: Coby CA81 Dual USB Power Adapter/Charger (White): Everything Else

The strongest pass-through made is the one on the puresmoker site. He uses much stronger gauge wire and provides a 6 month warranty.

I just had a 901 usb pt that broke after one day - literally came apart when I was trying to remove the atty for the first time. I am getting it replaced and actually ordered a 2nd which I shall encase in glass and use only in emergencies ;-)

Seriously, I would pay more for one that was made better. If I am home - then I am not far from a computer so they are ideal for me but if they don't last then it's not worth it. Oh, and I would bet on the hub being the culprit in your case. I had one that was putting out too much voltage or something and killed a couple external HD's before I realized the problem.

laurieok;
The link that wv2win gave you is a great looking deal. I like the double USB slots. Might get one my self.
Jim, go for it - you'll like it. I keep four of them plugged in so I'm ready to go throughout the house.

At $10, I'd grab it... sometimes Amazon raises the price to $15.

8-o Killed a couple hard drives, the horror 8-o Not sure if I'd be more upset if it blew my hard drives (2x 1tb) or my m201. :(
