Several years ago, hubby and I used the patch to "quit" (40 years of smoking for each of us). It worked for the nic addiction, but it didn't work for the "I love to smoke" addiction. I made it eight months, but then found out hubby was "cheating" and that's all it took to start again. No harm no foul, just the facts!

Almost a year ago, I started researching e-cigs and found this forum. I ordered a couple of starter kits, asked some questions here and started to commence to begin to quit again. hehehe Though there's tremendous support and response here, I decided that measuring nic levels was just something I didn't want to mess with, so I planned to use the patch to step down off the nicotine and e-cigs to handle the "I love to smoke" part -- probably forever. Time passed until...

Two weeks ago, I put on a nic patch and fired up my e-cigs. I'm on an extended trip to visit family (who don't smoke, but are very supportive), so it was a good change of scene and routine time. And it's working!

The other day I visited with an 80 something friend of the family who had to quit smoking and is on oxygen. We chatted a bit about how she misses smoking. I guess only another smoker would understand. I've ordered her a kit to see if it might help.

Anyways, for anyone who might not want to mess with handling nicotine, the patch does work for that (at least for me) and e-cigs do replace the rest of the habit. A few more weeks and I'll be free of the nicotine, but this time the pleasure of "smoking" is not gone forever. It's actually been replaced with something better... not smelly, dirty, sooty, polluting, etc. and I can do it just about anywhere without harming others.

Most folks seem to use the nic juices, but thought some might benefit from knowing the non-nic juice works, too, for all the non-nic reasons to smoke.

thanks to all for the help I've gotten lurking here!

I recently quit smoking by using the patches. I'm only here to sell a kit someone gave me as a gift that I never used, but have to have 10 posts. lol Anyway, the patches do work for withdraw symptoms but don't do much for the mental aspect of not smoking anymore. I was too scared of using an e-cig because it may have the opposite effect, it may remind me too much of smoking. lol
