Too much time on my hands, but just musing...

Why is it suggested that you not mention ecigs in your Paypal transactions here or risk getting your PP account suspended, yet the only way to pay for a vaping item on ebay is with Paypal?

Also, if a deal in the FS forum here goes sideways and you have to file a PP dispute - don't you risk suspension of your PP account once you disclose what the item was that you never received or was misrepresented in some way?

Discuss.

I get the impression that enforcement is erratic on Paypal. My guess is that they are a bit conflicted. They make their money through people buying stuff, but they are probably under pressure to play the game and stay away from nicotine. So they write a rule but try not to enforce it too much. Pushing customers out the door isn't a great way to make money.

No idea about dispute resolution procedures. It has to involve greater scrutiny though.

But still, how is it that they turn a completely blind eye to vaping equipment on ebay? Certainly they know, since the items are being sold regularly and the only way to pay is via Paypal. Isn't that a blatant violation of PP policy?

And if it only applies to nic/eliquid why do we have to be clandestine with our hardware transactions here?

With eBay you have to state that it doesn't contain nicotine. You can sell most anything on eBay with the right disclaimer in the listing. Besides eBay for the most part only takes down listings that someone complains about. They use that for enforcement plus some bot searching but mostly only act on complaints.

That said there are listings on eBay for nic juice that flies under the radar.

PayPal has a policy against tobacco products, among other things. Since vape products have been deemed tobacco products they are a no-no in their eyes. This applies domestically, not internationally. You can use PP to buy vape stuff from China or Europe, just not within the US. You have to love consistency.

Keep in mind that pornography, satanism, and a host of other truly hateful things are OK with them, just not pieces of stainless steel that have been politically deemed to be a plant. Makes perfect sense, right? :grr::facepalm:

They deal with so many transactions a day that they can't possibly pay attention to what every sale is,but if they do happen to catch it,they suspend that sellers pp account on the spot.I bought a mod off ebay last year, the lady selling them had around 100 available, and was selling them at a great price,so they were selling very good.I bought the mod the night before i got paid because she was getting low on them, and sent a messege saying i would pay for it before i left for work the next morning.Apparently the high sales she was having caught the attention of someone at pp,because the next morning,i could not pay her,i contacted her and she said pp had locked her account because of selling "tobacco products".

Just because something is "against the rules" doesn't mean that the rule maker has to enforce it. There are cities and states that have archaic laws that were passed for a reason that is long gone and the law remains, just not enforced. For instance in Carmel, Calif., there is a ban on high heels more than 2 inches (5 centimeters) high or with less than a one-square-inch base. Also in North Dakota it is technically illegal for a bar/restaurant to serve a patron both beer and pretzels. They can only serve one OR the other to any patron. I doubt either of these are enforced.
