Folks look.

I made this thread to suggest that maybe pictures of children smoking was a bad idea.

I never have nor will tell anyone to change their avatar. Nor do I think people should be forced to change their avatar for ANY reason.

I thought as a group, it could be good to talk about the issue. But instead we got a firestorm of people acting like I just ...... on a coffee table in a Starbucks.

I liked the avatar of the kid giving the finger. I thought it was fine and still should be used.

I have no issue with offensive avatars but I love e-cigs and if I thought changing my avatar even had a slight chance of helping the cause I would do it instantly.

Well your avatar of Johnny Depp playing the role of George Jung in Blow so I guess that makes us all drug dealers too :p lol figured I would get BG back for u guys.....

Oh, please. So, now we must watch what we post because someone might be browsing the forum with a 4 year old? That sounds very much like the work of the anti smokers. This is an ADULT forum. The avitar is gone. Your daughter is safe.

No Sherid, you dont have to worry. As I said..."not a big deal". I also said to put your avitar back up. I couldnt care less. It was the larger point of my post I was hoping you and others would understand. People make rational suggestions, but others automatically assume its an attack on their "right to..." or their "freedom of expression..." Like its a personal issue? Of course, now you have shown that if someone were to post that their 4 year old saw an offensive post, you would be one of the ones to dispute it. Its all good. I have no problem with you sir, or your avitar. I really liked the pope one the best though:thumb:
My best,

Oh gosh. . . I am so bothered by this. Who the heck cares, really? If it bothers SJ, he'll take it down. Really. The OP made his opinion known, but the idea that we must take down anything offensive is so absolutely disgusting to me. I'm so tired of this whole PC thing, I can't even convey it enough.

There are so many things on here that is potentially offensive. Boston George is a guy with long hair. Offensive. You had that sneer in your old avatar. Offensive. I had Muhammed in my signature. Offensive. There are women with breasts. Offensive. Geesh. when does it stop? When we just have solid-colored squares? Then someone will say red is offensive.

Im sorry I've bothered you Kendra. The larger point to my post was exactly what you've stated. Who the hell cares. BG posted his position calmly and in a rational manner. My problem is with the people who take suggestions as a personal attack on their forum freedoms. Its not, and the fact that some take it as such, is childish at best. Take a suggestion, agree or disagree with the OP's reasons for it, and move on. (and who has womens breasts as avitars??:)) Hope that helps clear it up a bit. This is not a debate I care to get into really. You of all people know that I am a pretty open minded dude, my point to Sherid about my daughter was only for dramatic purposes. Although I did have her on lap the other day while I looked at the forum. An infant flipping the bird is the least of my worries.
My best,
-VP

Someone beat me to it a few posts before, BG is.... We should all "request" he change his avatar, not a good role model for kids, specially on an "adult" site.. PFT People, stand up for your rights, and for God's sake, dont back down! This is ridiculous.. Im so tired of spineless jellyfish caving in to the "majority" thought census..

A perfect example of the very mindset I have been talking about. He even went to the name calling I alluded to in my first post here... because someone 1. has a different position than you, and 2. prefers to be a bit more peacable and tactfull ... they are labled spinless???? Thank you HD for proving my point.

If someone wants mud to sling at us, the least of our concerns will be avatars, I think it was silly to ask (nicely or not) the forum to even be worried about it (and I dont and never did have a kid in my avatar!)...which is my entire point, we cant be free to post here, not honestly anyway, if we are worried about what some random reader might be reading or seeing. It renders the forum useless if we censor ourselves at every turn. {hello random reader...waves...}
If you dont like it, dont look. As human beings we have the option to not look at stuff. Unlike the poor creatures that dont have eyelids.

Just curious...your siggy, while unoffending to me, has to be offensive to some here...would it not bother you if someone asked you, albeit nicely, to take it down? Not even a little? Will you remove it if someone asks?

People are so petty. Does anyone really think that someone's avatar on an internet forum has the potential to significantly impact what the FDA does or does not do?

The number of posts popping up suggesting that forum members "walk on eggshells" as to not upset our regulating superiors is getting ridiculous (As if doing so will actually make a difference anyway).

People need to stop being so ..... Who needs a government to control us when we control ourselves? Absolutely unbelievable...

Ultimately this is a privately owned forum and if the owners/moderators feel that posts/avatars are against the spirit or purpose of the forum, they have every right to remove them or kindly request you to change the offending comment/picture.

In response to the argument that this violates your constitutional right to freedom of speech, there is nothing saying you can't post what ever you want in your own forum but if you joined this forum you agreed to adhere by the guidelines of the forum and what the moderators feel is appropriate and pertinent content/language.

This is a UK based forum. If any picture depicts any UK laws being broken the mods should remove it.

As far as Im aware , the lower age to actually smoke is 16 years. to purchase is 18 years.

picture of a smoking minor therefore depicts a UK law being broken.

That's my view on it anyhow. Frankly i couldn't give a monkey's uncle what people have as an avatar.

The OP is not a mod. Hope this helps.
