Oh, BTW, since GoodDog mentioned letting a juice sit. Does that mean actually sit still the whole time or do you move the bottle around vs shake, to keep the stuff mixed?

Thanks

:cool:
The flavours need about 12 hrs or so to completely become suspended in the base. When you are mixing (developing recipes) you are not getting the full flavour of the juice as there is hot spots in the mix. Maybe it's 4 hrs, who cares, to me it's a moot point. I go back to it the next day for various reasons:

  • while testing your taste buds are saturated IMO, with whatever (the whatever is insignificant) IMHO;
  • the flavours haven't fully blended;
  • your brain isn't clogged or biased; and
  • not only have you got a fresher perspective, the juice had time to blend thoroughly.
AAMOF, we often recive juices from our suppliers that taste better days/weeks after initial delivery, that is probably due to the fact that some vendors mix/order, vice ahaead of time. AAMOF I often treat my left overs like a partial gallon of paint, to ensure flavour consistency by mixing them together (read same vendor).

There is nothing wrong with shking the bottle occasionally whatever. I always shake before using a bottle anyway.

When I am at the final stages of "tuning a recipe" I will often go days without touching it, before making the final adjustments. I've been playing around for 3 weeks with a Cuban Cigar blend.

This is very good information indeed for all DIY persons. I'm new to DIY and have made some good juice that I enjoy. I have found at least 12 hours before you should even think about taking a sample vape of your juice. I use mostly VG as my base and I'm pretty sure the flavor takes longer to homogenize in a thicker liquid. I've learned from my mistakes on this.

Here's a tip Gary you may or may not already use. A quick 10seconds in the microwave provides a better transition.

I discovered this (remembered) when I tried to suck VG up a standard 18g needle. It didn't work. Even nuking VG it is still pretty stiff.

As folks know, since all my mixes start from a pre-determined base, 10 secs in the MW provides good results. (read 6mls) I haven't tried with smaller qties.

I agree! I work hard on my recipes and I want to be able to reproduce what I create. I always wait a day or two or longer before I pass final judgment on a new mix. Very often I find that I initially mixed it too strong.

I also notice that the color and viscosity can change over time. Colors become often become richer (sometimes they fade) and the liquids often thicken up a bit.

Sometimes I will drop a 6 ml bottle into a mug filled with very hot water and leave it to cool. It seems to speed the process somewhat. In any case, I always try to mix liquids at least a couple of days before I will need it. :)

Hey Switched, can you direct me to the thread you explain how you like to do your base, please? :) I'm being really dumb when it comes to figuring out how to make a non-nic base and test it. It all changes when I add the PG-nic. Ohhhh, I know us noobs are a PITA!! :cry:

It is rather simple, if you know your way around Dan's calculator, but here is a simpler one because a base is simple.

Use the water entry for your VG % entry as I do not use water in my bases nor do I use flavouring. So water = whatever VG I want, and flavouring I use 0%. You read your recipe on the bottom chart.

To make 10mls of 25mg with a 75/25 PG/VG base from 50mg juice:

5mls 50mg nic juice PG based 50%
2.5mls PG 25%
2.5 mls VG 25%

From there 20% falvour represents a 5mg loss in nic, which is cool because I vape at 18-20mg anyway. For certain juices (morning and after dinner) I use a 30mg base, which will render 24mg at 20% flavour.

I'll take the 5th on that...

No seriously though, when I mix my base yes I do because I am playing with rather potent stuff and large quantities. When I mix from my base no I don't (I know I should) because of the dilution for one and, two I don't particularly care for the loss of dexterity with gloves on. Should I get some on myself the sink is seconds away.

I always use the blue surgical gloves when mixing anything over 50mg and always dilute it immediatly down to 36mg, from there I do not use gloves.

BTW I got some Mary Jane flavoring in from the perfumers apprentice, since I have never used the original substance I took it to my neighbor who has. He said it smelled great, so I mixed him up a batch of 10ml and he is testing it for me. He said he liked it better than any other juice he has tried. Me personally, it is not my flavor of choice. Very spicy pungent aroma. So that is my review of the MJ.

I am still pretty much a newbie and last night was my first attempt of mixing my own. I tried out the Green Apple flavor last night. HOLY COW! is all I can say. I love it! Taste just like a green Jolly Rancher :D Will let you know what I think of the others when I get a chance to try them out. I am going to try the Jamaican Rum tonight

What percentage did you use to make your apple ejuice?
I used 20% for the green apple and it tasted perfumy instead of like a jolly rancher.

Would someone please translate this into Dan's calculator numbers? I don't get it. I use 50mg uncut in the calc, finish 24mg, 20% flavor, 30VG and make 3ml if all that helps. I'm using PA flavors.

Oh, does anyone have a recipe for Blueberry Cheesecake? On the calc recipes I have seen Carmel Pecan contain 70% cheesecake and Apple pie have only 35% and the rest Apple. What's the thinking in those cases?

Light flavor, lots of smoke, mild hit. Add a part (just one) of Bavarian Creme for Blackberries and cream! Very yummy!
