hi all

how to change the tank? i cant seem to disassemble the parts. can anyone show me some links or tutorial maybe? pictures or video whatever that may help

thanks

I'm assuming you are talking about the Cobra tank. I don't have one so I'm just assuming it's like others. Unscrew the 2 or 3 kurly screws on the center post then you should be able to unscrew the top plate if it's screwed on. It may just pull off. Again, I'm just guessing here since I haven't seen one.

Don't have it setup to take pics, but will give this a try via words only. If pics are needed, then when time permits, will take some shots.

1. Take top cap off Cobra. It is held by two o-rings only. May require a gentle twisting to get it to come off.
2. No need to disassemble the center pin or take out any of the screws to remove the tank unless you want it out of the way.
3. Gently pull the glass tank up and off the titanium body. The glass is held by two o-rings as well, which you can clearly see throught the tank.

What I found helped was to get the tank wet prior to removal. Easiest after washing out the tank, etc.

Put the Cobra on a pv that has a good connection that you can use to leverage the tank off. You won't want to be twisting from the pv, but the extension to pull straight up/down against will help.

What I did was to gently pry the tank up with my fingernail (soft leverage) from the base just above the titanium bottom cap. Just do a little bit of up pressure as you work around the base, as you don't want to have the glass tank lean too far in any one direction putting undue force on the glass.

Then I just wrapped by hand around the glass, put a few fingers under the glass tank hooking my nails under the glass like a car pully remover, and slowly worked it up.

Once you clear the bottom o-ring, it will be a lot easier to pull the tank up and over the top o-ring. As you pull, a little twisting helps. Be careful not to have the tank pop sideways or smash into the center pin as you clear the top. If you are worried about that, then removal of the center pin/post could help.

The titanium body is all one piece. It won't come apart while you do this. To replace the tank, advise some lubrication -- water, pv/vg, etc.

Hope this helps.

Nice step-by-step :)

There are two little things I can add that I, personally, find to work well for me. YMMV, of course. I grip the glass tank and press down on the center post (or the wick plate if the post is removed). Be careful not to push it out of your hand, you need a good grip on the glass so this doesn't happen. Once it starts moving, it'll start to go easier
The other tip is to give the o-rings a light coating of vaseline or silicone grease, it will come apart much easier the next time if you do this. You could always use juice or PG/VG, but I find these tend to dry the o-rings out over time, the vaseline works wonders for me and the tank is still easy to remove a couple of weeks later after several refills. It only takes a very light coating, just wipe off any excess with your finger and you're good to go

This is where those silicone/rubber hot pads come in handy. Grip that glass.

Amen to that, it definitely helps

Looks like they have you covered pretty well. They know more about the Cobra then I do

Aw, just give it time. You'll get to be an expert soon enough (besides, we're just bluffing, answering the easier questions so it looks like we know what we're talking about)

Hopefully at some point I will find the time to actually learn how to use my Cobra. Chris is going to sandblast my Cobra tank tonight (hopefully) so that will be a step in the right direction :p

Well to expand on what Killjoy was saying, bluffing, umm..... well, see, easy..... oh damn. I forgot what I was going to say. :|

Oh yes. That's right. The easy questions. See it's like this, you fill the kettle with water, and once it reaches the boil, pour it into a cup and you have hot chocolate with marshmallows. Simple. :D

Sorry. Couldn't resist

Well crap! I've never seen one and these Cobra's sound like they are made way different than any of the genesis atties I've seen but then I'm going by clones. I should have known but at least I tried. :p

Trying is always welcomed and appreciated :p

Apparently more than I do also.

Maybe not. I have never worked with the Cobra or any other RBA yet. I didnt even watched while Chris setup the one we had in October. I've seen them in person and several, but that is really where my knowledge ends.

In other words you have no knowledge.

These things are a PITA so I'm guessing Chris will be making your setups. :p

I'm trying my first air stone wick as we speak. If the wicks were already pre-made these would be a snap. Now if I could just get it to wick fast enough.
