I've read the OP and still don't comprehend how we are supposed to answer this riddle.

Is the answer format going to be something like "Mr. Kelly is a horsefly" or "Mr. Kelly is a compulsive gambler".

Or is the answer going to be a "Mr. Kelly likes [insert something here] and dislikes [insert something here]"???? Are the likes and dislikes just clues to whatever/whoever he is, or is the correct "like" and "dislike" going to be the answer?

Dear moorea,

I must admit that I am confused about the riddle, but I have had a hard time trying to figure out how to ask for clarification without giving away the first part of the equation--or maybe it's the answer: that's what I don't know.

Solving a riddle is answering a question. What makes it a riddle is often figuring out what the question actually is. In this case I was assuming that the question was of underlying motivation, but the pages and pages of hits I got upon googling all gave the answer as mere commonality. I did not email a guess because I could not figure out why he likes the things he likes, but every solution I found on the web said the answer to the riddle was merely what he likes about them.

So my question is: is the riddle asking why he likes mummies as in what is it that he likes about them, or why he likes what it is he likes about them? It is very hard to ask this question without giving away (at least part of) the answer, but I'm hoping you'll understand since you had a very similar problem trying to describe the contest without revealing the riddle...

:)

Correct or incorrect likes or dislikes posted here on the thread are only to be entered into the random drawing (you can post up to three a day and you have one entry as of now for the random drawing.) They will help you figure out the answer to the riddle.

So your post stating "Mr. Kelly likes winners but dislikes success?" was one entry into the random drawing.

However as pwyll pointed out, he likes both winners and success, but does not like failures.

The answer to the riddle however will be telling me why does Mr Kelly Like what he likes and Dislike what he dislikes. You will not figure out the answer just from the original post:

Mr. Kelly is eccentric and bizarre but he is not unusual!
He likes football but dislikes sports!

That is the start of the riddle. In order to figure out why mister kelly likes something and why he does not, you must read my answers throughout this entire thread and see what things Mr Kelly likes, what do they have in common and what things Mr Kelly dislikes, what do they have in common... What they have in common is the answer!

Something like that.

The "Mr Kelly likes riddles but dislikes questions" posts are both clues and guesses. If you know why he likes what he likes and dislikes what he dislikes then you will be able to properly formulate a like/dislike statement. Every correct like/dislike pair is a clue to the answer, and every incorrect pair is a clue in that it tells you that whatever you thought was the reason isn't. And if you just have no idea, try to see what his likes have in common and how his dislikes differ from them. There have been many correct like/dislike pairs, they are all entries into the random draw--but the answer to the riddle should be sent to the email address in the OP.

It may help to know that Mr Kelly likes to be correct, but dislikes being right ;)
