Just got a Bulldog from OKC vapes. I am very happy.

Vertical coil (2.5 Ohms) using the 3/32 drill bit technique, cotton wick. Took a little needle file and opened the vent hole a tiny bit and it's perfect for me.

I love everyone's pictures. I'm still struggling with this thing. I have 34g Nichrome and 3 coils put me at 1.9 or 2.0ohms. I was successful twice. I haven't been trying that often because after work it can easily frustrate me. I practice on the weekends :)
Saturday is almost here and I'm looking forward to try the vertical coil.

Just checked that site out, those prices are great. Does he stay well stocked? If so that'll be my goto for wire.

You shouldn't have any problems with stocking
The free shipping is what makes it such a good deal

Heres a link for NiChrome80 from another company
PnJ Resources, LLC : Nichrome 80

$3.50 for 10ft
But the shipping is $6.00 minimum
Making more on shipping than on the wire
Which is typical

So I'm a total noob who started off with cartos and I'm getting my first tank in the mail next week. Why are you doing a vertical coil vs a horizontal coil? Is it because it gives you more room, and is easier to set up? Or is the performance better?

Without going into a lecture on thermodynamics and airflow... With the wick higher up the air coming in from the vent hole is blowing directly on the coil cooling it and improving vaporization of the liquid. It's also easy to set up. Also you can pre-burn the coil without the wick in place to remove the flash that burns off of wire the first time it heats thus keeping that new coil taste to a minimum.

This is fantastic, I dont care you actually did this first, but i found your post and I thank you very very much, I suppose this same method could be used with a stainless steel wick too. Im waiting for some to come in and I will give it a try. I did this for the first time and its hitting great with a cotton wick, again Thanks

So glad to see that folks are digging this method, and that this thread has taken on a life of its own. I'm not using the Phoenix much these days but I still use the Chalice once in a while. Mostly, I've been very satisfied with two VV Reo Grands sporting ERA's. I haven't managed a vertical coil in the ERA, but the principle is the same setting it up as a horizontal coil, though admittedly I've been a bit lazy at times and have simply wrapped my coil around the wick without much other prep. I have found that when I take the time and actually wrap the coil around the bit I get more consistant results.
