I'm about to place my first order for DIY & going to order my nicotine base from Nude Nicotine but don't know if I should order my base in VG or PG? I'm a max VG liquid fan on my squonkers but started to use a tank when I travel during the day. Does it make sense to order my nicotine base in PG to make it easier to mix? I plan on keeping my juices in the 80/20 range or Max VG regardless of a tank or dripper.

If your going for max VG then VG nic is your only option, I buy all mine in VG.

As far as ease of mixing, there won't be much difference. I give mine a hot water bath after mixing which thins it down enough to mix easily.

I've read both that VG and PG are better for long term storage but with my very basic understanding of how/why nic degrades, VG to me makes the best sense for that as well.

I go with pg nic myself when your using 100mg nic you can still easily mix 80% vg. Pg has a longer self life and doesn't separate like vg. But also make sure to get 100mg nic it's def your best bang for buck.

Bad advice. The OP states 80/20 or max VG. Can't do Max VG with PG NIC.

I mix max VG too and my first order I got 50/50 36mg nic. Bad idea. Go for the VG nic and 100mg/ml. Get some large gauge luer lock syringes to make it easier to draw it up out of the bottle though. It's pretty thick. Don't ever heat your nic base to thin it. Heat degrades the nic. Remember most of your flavors are going to be in PG too, so your "max VG" percentage will depend on how much flavoring you put in it.

The one disadvantage to VG nic... it's probably not a good idea to assume it is well mixed when you get it. And VG is very difficult shake up. For that reason I personally get 50/50 100mg nic. Since I vape 3 or 6mg or less, that is 3% extra PG at most, and with my usual 3mg it is only 1.5% additional PG. I too like max VG.

Most flavors are PG based. The recipes I use are typically 20-30% flavoring so in my case "max VG" is 69-79%. IOW a lot of this depends on your nic strength and flavoring strength.

There is a suggestion above to get alcohol based flavors and evaporate it off. I think that is quite limiting since most flavorings I use (mainly TFA) are PG based. I also question how long it would take to breathe off a heavy dose of alcohol. If you pour some gin or vodka into whatever container you use to breathe your mix, how long does that take to evaporate? Would it evaporate as fast mixed into mostly VG??? Just points for your own research. I don't know the answers.
