Wondering what you all think about using the smok Groove - I have the original, the black plastic one. I wasn't around when the recall was happening so I couldn't ask this then but I know it was for the plastic and metal ones. In doing some research here, it seems that most feel that recalling the plastic was more of a CYA move by smok. Also, returning it is not an option since I bought it from the classifieds here.

I know that some are still using theirs, and mine hasn't given me any problems but not sure. Part of me wants to trash it to be safe, but the other part of me laments not having it. Right now, it's totally discharged and not in use.

Thanks!

Like Busardo said I wish I could smoosh the mvp and groove together.

The groove's menu system is a lot better. Up for ohms, down for battery life, hold both buttons to switch between vv and vw, and no stupid puff counter, plus the automatic shut off is longer. When I hit the mvp I have to re push the button down to get a long enough hit.

I wish they made a box mod with a huge battery that has the same display as the dna20 without the hefty price tag. A solid metal box with an evic display would be fine.

If the screws are actually touching the battery pack it's more than CYA. It's a bad design. I think you can just remove those screws.

I'm assuming these screws are in the upper corners on the back? I see where screws would be but it has a felt/rubber coating over them that I'd have to remove to get to the screws. Are these the ones?

Don't quote me but I'm almost certain the screws in the plastic groove pose no problem, they're shorter or something and won't hit the battery. Smok said the plastic has missing battery protection. I use mine all the time still after like 3 months with no problem. I charge it with the vent holes upward at least if I'm not near it and away from anything in case it were to vent, not that that's a guarantee, but it helps. Can get a battery charging bag.

Mine has protection when I try a short coil, etc, normal stuff seems fine, but I wouldn't go trying a quad coil or maybe even a dual coil on it in case it isn't built correctly which the protection might not handle.

You can get an MVp version one for 45 free shippign from fastech or a version 2 for $55. Not as much battery life as groove, but still an innexpensive and simple usb-charged VV (or VW with ohm meter also if Version 2) MOD.

So to the OP, I'm using the Groove as my main device. I also am using the plastic version, and I've had to adjust some things.

First - the collar holding the screw in connector broke, so re-glued into place. Mildly successful, as it no longer rotates, but still has some wiggle room.
Second - From a drop, the main screws no longer hold it together, so I have it tastefully duck taped together ;-)
Third, since this is in and out of my pocket all the time, about once a week I take it apart, and ensure the screens to the vents are lint free on both sides.

I love this thing, and now will look for mods with a preinstalled battery - I love that I don't have to carry around a second set of batteries - more liberating than I thought it was going to be. The charge is supposed to last 4ish days, but since it's my main device, I charge at the end of every second day. Still a heavy vaper, so that's saying a ton. I have some mild annoyances with the ease of the buttons being pressed in my pocket, but some minor precautions that I'm still vaping at the right voltage and ohm rating, and I would recommend it!

Happy vaping with it - It will be a sad day when my battery discharges completely ;-)

I literally just bought a metal one (groove 2). Vendor said nothing, seemed great for 48 hours i started searching the web to see why they weren't more widely known/used/loved and then found out about this recall...

I guess i should just get back in touch with the vendor...?

Sorry for dragging another old thread up.

I think the recall was only on the first one, not the groove 2. How do you like it overall? Post some pics of it if you can!

I honestly love it so far, don't get me wrong its basically a MVP with longer battery life and a few more watts but all the little things seem to work for me. It has a bit of weight to it which i like but its not a brick, it fits snug in the hand and the fire button is the perfect finger of thumb away. When your vaping it if u need to you can still glance at the screen. The menus are intuitive and no need to cycle round and round on them. Every topper I've tried works well and fits snugly enough etc etc

Anyways thank you for replying i can sleep again now :)

No problem. I remember looking at it before and liking the looks of it and wondering why I hadn't seen or heard much about it. I especially like the huge battery. It must last forever!

Yeah, it's a product that shot itself in the foot. The problem that triggered the recall was case screws that were too long and could puncture the internal battery. It was an easy correction - shorter screws - but the needed recall did damage to the product reputation and there you go. The corrected version just never gained much ground in the market after that.
